A 16-time convicted violent felon is back behind bars after prosecutors said he launched a brutal, unprovoked hammer attack on a senior citizen in Auburn Gresham this summer. Prosecutors say Frank Barker, 58, of South Holland, ambushed a 69-year-old man who was unloading groceries outside his home in the 8300 block of South Green Street around 1:48 p.m. on August 20.
Sixteen time convicted?
A man who once served a lengthy prison sentence for attempted murder is back in court, this time facing full-blown first-degree murder charges tied to a July 2023 murder in Back of the Yards. Prosecutors say 40-year-old Max Hernandez was the getaway driver for two gunmen who killed 24-year-old Leonardo Martinez and critically injured his 25-year-old brother on July 4, 2023. Hernandez was arrested recently at the Pinckneyville Correctional Center, where he was being paroled on a separate gun case filed just weeks after the Independence Day slaying.

A West Side man who lured four men to his home and robbed them while he was supposed to be confined by an ankle monitor for a pending machine gun possession case has been sentenced to 15 years in prison. Christopher Anderson, 22, admitted in court that he used Instagram to set up meetings with the victims, who came to his home in the 400 block of South Laramie last winter.
Committing crimes while on an ankle monitor?
- On September 14, deputies stopped a man in River North for driving with an expired registration. They ended up arresting the driver, 40-year-old Terrell Washington, who served a 16-year sentence for murder in 2004. Why? Because, according to the sheriff’s office, he had a loaded handgun in the car. Judge Antara Rivera ordered him detained.
A murderer with a gun? How does that happen? And stopped for an expired tag? That's about to go by the wayside if the Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability (CCPSA) gets their way by outlawing traffic stops for compliance violations - violations that will get you suspended for three days if the Inspection Division catches you dirty.
It's almost like criminals have no fear of the justice system....possibly because there aren't (and haven't) been any significant consequences for years.

A big part of the problem in Illinois are the policies of the Department of Corrections and their time off for good behavior policies.
During Mayor Shortshanks tenure he refused to give us a contract. Ticket activity was pretty much non existent. People would commit moving violations right in front of us, especially after word spreads on social media ( still in its infancy, "MySpace? "anyone? )that we weren't writing tickets. I had no problem with it. Neither should you.
Whatever happened to the three strikes law? On the third conviction for a violent crime you go away for life. Had one guy I had arrested I recall got that. As for the dimwit robbing people in his own home while wearing the ankle monitor he needs to be put away for good for his own safety.
