Took a juvy to cook county hospital for a clearance while working the wagon many years agoand the triage nurse insisted that the cuffs be removed so she could take the kid’s blood pressure. Immediately after my partner removed 1 cuff, the kid grabbed the phone from her desk and smashed her across her face with it. As she writhed on the floor, I asked her “ do you want me to put the cuffs back on him now?”. After that, I never removed handcuffs from another arrestee or mental in the hospital ever again. Rest in peace officer.
I wonder if the attending doctor ordered the officers to remove the handcuffs.

Had an arrest with a big, strong guy that took 5 cops to get him under control. Since force was used the stupidvisor said take him to the hospital to be checked out. Two cops took him to the ER where the charge nurse said “ take off the cuffs”. Well the the answer was no. She became offended, demanded. The answer was no. Another supervisor showed up and said NO. She demanded. The answer again was NO. Highly offended she got ahold of a hospital manager who realized that uncuffing a big, violent man in the ER probably wasn’t a good idea and agreed with NO. Nurse was pissed but there was no reason to be there in the first place if the stupidvisor#1 didn’t have his head up his ass. Released with no medical issues and to the lockup. Never remove the cuffs, ask the hospital if they are going to refuse treatment, notify zone, notify WC, include refusal in every report with the name of the person who refused treatment and let a ranking someone make the call on what to do.

Offender/shooter gets arrested this morning for robbing a convenience store. Offender/shooter and another offender beat the a little old lady working. You see he has a gun on surveillance footage but no gun recovered on scene.

May 13th, 1990. A 25th District wagon crew, Greg Hauser and Ray Kilroy were handling a domestic disturbance. The suspect gained control over one of the officers firearm and shot and killed both. There is no thing as a routine call.
Again with the department, bad policy. The hospital was doing x-rays when the incident happened. I have never even seen a supervisor check on anyone sitting on a prisoner.
My heart goes out to the families of the officers. You are all in our prayers. .

I worked 024 lockup and the tact team dropped a guy on us? When we searched him we found the loaded pistol in his crack! When I walked it out to theTact office the four young officers on the arrest report refused to do the inventory or add the charges on the arrest. I said fine, here’s your doorway out of trouble and walked out the door to the desk Sgt. and watch Lieutenant. And dropped it on the desk. At which time the LT. had a meltdown and ordered the tact Sgt. to come in to station and ordered him to pull CR# on his team!

Yea ok. These fuckers know the system. The minute they hit the lockup they claim they need their meds, have chest pains, or feel suicidal. You know it’s bullshit, they haven’t taken their meds for months. They will to anything not to stay in a cell even if it’s for an hour or two. Here’s the thing. Unless things have changed since I retired the CC jail will not accept a prisoner who has not been medically cleared after a health complaint and has enough meds for 24-48 hours. And finally there’s always going to be that one, that if you deny medical care and they die, guess who’s fucked? Yup, look in the mirror.
I always told arrestees that if they didn’t feel good we were bringing them to Cermak Hospital in Cook County Jail. We were also going to transfer custody to the Cook County Department of Corrections. It wasn’t true but a lot of them miraculously recovered when I told them that.

That's exactly how it should be. No officer should be bringing a violent criminal , who's already violated E.M. parole, etc, to a community hospital with the general public. They should all legit be going to Cermak. It's almost always a delay tactic and an opportunity to escape.

No arrestee entered my car or wagon without me or my partner searching him , regardless what the arresting officer said
Every time you take control of a prisoner that you personally have not searched You’d better search him/ her
Unfortunately the one time you don't and the prisoner dies for some reason because medical attention was withheld, that's your ass! No boss or anyone else wants to be in that trickbag. I do agree many of the arrestees in lockup know the game and will play it though.
I remember that incident in 024, a reminder to make sure your prisoner was searched completely. Thankfully nobody got hurt. You tried to do the right thing but they didn’t want to listen . Shame on anyone on this job not listening to experience.
Agian the question to ask who searched the offender on scene???? Somebody was being lazy....this shouldnt have happen. When officers take short cuts or dont take due care of what they are doing and this what happens with lazy officers. You always search the prisoner and everywhere on the body. It was a glock 29 10 mm that is not an easy gun to hide on their body. And if it was hidden in the groin area or in the cheeks how the hell did he walk?? and not give away that there is something wrong? What did the arresting officer do when they placed the offender into custody?
