A Chicago alderman, incensed by the upcoming closure of a Walgreens store amid safety concerns, stated that the corporate retailer should be charged with "first-degree corporate abandonment."
Ald. William Hall, along with several community members, held a news conference Monday to voice their anger over the company's decision to close the location in Chicago’s 6th Ward in the Chatham neighborhood.
"Walgreens should be charged with first-degree corporate abandonment," Hall said. "It should be a crime, the way they're treating our elders. It should be a crime, the way they're treating our families."
Not a word or a mention about how his constituents are treating Walgreens though?
And is this one running for mayor or something?
Ald. Raymond Lopez, a Democrat, said he understands the community's frustration but questioned the timing of the outrage.
"Where was that anger when the stores in our communities were under years and years of assault by criminals allowed to shoplift, vandalize, and destroy neighborhood institutions?" Lopez asked in a statement to Fox News Digital. "Many leaders say it is simply an insurance matter. They are wrong. There are real-world consequences for crime running rampant. This closure is the perfect example of that effect."

Here’s a suggestion, since people like this Aldermen is probably into the whole “supporting Black owned businesses:” let the community find themselves a Black pharmacist willing to open a business in the area (à la old fashioned Pharmacy) and get it up and running. It’ll never happen because nobody goes into business hoping to lose money. Businesses are loyal to communities that don’t rob them blind.

I was reading comments in a Chatham FB pagr and even the so called black middle class residents of Chatham recognize the thefts were out of control. The problem is they still voted for Johnson, Preckwinkle and Pritzker.
The people of Chatham need to take a moment to reflect. If you steal and make it unprofitable to do business, the business will close and leave to a place that is profitable. Businesses exist to make a profit, not to provide criminals with the contents of their stores. Wake up and smell the coffee.
Walgreens closing in certain areas of the city, Spirit Airlines now defunct, Frontier Airlines now will double the prices of their tickets, 6 Flags Great America is now enforcing new policies aimed at keeping anyone under 18 in check, Carnival Cruises doing the same with new policies and McDonald’s working towards making their restaurants drive-thru only. I wonder what caused all of these changes? I wonder what the common denominator in all of this is. Strange.
Then this Moran alderman suggested that a Target store or another retailer move into this building. What a dumb shit. Not one word from a community member addressing the real issues of the crime ridden urban thugs that plague so many areas of our once proud to say come to Chicago and enjoy a world class visit.

Outposts, in the Old West were constantly under attacks from natives and range bandits. If it was deemed necessary that an outpost was in a strategic location and was needed to remain operational, the government would station soldiers inside of the outpost. This Walgreens is one of these outposts. Constantly besieged by natives and banditry. The remedies could be to keep the outpost open as a drive up. Pick up for pharmaceutical business only. Maybe as a pick up location for online shopping. Unfortunately, the people working there will have to leave or enter the store eventually leading hostile natives and bandits to wait outside to victimize them. This nullifies its usefulness as a viable business capable of making a profit. Trump offered to put soldiers in the city to maintain safety but was rejected from local politicians including the fool alderman listed, I'm sure. The Old West outposts were abandoned, much like this Walgreens leaving them to the bandits and as footnotes in history. Largely forgotten by civilization...

I can’t help but ask—if major chains like Walgreens, Walmart, Target, and CVS are leaving some Chicago neighborhoods citing theft and safety concerns, why the Asian, Indian and Arab merchants seem to be immune to the theft/violent environmental pressures that are running off the big chain outlets ?
For all those retailers that have left, there appears to be no shortage of wig/weave shops, liquor stores, Dollar stores, etc., waiting in line to take their place.

Years ago I worked in 021 on days for about a minute. Got a shoplifter at the Walgreens on 34 and King Drive. They wanted a fool locked up for eating a candy bar without paying for it while he walked through the store. He insisted he would pay for it. He had a pocket full of cash, but the manager insisted on signing , stating that he had done this numerous times prior. While I talked to security, another guard came into the office with another fool in cuffs, this one shoplifting. I called for the wagon. About five minutes later the first guard came back with another shoplifter. And another, same shit. Three total. While we were loading the idiots into the wagon, the other guard walked up with someone else in cuffs for theft. I asked the dispatcher to send another car since I had three already and they were loaded and ready to go. This transpired in about the forty minutes that I was on scene. I couldn't help but think my life had become a fucking Marx Brothers movie...

Most stores in the hood go under because of thefts and other crimes, but politicians blame the store not the criminal. Stores are in business to make money not to continuously loose money. Chas. Walgreen must be rolling over in his grave. I remember a bitter custody battle the family was involved in because a baby momma was buying H on the West Side. Her plate read "Walgrnn" until she was found dead in a West Side crack house. The family was genuinely compassionate and I'm sure it pains them to watch their family legacy disintegrate.
