It Wasn't Even That Warm
This doesn't bode well for the summer:
Twenty-three people were shot across Chicago this weekend, four of them fatally, according to preliminary information released by the Chicago Police Department. The weekend total marked an increase from the same weekend last year, when 20 people were shot.
Saturday was particularly violent, with 16 people shot, making it the city’s highest single-day total of shooting victims so far this year, according to HeyJackass.com, which independently compiles and analyzes Chicago crime data. Sunday was much calmer, though, with only one shooting reported.
You know that feeling you get when everything just seems a bit off? A combination of factors that triggers a sense of caution? We've been feeling that since the start of the year.
It feels like The Summer of the Assholes is upon us.

The hilarious part is local Chicago TV news will report 3 people shot in Gary Indiana, 1 person found dead in LaSalle Illinois or some other crime at some faraway location but THEY WON'T MENTION ANYTHING THAT HAPPENED IN CHICAGO. DURING THE WEEKEND OR ANY OTHER TIME. NO ONE WOULD KNOW ABOUT IT IF IT WASN'T FOR ONLINE INDEPENDENT REPORTING LIKE THIS.
