A group of Illinois lawmakers is ending their effort to pass legislation that would have prohibited state and local police agencies from using facial recognition to develop leads in criminal investigations.
The Illinois Biometric Surveillance Act, pushed by Rep. Kelly Cassidy, who represents most of Rogers Park and Edgewater in Springfield, picked up three co-sponsors along the way. But the lawmakers failed to gather enough support among their colleagues as news reports highlighted the technology’s role in solving difficult, random violent crimes.
Now, Capitol News Illinois reports that Cassidy is “not looking to move the measure this legislative session” because they are “wary of debates happening in the wake of major news events, which can emphasize the technology’s role in investigations over its risks, including misidentification of individuals and expanded surveillance.”
And remember, they couldn't cite a single instance of anyone being imprisoned for mis-identification in the entire country. There was a single instance in Detroit, years ago, where a man was detained temporarily after what was essentially a beta-test version of facial recognition, but he wasn't tried or convicted and even the ACLU (All Criminals Love Us) doesn't bring it up when asked.
Stop voting for people who love criminals. That blue haired screeching Karen represents the neighborhood where Sheridan Gorman was executed and Facial Recognition led to the arrest of the ILLEGAL ALIEN killer.

I work at the Capitol in a position that requires me to path attention to what happens both in committee and on the floor. I can assure you Cassidy is as unhinged and incompetent as you can possibly imagine. Every other bill she brings forward is designed to push Illinois into deeper debt and further left.

Mr Li was driving his sister’s Xiaomi SU7 Max on Wednesday (18 Jun) when the car began issuing continuous voice alerts saying “Please focus on driving”. The dashboard simultaneously displayed on-screen messages warning him to “Please focus on driving, drive safely”.
Video footage shows Mr Li repeatedly widening his eyes in an attempt to stop the alerts. He tried adjusting his driving position multiple times, but the warnings persisted throughout his journey.

If you've flown commercially or gone through US customs you've used facial recognition. I have GLOBAL ENTRY and that combined with facial recognition allowed me to clear customs at the port of Miami after a cruise in 30 seconds. How will they possibly make the case that only those sought by law enforcement can't be subjected to this tech?

I’m 66 years old and have lived in Chicago my entire life. I’ve spent the last 6 winters in Florida. People that I have met from other states have asked about the number of shootings in Chicago. I tell them that if you live here as long as I have you inevitably will KNOW someone or someone’s family member that has been shot in Chicago. That is the pathetic & sad truth.
If facial recognition can help lead to the capture of ANY shooters it’s a great thing. Lead a clean life, you won’t be giving up liberty.

Hate to say it, but I’m thinking the same way as the purple haired loons on this one, although for a different reason. They oppose it because they want to help criminals go free. What this is actually doing is giving the government another tool that WILL be used eventually to help enslave all of us. Government has its tentacles wrapped around us enough already, they need to be shackled instead of the people.

Holy crap, that is weird as hell. Especially the part about being forced into the car with a kid in a baby seat. Glad the officer was not seriously hurt. Also unfortunately glad, in this day and age, that she didn't shoot any of the people. In the real law, she'd be justified to shoot someone to stop being kidnapped and possibly sexually violated.
