The mayor must have noticed CPD is suddenly short manpower again, this time by five injured Officers:
Mayor Brandon Johnson decried an early Sunday morning ‘unauthorized large gathering’ apparently involving teens that ended with a car veering into five Chicago police officers, injuring them, as they were dispersing the crowd on the Near West Side.
Police have not announced any charges Monday against the driver, 18, who was arrested.
“Unauthorized large gatherings can quickly become dangerous, and early this morning, after curfew hours, we saw that firsthand,” the mayor posted on X Sunday night.
And where does Conehead think the responsibility lies?
- Johnson said the people who participated in violent behavior should be held accountable, but many people, including city leaders and community members, have a responsibility to look out for young people.
Um....the government isn't a parent moron. Government isn't supposed to "look out for" people (or folks) breaking the law - they're supposed to look out for everyone else attempting to peacefully and peaceably go about their lives.
Who the City should be looking out for are their employees i.e. the Officers attempting to enforce the Ordinances and Laws passed by the elected representatives. That means maintaining adequate manpower numbers and maintaining equipment required to do their jobs.
You don't fund a fire department and give them a bucket with a hole in it (though Chicago is headed that way.) You are supposed to give them a working water system, hydrants, attachments, trucks and pumps so that they can save lives and property.
Same with the police. You don't give them a list of Laws that everyone is supposed to abide by, and then underfund / defund them, disband units that could have responded effectively, hide equipment that used to work (gas teams, LRAD, etc) and take away all the options to defend themselves. Politicians doing that would rightfully be called idiots, morons, progressives and assholes.

The institutional knowledge is gone. Now we have different frat or sorority leaders that shouldn’t be crossing guards. It’s not going to get any better.
The mayor Johnson is going to be a one term mayor. I can’t see him getting re-elected. The Superintendent will be gone too. I can’t only hope most of the Gold Stars either leave or get demoted. Then Chicago might have a chance.

that's funny, the gov-mint was never around doing things for me or giving me things when I was growing up, we had part time jobs to buy the things we play any sports we wanted, and they were not those gov-mint hand out jobs where you just stand around and do nothing. We did not destroy the park equipment and the complain that it was racist that it "fell into disrepair". When the police told us to move on from where we hanging around we moved, no questions asked, no throwing bottles and bricks at them
I think $50,000.00 art grants for beautifying CTA stations would go a long way to solving this issue.
At this point Chicago is past the turning-point. It's just another Detroit or Oakland just with greasy deep-dish pizza, really bad sports teams and marijuana dispensaries on every block. The real question is can we save the surrounding suburbs at this point? I heard the black teen takeovers and drag-racer caravans are now popping up in Naperville, Rosemont and Oak Park. I just saw laundry detergent and alcohol locked up behind plexiglass at a CVS in Schaumburg. Wowie!

So the city says they should have 13,500 officers. They are not close, I work in the city & have driven for miles within Shitcago & I can go for blocks & blocks & never see a police car. So 5 officers hurt over the weekend, officers shot & killed, officers died LOD. Some officers died at home or whatever. As a faithful reader I'm reminded that in an SCC article there will be no police hiring or academy training until Fall. At what point does the City of Shitcago run out of officers. I haven't even started talking about retirements officers it's not gonna be good for John Q. Public, but you guys in blue please protect yourself & each other. Wait for backup keep your eyes open but facing forward F the public protect yourselves those of us who are not the police but have some street smarts never ever go to the city W/O a Glock .40cal & 2 magazines.
