CTU Burning Bridges
The CTU is getting bad publicity nationwide lately:
The Chicago Teachers Union’s cupidity in enriching itself, and the dismal results of Chicago’s public schools, have drained the public’s reservoir of goodwill. Among the reasons for the CTU’s downfall is a school named for someone who, as a slave, taught himself to read — a skill poorly imparted by Chicago teachers, when they teach.
The indispensable Illinois Policy Institute says the Frederick Douglass Academy, whose 47 classrooms were built to accommodate 1,008 students, has 27. But the CTU has seen to it that it has 28 full-time staff. So, in the 2023-2024 school year, Douglass spent $93,000 per pupil. But Douglass is not entirely an outlier. At more than 50 Chicago schools, the percent of students who achieve math proficiency is 0. The 20 lowest-enrollment schools, spending $33,500 per student, have an 11 percent average reading proficiency. Students graduate unprepared for flourishing; the CTU thrives. The adjective “wicked” should be used sparingly in political discourse, but it fits the CTU’s ongoing child abuse.
This leaves aside the actual child sexual abuse running rampant in the CPS system.
The column also cites the Davis Gates hypocrisy of not educating her own child at CPS and the chronic absenteeism of almost half of the teachers.
We're still of the opinion that things haven't yet gotten bad enough for voters to make this a top issue though.

Ridiculous. No wonder why Chicago is going broke.
Western Springs voter here....
We need to look at tuffer gun laws and creating more ..."Gun Free Zones"...
The reason we have these problems is that the voting public has no idea what’s going on with CPS & Chicago. They don’t read, the stories are out there. Everybody should be enraged.
Yeah, I blame the teachers and CTU for dumb kids. But I also blame the PARENT(S). If you're a parent and don't have your foot up your kid's ass to get them to school, monitor their homework and grades, etc. then a fairly substantial amount of the blame goes to them too.
Keep in mind that CTU doesn’t train or certify teachers. It’s a UNION that bargains on behalf of its members.
Though CTU is justifiably reviled, responsibility for the abysmal results rests with CPS.
Here’s the solution.
Emergency declared.
Every CPS employee told not to go to work.
Every child reassigned to a different school if their school is shitty or under capacity.
Only teachers that have not abused the medical, passed drug test, live in Chicago, and mandatorily send their children to CPS Will have a job.
What a complete disgrace!
CTU actually enslaving poor kids to poverty and underachievement for CTU life because of there greed.
Where is the shame?
Where is the outrage?
Where are the protests?
Elected officials and CTU members deserve to be fired.
Socialism seeks to control the youth and its in our faces now
Mayor Conehead was never good with numbers.
Now, kees me you fiil!!!!
Garbage in, garbage out.
It will never be an issue. Tipping point has passed. Most new chicagoans are generally lower IQ migrants who view the school as a baby sitter and feeding station. High earning newcomers aren’t really into the whole child rearing thing……Normie families don’t choose Chicago.
If you think CTU doesn't use its political muscle to impact decisions like closing empty schools AND keeping useless teachers in place you are kidding yourself. Who has changed the CPS board over the last couple of years? BJ. Who controls BJ...CTU!! Wake up
whatever,,, just keep let me being able to buy my weed and get my food stamps and my free medical care and my free housing and I just keep voting democRATic,, that's all that matter to me and my 8 kids
When, not if, will taxpaying WORKERS revolt at how these policy decisions and politicians keep raising the taxes here? When, not if, will it be time to say enough is enough? Close these schools, lay off all these excess workers, demand accountability and CHANGE from throwing more and more money literally out those school windows! It’s not now NOR ever has been “about the children”.
It's never gonna change. There are a hardcore 40% who will vote for this every time. Of the other 60% all it takes is 11% to put a Conehead in office. I'm a 19th warder. A lot of good, decent people here who are so conditioned to vote for the status quo it will never be changed. That's how a STIFF like Matt O'Shea keeps winning.
I give teachers some leeway. They’re trying to teach kids who are like feral cats.
What’s weird is I know more cops who send their kids to CPS schools than cops who don’t, so a lot of this shit talking is really for nothing. Right Mannion? You make $300,000 a year, but can’t spend that money on tuition? I’ve been a cop for the better part of two decades, I’m a third-generation Chicago cop, and I went through the private Catholic school system myself. I can say with total confidence that it’s a case by case thing. The reality is, a lot of people are spending a hell of a lot of money on tuition because they’ve convinced themselves that private school automatically means a better outcome. It doesn’t. You know it, too.
I’ve also seen firsthand that so many people who work for the city are part of families where generation after generation does the same thing and they rely on this socialist system called municipal employment. That’s been true forever, with the exception of the “be the change” Hispanic crowd I see coming up today. But at the end of the day, who cares where a kid goes to school if they aren’t eventually able or willing to get out of Chicago and Illinois?
CPS can be great for one kid and terrible for another. Catholic school can be great for one kid and a complete waste of money for another. It’s case by case. Wake up.
But doesn't anyone appreciate how active they are in the Marxist community? /s
The voting public, you mean the 25% who actually do vote, everyone else should have no opinion.
Doesn’t the teachers union say that smaller classrooms lead to better learning?
Bwahahahaha
Gates lives in Indiana. To send her kids to a CPS School, she would have to pay tuition at the rate of several thousand dollars per year. Definitely not a good investment.
Mostly the grannies that raised the yutes are long gone. The yutes that were raised by the grannies turned into the reason that they were with the grannies. They don't know what the original purpose of schools were.
Rinse
Repeat
Thanks LBJ
Childless taxpayers should get an exemption on their property taxes and homeowners with kids in CPS should be assessed a higher percentage per child. After all, they get to claim their kids as dependents on their federal tax returns (if they actually work for a living).
When your charter is "to teach the children" and you no longer do that, it is time to decertify the entire operation. Diplomas and graduation mean absolutely nothing anymore. How the fuck they keep coming back and asking for more money every year is a question that needs to be asked and long overdue.
Its more like they can't get info because this City DOES NOT have any local legit media news reporting.
Nothing but a cheating lying system how many of those so-called teachers live out of the city in total violation of the law what about the principal in Mount Greenwood that just left and new principal came in firing four teachers immediately is she actually gonna do the job? is it residency what’s going on at that school great job if that’s what it is.
Hey as long as they/them can read a menu they are good to go...
Thanks to CTU, Chicago will never lack for car washers, bussers, janitorial staff, alley-pickers, etc., and their wages will still continue to struggle to keep up with inflation. Although, their job market is expanding as the number of the undocumenteds declines. Fortunately, CTU is on the job to fill the gap.
I, am a victim of CPS. My education was so bad (sniff) I had to become a cop. Where do I sign up for my repairations??
A lot dumb stooges hoping for political favors. FIFY!
Disagree... always send your kid to Loyola Academy if you are a Northsider, St. Ignatius if Central, Fenwick if a Westsider, and Mt Carmel/Brother Rice/ Mother M/Marist on the Southside.
You can always aspire to excel at "Bucket Banging 101." Best students get the good intersections. Top students get an expressway ramp.
CTU is a criminal enterprise without a doubt, even the head of the CTU as we all know Stacy is smart enough not to send her children to the indoctrination machine. The teachers have zero rules they do whatever they want violating residency, not coming to work, not teaching the children or yet they cry how much money they need for their classrooms they could easily save billions of dollars closing schools dumping some of these so-called indoctrination specialist, a.k.a. teachers get rid of them get rid of the staffs save the taxpayers
75 % genetic (parents fault. The apple don't fall too far from the tree) and 25% environment (teachers) fault. The numbers will only get worse .
To expound upon this further, I remember the night in 2016 when Trump beat Hillary and the city had to bring a bus in when we chased the BLM protestors away from 111th and Kedzie. People were stunned that Trump won, I was resigned to President Hillary. The 19th, especially from Sacramento west went heavily for Trump. A local reporter asked a couple og guys who they voted for and they answered Trump. In the next sentence they said that they would be donating to the 19th ward Dem office next, To O'Shea, who a month later walked arm in arm into the library at 110th and Kedzie and bought BLM pizza. That in a nutshell is why Chicago will never change.
Don’t we get some FED money for education? Like for every student “enrolled” (which never means actually attends) on the first day of school every year? Need a real good FEDERAL investigation of wanton and wasteful and corruptive practices needs to be done! OR RE taxes will be doubling up again soon, bet on it!
