Officers Honored

Heroism in the face of tragedy:

• Six Chicago police officers and detectives were honored Thursday for their response to a shooting at Swedish Hospital in April that killed Officer John Bartholomew and critically injured Officer Nelson Crespo.

• Police Officer Nelson Crespo has dedicated more than 20 years of his life to protecting the people of Chicago. On April 25, Nelson survived a tragic shooting and is now in the ICU, facing limited mobility in his arms and no mobility in his legs. His commitment to public service and his bravery have touched countless lives, and now he needs the support of the community he has served so faithfully.
  
  Nelson’s journey to recovery will be long and challenging. He will require extensive rehabilitation for the foreseeable future, and his home will need significant modifications to accommodate his new needs. These changes are essential to help him regain independence and comfort as he works toward healing. The financial burden of medical care, therapy, and home adjustments is overwhelming, and every contribution will make a meaningful difference.
