Twelve Chicago aldermen are calling for changes to the city’s legal settlement policy after a CWBChicago report revealed that a man who received an $8 million wrongful-conviction settlement from the city has pleaded guilty to traveling to meet a 13-year-old.
The aldermen made the request Thursday in a letter to Corporation Counsel Mary Richardson-Lowry, explicitly citing CWBChicago’s report about Francisco Nanez, a 61-year-old who served decades in prison for a murder conviction that prosecutors moved to vacate.
In their letter, the aldermen asked the Department of Law to change how approved settlements are distributed, requiring payments to be made in quarterly installments rather than lump sums. The proposal would also suspend payments to anyone arrested for a felony and void the settlement if the person is ultimately convicted.
Of course, this is another one of those "project innocence" cases where guilty people got Crooked Crimesha to refuse to re-try cases that were reversed over nonsense, made-up bullshit, lies and waiting for witnesses to die (or get paid off to recant.)
This murderer turned out to have a second career as a child molester that the City Council gave $8 million to over Crimesha's refusal to do her job.

This is called reparations. It’s also called the destruction of America. Deport every criminal to an island in Hawaii immediatly. Make it a penal colony where no one comes back and we shov it into the faces of the no death penalty people, because......viola- no death penalty needed.

The Innocence Project is a crock of shit. It’s kind of like insider trading , if you have a person like Kim Foxx that is on the fix with law firms then everyone is getting paid. That’s all it is is a money grab by attorneys that have an insider helping them fix cases.

Take every case to trial and then delay delay delay and if you lose appeal appeal and then don’t pay till someone puts a lien on city hall. And even then don’t pay. Fuck em
Interesting to note what alderman didn’t sign on to this package. The 19th Ward is home to probably the largest number of police officers and fire fighters in the City. As you can probably figure Matt O’Shea for some reason isn’t one of the sponsors.
Apparently it’s only politicly correct to back the blue by having a pancake breakfast once a year. When Anthony Beale from Roseland is more pro law enforcement than Matt O’Shea from Beverly you have to wonder. Just another sign of where the Democratic Party is in America.

Try going to court fighting these wrongful conviction lawsuits. My partner and I were named in an unlawful conviction lawsuit filed by Anthony Porter in 2000. In 1982, my partner and I investigated the murders of Marliyn Green and Jerry Hillard in Washington Park on Bud Billakin Day. Subsequent to our investigation, we obtained a murder warrant for Porter for these two murders. Porter was in fact arrested, charged, and convicted for these murders. In 1999, Northwester's Unlawful Conviction Unit was able to free Porter. In 2000 Porter filled civil rights case against us and the city. The corporation council hired outside counsel, the late Walter Jones, to represent the city in this lawsuit. Jones admitted that when he first was assigned to this lawsuit he thought we were guilty. However, after interviewing my partner and I and the witnesses, he changed his opinion and believed Porter was in fact guilty. When the case went to trial in 2005, he changed his approach on how to defend us. Instead of defending our investigation, he acted as a prosecutor and tried the case as he was the prosecuting Porter for killing the two victims. His strategy worked, the jury found us not liable for our actions. After the trail several of the jurors stated that, they believed Porter was guilty of the murders. If this case proved anything, hire competent attorneys and fight the case in court. The city position has always been on settling out of court thus avoiding a large payout. But how much larger can the payouts be. Because the city is paying out these large settlements, there are several law firms whose business model is only to go out and seek convicted felons to sue the city. Fight the dam lawsuits.

If I remember right Chuck the lawsuits started with Harold Washington being Mayor and when asked his response was “You can’t deny these people their money”
Richard J Daley instructed the law dept to fight every lawsuit.

Ever hear of punitive damages? City don't pay that. Take cases to trial, lose, you pay. If it was me, I wouldn't give a fuck if the city has to settle for a billion dollars, as long as I don't pay.
Good it worked out for you Charlie. Back then, 30 years ago, they assigning punitives like they are now. Have you gone up against that bottom feeder Loevy? And have the ineffectual lawyers the city gives you? A recent case was lost on a conviction reversal, and the dics are on the hook for big $$$.
Why doesn't Chuck Goudie or Maryanne Ahern question the Mayor or Police Superintendent about promoting police officers to supervisory positions that did not pass an exam with a score over 70%? It's very dangerous to have unqualified supervising police officers. These same merit supervisors are usually hidden in a unit because they are unqualified to deal with citizen's or knowledgeable police officers.
