Cook County State’s Attorney Eileen O’Neill Burke is asking Illinois residents to contact their state legislators and push for an overhaul of the state’s electronic monitoring law.
“The whole system right now is broken and it needs a legislative fix,” Burke said in a wide-ranging interview with Landon Campbell posted to YouTube on Sunday. “So, I’m going to be asking you and everybody you know and everybody who’s listening to this to please reach out to your legislators and tell them that you do not believe that violent criminals should be on electronic monitoring. They should not and we can work out an agreement with the legislators of okay, where do we draw the line?”
Burke said electronic monitoring was never intended to function as an alternative to detention for people accused of violent crimes.
“Electronic monitoring first came about when we were under a bond system and it was a way if somebody didn’t have the money to make bond but they weren’t a dangerous person you could put them on electronic monitoring,” Burke said.
But the system has evolved, Burke said, while the law governing it has created a series of problems that become more consequential when defendants accused of violent crimes are placed on monitoring.

Don't get us wrong, we're more than happy to see O'Neill Burke on board with what we've been broadcasting for years, but please don't pretend it's something you just noticed now.

He wants medical,disciplinary,complimentary ,arrest activity attached. He is also informing all merit that they will spend a minimum of one year in district patrol before being assigned to a unit. District patrol means a watch, not CAPS or Tactical Lt.

In addition, ALL Dem state reps and senators in Springfield voted in their respective chambers to pass that act. So, wake up and understand that there is not a single prosecutor that is your friend. They are not there to be your friend; they are not there to assist the police. They are there to prosecute cases. If you're not careful, they will come for you. It doesn't take a crime it simply requires pressure from the community and that's all. Wake up!

We should talk to the State’s Attorney about bringing criminal charges up on the city for not giving us the VRI back pay we are owed. Still not sure what they owe us? Is it 100 million or is it 900 million? Nobody can give us a straight answer. Also the court ruled that for every month they don’t pay us they have to add another 5 percent.

Last year the FOP said it was 475 Million and the city said it was 225 Million. With all that interest that we are earning it’s much higher today. It started off at 14 million and because the city didn’t want to pay it’s growing like crazy. Supposedly FOP and the city can’t come to an agreement on the amount owed that’s why you can’t get a straight answer. My guess is that it’s probably in the middle of the two amounts plus 5 percent interest for every month they don’t pay up. So I’m guessing between 400 and 500 million. This time next year it’ll be 600 million.
