Time to Break the CTU
Didn't this country fight a civil war about owning other human beings?
Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) president Stacy Davis Gates said on Monday that “all children belong to” the union.
At the City Club Chicago event, Gates bashed President Donald Trump for lessening the power of teachers’ unions, calling his education agenda a “relitigation” of the Civil War while complaining about the failing state of Chicago schools.
Quoting civil rights activist James Baldwin, Gates tells the crowd, “The children are always ours. Every single one of them, all over the globe.” Gates then mocks parents who would respond by saying “CTU thinks your children are its children.”
“Yes, we do,” Gates said. “We do.”
How many fewer kids are there in the schools, year over year? How many near-empty schools are sucking up millions in tax money? How many criminal acts are covered up annually by the CTU?
Time to show the teachers that parents - who pay their salaries - should be the people calling the shots.
Mendoza is already staking out that territory in the mayoral race. Pay attention for more.

About time. These morons think a teaching certificate or a masters from Chicago State means they have all the answers and only they know "the Truth." Truth is, kids and parents are a sacred bond, only severed when a court of law finds it necessary to protect the minor. You may not agree with another's parenting style or the mores they hope to instill, but unless the child is in actual danger, it's NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS. Now it's political bent, next they'll say they are saving kids when they "correct" religious beliefs. I used to like and respect teachers, now I think they are just slowly kidnapping the kids' minds, not teaching what the kids really need, and are stealing taxpayer money.
Yes, there are good teachers, but looking at test scores, they aren't here. Good teachers know this and need to speak out.
Mendoza is the only hope this city has to get back to our acceptable normalcy. Everybody in the city needs to get out and vote, especially us.

Sure the schools suck, but how many CPD send their kids to public schools ? Even Stacy Gates known better then to send her kids to a CPS school. When looking for a H.S. ask to see where the most recent class of seniors went after graduation. If you can't get your child into one to the top schools then maybe you should consider a private school. Having a creature with a beard wearing a dress while reading books at story time to kids is the norm. So is having a radical communist come and project hate speech for grammer school kids. Or the "May Day" protests. No one is running this city. Go do whatever you want !
CPS needs to consolidate the underused schools. It’s a waste of resources to have only 100 kids in a school that should have 600. There’s money to be saved

We need a strong man or strong woman such as Margarett Thatcher to break the Public Teachers Union or just “The Teachers Union” as these teachers unions also monopolize lots of private and parochial schools with teacher licensing.

When I got divorced, I let my son go to a far northwest suburban high school rather than be in any city Chicago high school and it was a better move from the divorce as hard as that decision was and he is a successful man now and moved to North Carolina.
That NEVER would have happened if he stayed living with me going to Taft high school!

We need to do more than get out and vote, we need to make sure we volunteer for their campaign and on Election Day make sure people go vote
Defund the CTU...pass the private school funding act. Ill send my kids where I want. My kids are 10 and 12 years old and sound like idiots when they read out loud. They have done enough damage. Fire all the teachers, turn public schools into a temporary detention center. People can drop off their kids on Monday and pick them up on Friday. Babysitters is all they want anyways.

If CTU "owns" the kids, then let them take ownership of their public behavior. Those yutes participating in teen takeovers? Blame CTU members for it - they obviously didn't civilize them. Yutes stealing car batteries and catalytic converters? Blame CTU members - didn't get the message across that getting the high quality education they receive from CTU members leads to gainful employment that pays well and doesn't get you a prison sentence. Yute gets shot by police after brandishing a weapon? Don't blame police - their response was just the effect. Yute's actions were the cause, and CTU was the cause of that. Never taught the yute that actions have consequences, and death could be one if the action warrants it. CTU just opened the door and gave sociological and psychological pablum for antisocial behavior the boot.

Doesn’t make a difference where they went. Most CPS gifted grads are out of their depth in demanding colleges. Find out where they are 4 years later. The really smart ones will thrive anywhere but some cops delude themselves that their smart but not brilliant kid is getting an edge in CPS. I did the same thing, my son and daughter both went to Catholic grammar school and high schools. I worked a part-time job to pay for their education. It was well worth it. Both are successful in their chosen field.
my bet is 30% of cps teachers live in suburbs ,so do many firefight3ers.Fraudulent loans , union spending and nobody goes to jail.put the CFD on 12 hour shifts, get these hose pullers to retire, sleep at work, run construction businesses on days off. Same here. Not Catholic but it was worth it. They’re not perfect but beat CPS by 1000 miles. Safe, academics were fine, sports and social atmosphere in American mainstream. Two sons are doing great today. One in Texas, one in South Carolina. Didn’t bring the Chicago taint with them.
