Cops Injured by Fireworks

  • A Chicago Police officer was injured by a firecracker Monday morning at the 17th District station in the Albany Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

The man went into the restroom at the station in the 4600 block of North Pulaski about 5:50 a.m. and was injured by a novelty firework most commonly known as a firecracker or "noisemaker," police said.

The officer was taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital as a precaution in good condition, police said.

The station’s bathroom was not damaged.
Thank goodness the bathroom was okay! Now who's going to step up and take the suspension time on this one?

This other one is how stupid ideas get coppers hurt:
  • Two Chicago police officers were injured when someone threw a powerful firecracker at their squad car in the South Shore neighborhood Sunday, authorities said.

[...] The South Shore incident happened around 4:20 p.m. Sunday, according to police.

Two officers were on patrol in the 7400 block of South Exchange Avenue when a red Toyota Camry pulled up and someone inside threw the large firecracker at their squad car and it exploded, said [...] a police spokeswoman.
First of all, the officers weren't "on patrol." They were on a fixed post for an aldercreature. This particular aldercreature wants the cops parked at that spot every day because of crime in the area - that way, no one has to pay for a separate security guard. In fact, right after the cops went to the hospital, there was another squad immediately assigned to the spot, one of three the aldercreature has manned every day:
  • All because the aldermen want fixed posts so the district downs three rapid cars every day to babysit three corners and put huge targets on the POs heads. And each fixed post needs relief for lunch, personals or any arrests they go in for. So at any point there may be up to six cars down in a busy district because the aldermen want it.
This makes the coppers sitting ducks for any asshole who wants to throw an explosive at the car. Brilliant idea! And such a wise use of manpower - and taxpayer money. Hey Eddie, you think we could get that around our neighborhood?

Local media is playing this incident like
somebody bounced a little "popper" against
the window instead of the quarter to half
stick it was suspected to be.

Bastards...

Maybe some asshole will roll by and toss a
half-stick into a media member's family
truckster on their way to the local
Culver's or Dairy Queen.

See how much factual reportage happens
behind that.

Think about it...
The concussion from the blast
STALLED the damn car!

Cop lighting fireworks in the bathroom? Someone got some explaining to do.

The aldercreature is wetting his beak and he don't want no thugs interfering with his beak getting wet.

Remember boys and girls the next time you talk to your aldercreature about a problem in your hood, and the aldercreature tells you that there is no way the commander of the district will be able to assign a car to solve your problem at precise time your problem is occurring because of a shortage of coppers.

Same shit in 14. Midnights is soooooo short handed and on top they down a midnight beat car every night, including July 3,4th on a fixed post. For what? For some alderman. 4 BEAT cars down on midnights in 14. 1 beat car on a fixed post with no jobs taken. That's 5 BEAT cars down. Pay your taxes well citizens of the 14th District. Pay your taxes well!

Re: the incident on 7400 S. Exchange - originally the newscasts were classifying it as 'a 1/2 stick of dynamite,' now they're just downsizing the thing to mere 'firecrackers.'

When did the police become a security detail for aldercreatures... The commander should say no! Aren't they deputies and have a slush fund to do as they please??

First and foremost... Good luck to all the injured officers. Heal well and fully.
(EMPHASIS ADDED)

In regards to that first story in 017, I'm surprised the media didn't report...
"A lone toilet in the 017 District was blown up on the 4th of July. No one in custody.
Police indicate they have nothing to go on."

(Too soon?)

I saw the comment that these fixed posts are there to keep from hiring a security guard? Does the alder creature have some type of business at these locations? I recall when Ford was in englewood, and the alder women had some type of bus company. She could park her buses, dozens of them in the district parking lot and he had a car sit on the store front for her. Nothing new here these things happen all of the time with politics. I could ask where is the deputy chief in these matters. Does not the district commander have to show their plans to the chief ? Is everyone in on this political bullshit?

It's time these fixed posts become more active, get out of vehicle, stretch those legs, walk and talk, don't be a sitting target. Who knows you may unknowingly be sitting there all day protecting an aldercreature's dope spot. Yep, because we all know that's how some of them roll, by keeping it real, and giving back to their constituents.

I remember back in the early 90's back in Englewood playing pranks on each other to help pass the time on midnites. Another car had been hunting myself and partner after we had snuck up on them in Hamilton Park and caught them by surprise and gave them a good scare. Their revenge came one night when they caught us taking a break again back at Hamilton Park. One of them snuck up and dropped a lit M80 just outside our squad without us seeing it. The explosion was loud and scared us pretty good but neither of us had to "seek medical treatment"

Another midnight prank found one of the new ASTRO prisoner vans parked up on the hill by RR tracks at 57th and Stewart. They screwed up and didn't lock the doors. A little pack of firecrackers got tossed into the rear compartment. Scared the he'll out of them but again, neither "sought medical treatment"
It seems that some of today's Police are just soft.

It's a shame that in this day, with the antipolice mentality that we'd put our own as sitting ducks. Today it's a firework. Tomorrow it could be bullets, bomb, you name it. This is serious and needs to be addressed.

These fixed posts are ineffective to crime and dangerous to coppers, not to mention a long day/morale killer for the officers who draw the short straw. 003 now has three posts that cater to local politicians, a post where the officers have to park at a specific location and cannot move w/o a face to face relief(hold your bladder). A post that ties up several cars all day long in a district that is in a constant back log. How can such a political favor help a community if it extends the time it takes to respond to calls for service? And the list of issues goes on and on...

The tip of the day make an arrest when on post!

the commander will talk like he has balls but they always back down they can't order you to not make lawful arrest. Plus the commander will go hunting for a new blueshirt to fill in the spot who will not beef or cause waves.

Merit hacks avoid aggressive officers like the plague and if you can write great paper you will never be posted anywhere.

It was NOT a pack of little firecrackers.
Don't you get it?
The media minimized it into 'just firecrackers'.

ONE spot? THREE tips, from what we hear there.

Ald. be "scared." Right. Laughing up his sleeve.

Look into this before poor blue shirt gets dragged into a major Federal "conspiracy" charge. WC too? Is WC able to say, "Sorry, no cars available tonight. Major 'anti-gun-crime" initiative running tonight, orders Supt. And next week."

So dip into your million-dollar ward slush fund and hire your own f__ked-up, hooked-up local "security guards" that be play cousins for the whole block, and write everything off as clownin. They make a duty belt holder that fits a can a Steel Reserve? Before signing, check tats for forks/stars, etc.

Ofc. were detailed to sit there.

A. not a cop.

B. A total asshole.

C. Hi...you know who you are. So do we. Been ages of trolling now.

D. NATO is over here. Years ago. Go seek "social justice" in Raqqua, where Daesh will stone you to death or set you ablaze in an iron cage or throw you off a ten-story building.

I'd say "see ya," but...well, we'd rather pass.

many years ago i worked with a retired chicago cop. he had many great cop stories to tell. a fair number of them involved pranks with fireworks.

one he seemed to like to tell on a regular basis was how a certain sgt used to go into the men's room early in the morning, find a nice stall, and take a nap sitting on the john.

one day someone threw a pack of firecrackers into the bathroom while he was in there asleep. the sgt woke up grabbed his revolver and let loose some rounds, destroying a toilet in the process.

could just be a story.

This is why you keep your windows close to the top during the days leading up to the 4th of July. People don't really care where they toss lighted fireworks, especially when they're high or drunk.
