More Cops!!! Please!
Some people are noticing that when the cops disappear from "quiet" neighborhoods, the neighborhood suddenly isn't so quiet anymore:
- Hundreds of Albany Park and Irving Park residents packed a Thursday night meeting to demand more police officers be assigned to the area — and found out it’s happening. Thanks to community demands, the Albany Park (17th) Police District will be getting at least 10 new police officers, State Rep. Jaime Andrade, Jr. announced during the meeting at Bateman Elementary, 4220 N. Richmond St.
The meeting was organized by a new group known as the Northwest Safety Coalition, a “super group” of existing organizations that came together in response to crime in the neighborhood. The group includes The Residents of Irving Park, Horner Park Neighbors, Irving Park East Neighborhood Association, Irving Park Concerned Neighbors Association, Women of the 33rd Ward and Israel’s Gifts of Hope.
Some neighbors have been asking for more cops in the Albany Park Police District since October, when there were a series of shootings. Joanna Read, one of the neighbors who helped organize Thursday’s meeting, said the local police district has lost nearly 20 officers over the past two years. She and other members of the coalition used information from the city’s data portals to document the decline.
So even if they get those ten cops, they're still down ten from two years ago. And of those ten, even if they're divided evenly among the watches, that's three per watch, and one of those is RDO at any given time.
So 017 gains one squad car per shift...on average. And who knows, maybe that car makes all the difference, especially on Irving Park Road. But maybe it doesn't, and the years of draining "quiet" districts comes back to bite the citizens in the butt who (if we're reading this electoral map correctly) voted for Rahm and Groot and Crimesha.

"hey, in the country I was born (Mexico)... the police are only in the rich neighborhoods and busy streets. Police dont go to bad neighborhood because those bad neighborhoods dont generate taxes to pay the police. It is my opinion that CPD is 50% fat, half the police department should be forced to retire or fired and Chicago will be ok with half the police department. Pull the Police back to the neighborhoods that pay their salary"

Second, just wait until early summer when 017 will be stripped of the supposed 10 officers and sends them to various details on the west side, CTA and god knows where else. However, what really needs to happen is the cook county justice system needs to punish criminals and make them fear the consequences of their crimes. This doesn’t happen anymore.

I was in 017 in 2000 and when I retired a while back, we were down to nearly 170 officers. The total in 2000 was around 340, IIRC. They've drained Stalag 017 for decades now. The only reason there aren't more retirements lately is there aren't that many real old timers left there any longer. Now, all the old timers were hired in the early 2000's and will be hitting the exits in a couple of more years. Politicians and their clueless constituents are always like 20 years behind in realizing what is happening right now. Kind of like that mysterious "Code of Silence" that existed in CPD right up to the time they started federally prosecuting coppers for not tricking on their felonious colleagues, LIKE 40 YEARS AGO.
Any amount helps because 017 is running on fumes when it comes to manpower. It not only cheats the taxpayers out of the protection they are paying for but also is an officer safety issue.

Not to mention the officers who retire every few months and others that bid out every few months. There were something like 10 openings a little over a year ago, 017 got 10 new bodies, but at the same time 4 other officers bid out to 016.
2 days ago on 2nd watch, 2 cars were up. Last week on 1st watch, 1 night they had 3 cars up. Random shootings, catalytic converters and burglaries are through the roof with detectives closing almost none of it.
Add Garfield Ridge to that list. Guess no more cops in the cop neighborhoods. I guess they expect patrol to work off duty nowadays to save payroll.

You know I know most people elected the fools that have decimated the police department numbers and tied the hands of officers that prevent (and in most instances endanger an officer’s career) proactive policing, but here is where my sympathy is gained because most are fed a steady stream of media lies, whether regular broadcast news or social media bs. Many don’t have police family or aren’t touched by this shit like we are, so they’ve more or less been programmed. It will take a few cycles of Crime hitting them hard before they start to get it. Before they start seeking out alternative sources for their information. So while we criticize these groups crying about it, I’m at least encouraged that some are noticing it. I don’t live where a lot of police live and I’ve tried to explain to my neighbors how police service is pulled from areas where it’s low (or rather just not reported not that it’s not happening). They don’t get it until it affects them. All these new social justice policies are starting to affect the sympathetic followers, so now the light bulb is going off. But will the department send them someone to these groups who feeds them a bunch of politically correct bullshit instead of the cold hard facts?

In the 004th District , particularly the East Side, and Hegewisch, pulling Officers off their beat, has been going on for Years. One would think, for the safety of the Officers, as well as the Good, law Abiding, Tax paying Citizens, who live on the East Side of the River, the powers that be, would see to it, that both of these, once beautiful neighborhoods would always have Police presence. However when you question this, the answer is always the same. Calls for service dictate Police presence. So your neighborhood is basically without Police presence because the citizens are civil.

The 2nd district has sergeants tripping over each other and are being stopped from moving anywhere else. The commander has a ridiculous amount of staffing and it’s helped him look great for compstat especially since he’s angling for a bump up the food chain. Fuck everyone else!

I know it’s not popular and I’m not trying to be a hater but narcotics arrests have gone to the wayside in Chicago. It’s all about tratment anyways including the dealers. Long term stuff can be from the feds so get rid of narcotics and put them back into districts. Second, get rid of all the saturation teams. The only work from saturation teams, especially in area central is arrests for suspended licenses. Put them back on beat cars. For downtown details, events etc you still have gang enforcement, the detail unit and tac/mission teams to handle. Every district should have a minimum on all watches of every beat car up and 3 rapids per sector. These eliminations would give districts all over the city plenty of manpower. If you want even more bodies then make all mission and tac teams only 8 person teams. That would add another 10 bodies back to the watch per district. 4 bodies to afternoons and 4 bodies to midnights and 2 bodies to days. That equals 2 cars per watch if you do the two guys on days riding 99. Add in all the bar it’s and sat people and plenty of cars and plenty of manpower for people to take days off. Saturation teams have become useless traffic garbage teams and nobody at all cares about drug arrests anymore a. DEA and task force teams can handle the long term investigations and wires.

A good gesture, but ultimately futile, especially if more police officers result in more arrests, and the likes of Kim Foxx, Tom Dart, Toni Preckwinkle and Judge Timothy Evans constantly releases these criminals back into the community.

Maybe if Cato would stop pulling all the 016th, 17th and 20th district tact teams every weekend to work 011 and 015 they could patrol their own districts. It’s bad enough that area north gangs, narcotics, gun and sat teams are supposed to be dispersed throughout area north not exclusively working 11 and 15.
