Smart911?
First we heard of it, and it sounds like a good idea....in theory:
- Shortly after his stunning decision not to seek a third-term, Rahm Emanuel asked Chicagoans who might be afraid to share their personal information to take a leap of faith — by creating a “safety profile” with a new system he called, “Smart911.”
The $300,000-a-year system allowed victims of domestic violence to share images, descriptions of abusers and orders of protection. It included medical histories like allergies, diabetes and epilepsy as well as medications, mental and behavioral health conditions.
Giving first-responders as much information as possible before they arrive on the scene had great potential to save lives and de-escalate dangerous situations. But it would only be as good as the information Chicagoans volunteered to provide.
Now, City Hall is acknowledging only 15,550 residents have enrolled in Smart911 in the 16 months since Emanuel announced it with great fanfare.
It's good to see the inherent distrust of government still runs deep, even in a democrat shithole like Chicago. Illegals aren't going to participate, nor are those who live outside of the law or have had experience within the justice system. Neither are the scammers who might be collecting extra monies via fraud (like dead Mom's Social Security checks.) Then there are the people who remember city employees are notorious for harvesting and selling information to gangs, lawyers and bill collectors.

The problem is, you cannot count on the media to assist with any Public Safet Announcements. OEMC should do their own blitz regarding Smart911or face scrutiny from the media since they like to spin it negatively.

It is difficult to enroll. I would recommend it for everyone, you never know if you will need it.But I could not get it to work on my phone.

DuPage has had Smart911 since 2011 and county-wide since 2016.
When my village ditched its own 911 system to join the DuPage 911 we were all encouraged to go the Smart911 Route as a Safety Factor for the resident and Police & Fire, like Medical Issues or if you had a Dog -- was it friendly, a biter of strangers, or just a Barker (our 12yo Lab just Barks).
We thought about enrolling but declined.
Maybe I'm just paranoid but I thought, how long until Smart911 wants to know if there's a weapon in the residence?.. and eventually -- if democrats got their way to -- a detailed description of EVERY firearm in the residence.
Not enrolling didn't effect my 911 service. In Oct I needed an Ambo stat and the wife called 911. A Village Police Officer was at my house in like 2 Minutes and EMT's a minute later. I'm still amazed how fast the response was, they're friggen great!

Smart911 was only developed to aid the Donor-vendor, that’s about it.
Basically it puts onus on the CPD which will include unpredictable responsibilities and unchallengeable accountability. DV victims are not being helped even in the Preckwinkle Cook County Courts, where frivolous no-show SOL’s and pleas deals are the game.

OEMC never keeping up the pace as usual, especially when Rahm added that $5 surcharge almost 2 yrs ago.
As OEMC struggles to keep up with technology in the digital age, not to mention the invoicing fraud perpetrated when Huberman ran the gamut, Chicago is the only big city still using what could be the equivalent of two soup cans-on-a-string tech system.
$300,000 a year...that will get you an interim superintendent, or a redecorated City Hall office or two revrun Bentley’s.

The Pacific Northwest is begging for cops and firefighter / EMT's. In the next five years 50% of firefighters here will be eligible for retirement. I work with a former Chicago guy and he and his family love it. They traded the South side for acreage and some chickens and are never looking back. If you're a cop try to stay out of Seattle though.
actually if it does what it is supposed to do it provides a lot of relevant information about what they are heading into. Also good for finding someone without a landline. If calling an ambulance can be lifesaving.

Three ways to spell one in the same, in my view.
Like anything else, the data contained in this database will only be as good as those providing it and those maintaining it.
Whose responsibility will it be to get the updated information; the 9-1-1 user or OEMC?
Will someone at OEMC enter the data to keep the database current? Will it be the responsibility of an outside vendor? Do you want your data accessible to an outside contractor?
Once the maintenance of the database falls apart, it will quickly become useless.

Holy Hell, this was a life saver for the department I dispatched for! I had tons of information I could give my guys while they were still enroute.
Domestics, if weapons were involved. All kinda of information. If it was a medical run, we had information about the type of Illness the person had at our finger tips, and gave it to fire before they got there! Great tool to have!
This info goes to OEMC, a city agency. Can you FOIA it?
Giving out personal and medical information about you and your family members to the any government agency is fool hardy a best and just plain stupid. This is particularly true here in Shitty City were corrupt Democratic city officials tell to trust them, that you're protected, sign agreements and then willfully and wantonly violate anything the city chooses. Do you trust these criminal masquerading as honest brokers.
If you have a scanner and listen in on emergency services calls how will that information be protected over the open air waves. Look at the Imp and the Shitty Hall clowns taxing the shyt out of residents. Always crying poor while suddenly finding money for bull shyt programs for selected groups for the Sanctuary City, Malinowski's money grab with the City & Univ. of Chicago, contract set asides, real estate business deals and other graft and corruption. Just look at what they're doing with your tax dollars. Again, do you trust these goofs with your privacy.
