The other day I was on Foster Ave and at about Keeler Ave on the north side of the street I see a pup tent erected, with some other junk,in the CTA bus shelter. Farther east at about Keeler on the south side of the street I see another shelter with a large tarp covering the opening and junk all over and old bicycle wheels hanging from the roof. This one is even pictured on Google maps. So if it is cold, raining, snowing, the bus commuters have to stand there getting wet or do they need to as permission of the shelter if you can wait in his living room, if you can climb over the junk. In Districts I used to work in I am seeing people living in the parks that you wouldn’t see 10 years ago.
This situation is beyond ridiculous.

I agree with the earlier post about the insurance. Something needs to change. It’s not right that we should be penalized for getting on the job young. It makes no sense that someone who works 20 years gets insurance but some guy with over 30 years can’t get the insurance because he’s not 55 yet.

The 19th district made photos of our drivers license, cpd id and foid card. Never before had we to do this for inspection. Yes, we did show id's at inspection time but NEVER had to make copies of it.

This maybe true, but they just told us in officer wellness class the average life expectancy of a police officer is age 66 or 5-7 years after retirement. When the average male worker retires at 65 they have the life expectancy of 83, females is 86. And, we don’t work a normal job, tell me when a normal worker has constant adrenaline dumps on a daily bases at work like we do or how often they have to worry about being killed, maimed, paralyzed, the psychological trauma, always on edge, second guessed, suspended, sued, criminally charged, ridiculed by everyone or constantly threatened of losing their job and pension. Not to mention the constant days of canceled, missed holidays, family events, lack of sleep because you worked until 4am and had court at 9am and sat there all day to only go straight back to work for 3rd watch, and so on and so forth. No, I’m not weak, I knew what I was getting into when I took this job but they sure didn’t tell me I wouldn’t live as long as the average person when I retire.
Google it and read the multiple studies online before you go spouting off at your pole smoker only because you got yours! Just because you got yours doesn’t make it right!!!! Asshat

This sounds way off. My father retired at 62 and died at 82. Had 20 years on pension. Smoked most of his life, drank several beers a day, and never exercised —he was in average or less shape. He worked streets in a tough district for over 20 years. My cousin retired at 58, on the streets for 30 years, and is going strong at 81, in his 23rd year of pension. Cousin’s brother in law is retired 10 years now and in 70s. That’s anecdotal evidence and I understand you guys now are under incredible stress and have horrible working conditions, so life expectancy could be decreasing, but only 5-7 years in retirement doesn’t sound right.
Those “ankle bracelets” are not from Cook County . They are issued at the border , for those coming over in order to track them and ensure they attend their given appointment date with immigration. It’s a tracker for the process of coming over illegally . Most people know that by now though, too bad some of you didn’t get the memo . Yes they are in our space and in our neighborhoods so it might be to our best interest to do some research & get facts instead of just assuming they are all criminals. I retired at 50 with 27 years on the job, if you are single with no kids the private insurance is not that expensive. Don't let the insurance keep you on the job longer than you want. The city can take that away at anytime...
