Windfall Provision Movement?

Someone forwarded us this letter (click for larger images):

Sixty-two co-sponsors, so that's almost two-thirds of the Senate. No idea what support there is in the House, but can someone explain if we weren't contributing throughout our career, are our qualifying quarters pre-CPD going to get us a sizable payout? And what effect would tens-of-thousands (perhaps hundreds of thousands) of previously ineligible government employees suddenly becoming eligible for SS benefits do to the accounting figures? The government is bankrupt as it is.

That's the plan. Destroy the dollar, then start over with CBDC,

Terry Savage put out a book last year that addresses this. "Social Security Horror Stories" or something like that. She seems to be in favor of this.

If you worked CTA special, at least they did when I was there, then they collected SS from you. I know quite a few officers worked it specifically because of that. It was only straight time pay but did help to gain extra quarters paid in. And quite a few officers I knew also worked many hours at outside jobs where they also paid in to SS. There were guys in these outside job that weren't P.O's. They would qualify for full SS benefits when they were retired. But the P.O's that worked that outside job right alongside them would only get a fraction and even less depending on how much their pension was. How was this even fair! Thanks for nothing Dan "stamp thief" Rostenkowski you POS! Rot in Hell!

Whatever you get it will be drastically higher if this passes. The S.S. Estimate on their website had me at around $475 a month. (Yes I have all my quarters) the Windfall deduction brought my takehome down to $14.00 (Yes Fourteen) per month.

but if the government starts giving tax dollars back to the legal American citizens who actually paid into the system, then how will they be able to give away all those same dollars to the illegals and lifelong welfare recipients who claim their drug addiction is a handicap???

I began working full time when I was 16.I didn’t assume this job until later in life. I paid into to SS for17 years. Rostenkowski essentially stole my contributions and gave them to someone else, but hey, isn’t that what socialists do?

Check your benefits statement on the SS website. As an example, if this becomes law, my reduced $720 would increase to $1300 at 62.

First off it’s not for ineligible, if you paid in you will now get what is due to you! If the government has money for millions of illegals at the cost of millions or billions, they have the money to payout to the people who paid, in instead of giving their money to the illegals! Also if the government can give money to Ukraine, billions and money to all these other countries the government can pay the citizens who paid in!

Milwaukee cops also don’t pay into social security so the WEP kicks in. To figure out how it impacts you, create a SSA account and get your annual earnings. This website explains WEP https://www.ssa.gov/pubs/EN-05-10045.pdf

And this website is a calculator. https://www.ssa.gov/benefits/retirement/planner/anyPiaWepjs04.html

This vaguely worded letter was written by the two top political strategists of the Democratic and Republican parties. In a political sense, it is a masterfully written piece, never getting specific about any details and only talking about "fairness" and "safety". Financially, it completely avoids any indication on how this would be paid for and what effect it would have on the Social Security Fund. It is a perfect example of why people can't stand politicians.

If you have 30 years or more of substantial earnings, the WEP formula does not take effect. I collect full SS $2231 at age 62. I worked everyday I was off from the CFD driving a truck for a company plus a small pension from the teamsters.

I didn’t get on the job until I was 29. I had all my quarters. I also worked side jobs along with CTA which continued to take SS out. I am now retired and have a new job which also takes SS out. I have always thought this is a messed up system. It’s the government stealing from the people which is normal these days. Why continue to take the money from us if we don’t get it?

This isn’t going anywhere. This happens each legislative session. So some crooked politician, in this case Brown who is in a close race, can claim pro public worker positions. Have heard this same nonsense for 12 years. Shummer will send it to committee so it can die. Just like McConnell did in the past the same happens when it’s introduced bipartisan in the house.

If passed they won’t make it retroactive. It will start after the law was passed. It also would affect the 2nd of 2 laws Rosty passes?
Before anyone take this seriously it is any election year ploy, make promises to get the vote and nothing happens afterwards. Politicians will have a million reasons to not pass it. They have had how many years to do this and now it’s put out there just before the election. You can’t be that naive

Its just another bill that will not be approved by the house, and then the Democrats will hold it up during the election to tout a bipartisan bill that was shot down by Republicans just like the bad border bill, that did nothing to stop illegals from coming in.

We've been fighting for this for years. National FOP continues to lobby for it. There is a Facebook page National WEP & GPO Repeal Movement. Check it out. In addition to your own SS benefit being cut, the GPO could eliminate your spouse's benefit. We have 321 co-sponsers in the House. We have the votes to pass this and finally get what we've worked for, but the leaders have to bring it to the floor.

Obviously you don’t have your quarters in to collect social security so you don’t care but a lot of officers do and would love to have an extra $1200 a month or whatever it would be to spend as they please.Social Security has been broke and the federal government has been broke and the pension has been under funded forever but everyone is still getting a check so cheer up a little don’t be Mr Negative

Correct! I have all my quarters and now retired and working a job that takes out more SS. I want what I paid into it just like everyone else. If you haven’t put in then this is of no concern. But remember, there’s scammers in their 20s faking a disability that never worked a day that get SS now. So the people that did work and put in should get it.

When a suit is filed and you win, then the retro part comes into play. Usually not on new laws
