All is Well!
Pay no attention to those pesky crime stats....murders are down!
- Shoplifting reports in Chicago have soared 45% this year, making 2024
the worst year for retail theft in the city since at least 2003. There
could be a couple of reasons for the spike.
CWBChicago decided to look into the city’s shoplifting rate after our team, while working on neighborhood crime rate reports for our subscribers, discovered that retail theft reports were driving crime rates substantially higher in parts of the city. For example, in Avondale, shoplifting reports spiked from 87 during the first half of 2023 to 240 through June of this year.
We discovered that, as of July 29, Chicago police had taken 7,584 shoplifting reports this year, up from 5,275 during the same period last year. That makes 2024 the worst year for shoplifting since 2003, the first year with complete retail theft data in the city’s online crime database.
The average person doesn't care that much about homicides because the average person isn't really at much risk (statistically speaking) of being murdered. They're far more likely to be the victim of a burglary, robbery or random battery than a homicide, and the shoplifting spike being seen here and elsewhere is (of course) indicative of larger problems in the crime picture.
Homicides are headline grabbers (which is how we write about them most times), but the thing that makes people and businesses miserable is stuff like this.
(by the way, per Heyjackass.com, homicides are down around forty....but woundings are up nearly forty.....go figure)

Armed robberies are up and getting more dangerous! No plan in place to address anything. No real leadership in CPD. Public left to handle things on their own. The shoplifting will cause more businesses to choose.

We should start a fund to help buy shit-heads better ammo.-
The cost of all the shoplifting will be passed onto the Customers.
People don’t realize that crime costs them money. The retail theft is passed on to the consumer in higher prices. The victims of violent crimes pay immediately when they are relieved of their belongings. And everybody pays for the shooting victims for their medical & rehab journeys through higher taxes. People don’t realize that voting for Democrats perpetuates this massive problem.
Please confirm if true! I've heard that many crimes have been downgraded so as to reflect a favorable drop in crime, including catalytic converter theft being categorized as "misplaced property."
But...
If one person feels it's "their" reparations....is it not worth it.
Vote democrat for more.
.
Homicide is down because CPD has saved more “victims” of shootings this year than in any previous year to date .
HeyJackass here - Despite what Conehead says, shootings are at the same level as last year, almost exactly to the person shot. What’s different this year is the fatality rate from those shootings is down by 2-3 percentage points. In other words, for every 100 people (or folks) shot, 2-3 fewer are dying. So over the course of 2000 shot, that’s 40-60 fewer homicides.
Stats are driven by the "bean counters". If you have the right bean counters crime will be down. Remember there are only two legitimate activities in Chicago - Pro wrestling and police statistics. It's the Chicago Way.
those are not cases of shoplifting,,,,, according aoc that is just people getting bread to feed their families
It's just property crimes ....who cares.....(Sarcasm off).....
80% of the reports go nowhere anyway, victims don't want to cooperate out of fear of retaliation or they just don't ever contact the dicks !
Two thoughts, murders are down because of the quick response of emergency personnel (ShotSpotter?) and the quality of trauma care? Shoplifting is up and important because it affects the bottom line of the company experiencing the theft. This is why large companies pull out of high theft areas and why the Mom and Pop stores close. Food deserts anyone?
How many of these crimes would be prevented had the offender not been released under the no cash bail nonsense?
If that reflects the people caught (which is usually the dumber ones) what do you think the number would be if everyone was caught?
Murders may be down because the quality of medical intervention has improved dramatically, that explains the reporting of "woundings" up but murders down.
You know you're in a Democrat ghetto city when the laundry detergent, deodorant and hand lotion are locked up behind break-resistant glass like it's expensive jewelry {snicker}. These shoplifting crews were not a thing 10 years ago. They are everywhere in Chicago now and spreading to the suburbs. Walgreen's, Target, Ulta, Apple and Foot Locker stores seem to be the prime targets.
Finally something you can do. Show up and take a report.
Bring back Beetlehuice, Baby Huey, and Left is Best,. They will help out with the crime problem by causing more.
Why do small businesses leave the ghetto? Not because of people’s race but because of crime.
