From what I heard on City Wide 1, the dispatcher and all units involved did a great job, including blocking intersections and escorting the ambulance all the way to Northwestern Hosp.

Officer was shot at 6217 Calumet--there was a Just Cause there that ended Thrusday, as the BDs were offering 10grand to anyone who "put a hole in a cop" at the building. Three shots were fired while the officer was investigating drug activity in the building; broke his femur. Copper will be OK. Bad guy in custody.

What I think is sad is that because of today's political climate that officer hesitated when the offender raised the weapon because he thought it was a cell phone resulting in him being shot.

If it was a cellphone and the offender was shot, it would be another media circus of arm chair media quarterbacking, i.e. Serena Daniels.

Not to critize the police officer, but we have to make sure that the split second decision made will be the right one that won't cost you your life.

From what I see nowadays, officers are second guessing themselves because they could be thinking

what happens if...

or am I going to get sued if I do this...

even knowing they are in the right.

Guys, also a bit off the subject, but another New York copper was killed. This is the second one in less than a month. The most recent one was the copper who went home after a late shift, and heard glass breaking in the apartment next door. Long story short, after exchange of gunfire, two offenders were shot and the copper shot in the chest; died shortly. Strange thing is one of the offenders is "C" from the movie "A Bronx Tale". (He also appeared in the Sopranos) "C" is a friggin cop killer. "C" was shot two times by the copper. "C" was also arrested this summer for P.C.S. This job is getting more strange by the day!

Hey, take it easy on the ASAs, they float in and out of different branchs and FR, so they are always changing.

I have seen some wait until cop was on life support until they approved charges and others that approved for NO INJURIES, so don't bad mouth them.

They are within an adverserial position to ours and that is their job. If you present the best possible case and it doesn't get approved, then so be it. Learn for the next time.

Yes, I am a detective and have had many debates with ASAs regarding this subject. A good charge to start with involves "temporary questioning" 725ILCS105/114 maybe.
02 2005 enacted as class A misd if the person whom you are stopping for "terry" refuses to answer you ?s regarding his name, address, reason for in area etc.

Look it up and be safe.

If anyone ever raised a cell phone at me and then pointed at me, I'd shoot him. We all seen the Dept alerts of zip guns desguised as phones, shoes, pens, etc.

When ever you see an alert, grab it and xerox the piss out of it. Keep some for your future litigation and leave a pile for the other POs!!!

An off-duty officer in the Bronx was not as fortunate as the PO in 003.

No sooner has the NYPD buried Brooklyn 70th Pct. Officer Dillon Stewart, a fallen hero, another member of the NYPD has been murdered by two burglars in the Pelham Bay area of the Bronx.

Off-duty, Officer Daniel Enchautegui, 40th Pct. was awakenened by a pre-dawn burglary-in-progress next door. He put on his lanyard with his shield to investigate

Mortally wounded by a GSW to the chest, he still returned the gunfire and struck both burglars.

Meanwhile, our mayor continues to obstruct the implementation of H.R. 218.

The "Detective" must not be a very good one. Firstly, it doesn't matter whether they float in and out of the court branches. The law is written, and they have the books and can look up the way the charges read. Secondly, we are not supposed to be in an adversarial relationship with the States Attorneys office. They are supposed to assure that the elements of the crime are established. It is not their job to try the case over the phone (or in person). Thirdly, according to the way the law is written, there need be no injuries present to charge an individual with Agg Batt to a P.O. The States Attorneys Office chooses to ignore the law when it suits them. They refuse to approve cases that they may have to work to win in court, unless its high profile or involves someone who is noteworthy. So Detective, go to SVU if you don't want to fight for the working Police!!!!!!!!!!!

FYI- The ASAs in Felony Review do their approving and rejecting based on a percentage, each month their activity is checked. If they approve to much they are stuck in FR. An old trick in the old Area 3, (39 and Cal.), was to call bullshit cases in, knowing it will be rejected, so when a decent/iffy case came up there was a better chance for approval. Also they would get to know the ASA assigned to their area that week. The ASAs in FR rotate, days to nights and area to area. B4 you all start bitching, I am not saying they are right. Also if I am not mistaken, FR began as a federally funded program, like CAPS. FR was designed to not clog the jails and courts.

Let me start off by saying that I should have known that no matter what is posted here, whether to help POs or not, the anal and all-knowing "real police" that constantly visit this site would no be satisfied. I am an infrequent flyer on this site and I thought of helping out the "street cops" by giving them an option rather than using D/C, which will land them in Federal court, which I have been to for "working" and not hiding like some of you.

I also apologize for getting the statute number wrong, but the Class B Misd. changes were "enacted" in Feb 2005. To me, enacted means that they were approved, not just a bill waiting to be voted on. Maybe there have been changes since I used it last about 4 months ago. The point was read the new law changes whrn they come out in January and February.

Also, regarding the ASAs, I never said that I wouldn't work for the "Street Cops" because I stated that I have had many arguments with them regarding the letter and spirit of our laws. BUT, realize that just because you were spit on, pushed or looked at cock-eyed, doesn't mean that they are going to approve Felony charges. We, as police officers, do not have a say in that process and haven't since the 1980's when the overwhelming liberal politicians decided that the police were putting too many cases of poor M/1s.

You are kidding yourself if you actually believe that the ASAs and their boss are not adverserial to us. Yeah, they are supposed to work with us against the offender, but they will not think that way, their political bosses can not afford any bad press.

Say what you will. Have 3-5 years on and feel that you know everything and won't change, but you are the one in the dark.

Still, happy hunting and be safe.

p.s. Detectives will still be there to help you out regardless of your attitude.

I take it you define who the "working" police are right?

You don't think SVU fights for the working police because your only experience with SVU is when you lock up the 5 year old for Aggravated Battery to a Protected employee with Aggravated Battery to a P.O. for kicking you in the shins and flailing his arms about in an attempt to defeat the arrest.

You must have never made a Domestic Battery or a Child Abuse Arrest where you got battered.

Yup, you are the "working" police who probably checks the PDT for pending jobs of this type so that you can go down on a street stop. You sure hope that someone else gets that cluster F*$K. No wonder you don't know anything about SVU's function.

The real "working" police at work, how ironic. Leave a child hanging so that you can get your one bag PCS arrest.

A true worker you are.

For the working police!

God bless and protect each and every one of us!

God forbid that the lazy, dog ass police every find themselves in a world of shit, and they hope and pray that "Thee working Police" show up to save the day. (and not another dog)

In a District like the ones in the Southside (the working police) never get the awards they deserve for the work they do day in and day out. I had and Sgt. tell me all the time, (after always getting award worthy arrests), "Don't expect me to put you in for anything. You get your awards on the 1st and 16th".
And yet a copper in the Northside will get an award for having recovered the most stolen autos. (hint with no heads I may add). Whats wrong with this picture.

So to the ignorant lazy coppers, it's not about the awards. Cause half the time we don't get them.

So to all the working police watch yourself, write good paper, and continue doing what you love to do. Being the Police.

Mr. B Good

God Bless!

For those of you still think that a person's refusal to identify themselves to the police has been criminalized, I am posting the current legislative information. The bill is still in the House and was "re-referred" to the House Rules Committee. That was in March. Smart money says its going to die there. Result - Don't go trying to lock people up when they refuse to stop and talk to you if you have nothing more.

There a lot of hard working Detectives that would love to be working in Robbery or Homicide but are stuck in SVU and can't get out. You maybe the victim of a Agg. I have heard stories about PPO's in Districts that have stood by and watched as their patners have fought with a offender. There afraid that if they get into a fight attempting to arrest someone there are going to get fired? What are those Instructors (I can't call them the Police because the majority of them don't know what it is to make an arrest)teaching these PPO's at the training academy. Any PPO or PO that fails to help or come to the aide of his partner should be fired immediately. Oh! I forgot that we are the kinder, gentler and more friendly Police Department NOW.
