Cameras Cameras Everywhere

Watch yourselves boys and girls. All the following links are from Drudge. All the following links appeared on his website TODAY!
  • First up, Chicago! USA Today reports that the mayor wants cameras everywhere. The only thing remotely interesting is that the mayor wants businesses to pay for the cameras themselves AND THEN give the police access. Civil libertarians are appalled, but the democratic party has yet to scream "Eavesdropping! Eavesdropping!"
  • Houston wants cameras in "apartment complexes, downtown streets, shopping malls and even private homes to fight crime during a shortage of police officers. [...] (I)f you are not doing anything wrong, why should you worry about it?" Chief Harold Hurtt told reporters Wednesday [emphasis added - SCC]. Nice sentiments - we nominate the Chief's house to be the first "volunteer"
  • And Santa Monica Pier and Promenade are due for cameras soon.
Be aware people. Be very aware. Remember, even hospitals have cameras and retail security offices are all wired. There's a time and a place to act the fool, and nowadays isn't the time and just about everywhere isn't the place anymore.

After the doctors shoved a camera up my butt I knew it was all over.

It's only a matter of time before the cameras get smaller, cheaper and even better than they are now.

Soon every aspect of our lives will be available for an "instant replay".

I don't think this is what we really want. I say if the politicians want cameras on us than they should start by putting cameras in at their own offices so we can watch them on the web too. Imagine how creative they will be in passing money back and forth with a camera recording every move.

crimefile,

Go back to your own blog you police hating liberal. You have lost all credibility here.

A camera on every wall of every alderman’s office. Cameras in the city hall cloak rooms and inside their cars. Do you remember the camera the cleaning crew found in the restaurant booth across the street from city hall.

By the way, are you aware that all these new stations have video cameras and recorders in them. So if something happens in the lock-up it is on disk in living color. But, (is the American Criminal Liberties Union Listening), there are no warning signs about being under surveillance. Now if that tape shows bad guy hitting cop, is it usable in court? If is shows cop hitting bad guy, can OPS use it against the cop? Is the same rule that prevents the department from issuing the media an I-D picture of the cop under investigation extend to city video recordings, is FOP listening?

As long as there's no audio and you aren't in a place where you have a "reasonable expectation of privacy" (like your own home with shades drawn or locker room, or a restroom stall) you don't have to warn anyone...

My own PODS caught me taking $20,000 for a flower pot at 69th & Ashland. And $30,000 for a wrought iron fence at 57 & Racine. These PODS are great. Please let me plea bargain and let me die peacefully in prison Mr. Fitzgerald.

Sorry sonny, but your opinion isn't shared by everyone.

I've been "around the block" a few times, and I not only respect, but agree with Crimefile's opinion most of the time.

At least he's man enough to attach a name, and regular moniker to his rants...unlike SOME people!

The P.C. crowd is again running amuck at the University of Chicago. It seems that a student posted the cartoon of allah (or mohammed?) with the bomb turbin on his head, on the door of his dorm room because he thought it was funny. The lone muslim student living in the dorm was outraged and complained to school officials.

The student was forced to remove it and offer a written apology to the offended muslim student or face discipline or expulsion.

WHAT THE FUCK?..I could see if he posted it on the muslim students door. But it was on his own door. Couldn't the muslim student walk by and use his freedom of choice, to decide NOT to stop and look at it, if he found it offensive.

NO! It's easier to Fuck with the rights of the majority to prevent the MINORITY from having their feelings hurt.

The newspaper had to go the extra mile to get a quote from the muslim student about "HIS OUTRAGE!"

Fuck you Achmed..Why don't you go BURN some shit down or KILL some infidels for your jihadist beliefs?!

There is no such thing as FREE SPEECH on American University Campuses anymore. The radical LEFT has hijacked the educational institutions for the sake of Political correctness (P.C.)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the reason, I think, that Daley and other pols have embraced the idea of surveillance cameras "everywhere", is that 1) they have no solution or understanding as to the nature, extent, and cause of the problem(s) they are trying to solve; 2) they are trying to transform their ignorance of social problems into a politically correct response, in order to insure their re-election. Mnay folks would agree: when it comes to a politician, they have only two ultimate goals in life: 1) to get elected; 2) to stay elected...

The problem is that these pols think that the camera is the answer to everything...I hate to tell them that if nobody watches the cameras it doesn't do anything to prevent crime.

I heard they were going to hire people to watch cameras but I don't think the camera watchers ever materialized.

The PODS have been up so long on the west side with no enforcement the idiot dealers are pitching dope under the PODS.

More knee jerk psudo solutions from the policital idiots we put in office.

According to last night's news, the cameras in 3 locations have been responsible for almost 100 million in fines. Mayor Daley ought to be obsessed. OTOH if P.O.'s were doing their jobs and writing a some tickets like they should be, then the City wouldn't have to resort to cameras. I don't like the invasion of privacy or the automatic ticket but you can't argue with money and/or efficiency.

The People running these lights, will never pay those fines at the full price. Amnesty will come into play, so figure 50 to 25% of that booty for the city. also, bet 40% of them will be in county by the time the fines are due. Ask the dept. of revenue what a pain in the ass it is to collect from parkers given to certain people, or in certain areas.
