Make them give it to you. Merit was built for clout and connected people. Make the city give you one of the legit promotions. Merit isn't going away. Congrats to Marc Leavitt too! A lot of people are DISTURBED by his personality, but that guy is a good, tenacious copper with more dedication to the job than I've seen in just about anyone, who is going to be a very good detective.

If he was merit, he is one of the few that got it on job performance and not pure clout. Not that he has done any one great thing, but his overall attitude and consistency would make him a better candidate than a lot of the people I've seen get a merit promotion!
But if he was going to make it off the list anyway, then it is kind of stupid to take a merit spot from someone else, then again that means one more guy on the list that wouldn't have made it, now will, so I guess it all evens out.

I agree with pieholes. The people that don't study are the ones that cry the most about the merit process and conspiracy theories. I know plenty of people that got promoted by studying hard and making it on their own.
Congrats on all the new dics....be ready for: felony review continually rejecting charges no matter how good the case is, tons of handouts and station assignments, not enough hours in a tour to actually work up a case, limited OT, the same do-nothings from patrol becoming the same do-nothings in the d-unit, etc. Also, better brush up on your writing skills because you will be required to submit a well-written investigative supplemenatry report..remember not everyone will plea out...your investigation as well as the document you submit will be scrutinized by everyone. Word of advise: try to hook up with someone who knows what they are doing, ask to read as many completed investigations as possible (note: some will be far better than others). Finally, don't come to the unit like you know it all....cause you don't. Absorb and learn. All in all, it is the best job on the department. Good Luck!!

Try this on for size: Soon to be detective Isaac Lambert from 004 was in our homeroom class and on the first day when asked by the homeroom instructor about experiences with the police stated the following: "I don't like police officers." Everyone turned around (mouths open of course and because we were all ppo pussies nobody had the nerve to say anything) and just looked at him like what the fuck are you doing here? He proceeded to say that he has been harassed as a citizen by the CPD and wants to change things. Anyone from 94-6C would never forget that and I'm sure could verify.So Det. John was struck and killed on his motorcycle while returning from a benefit the day prior from Indiana for a police officer killed in the line of duty. Does anyone know of a person that was asked to submitt a package to be considered for meritorious detective or seargent without outing that person in any district or unit? Because if people deserve it dont you think the department would do this on the up and up so there wouldnt be any negative talk on who might be meritorious and who actually deserves it? I've never seen it done and it just makes me wonder,never have I seen on any watch the District Commander ask the WC to give him a list of their go getters,good coppers but dont test so good,team players, etc.. so he can put them in for meritorious anything, have you? Maybe thats why guys who actually do study hard and are in the 200-300 of a promotinal list get upset when a meritorious p.o. keeps pushing them back on the list and that p.o. doesnt even know who that person is and what did that person do to merit the promotion. I for one do not believe anyone owes me anything but a fair and plain playing ground Mr. Great Test Taker Supervisor!

WE work in the PUBLIC sector using PUBLIC money. The merit process should be open to PUBLIC scrutiny.
If some PRIVATE citizen wants to run his PRIVATE business into the ground by hiring and promoting his incompetent friends and family then that is his right.
The Chicago Police Dept. on it's face is supposed to be legit. So all you clout bunnies, political hacks, and cocksuckers stop bitching and whinning about the lumps you take here on SCC.

Thanks Phil for sounding off about your son. I know Matt and he's a nice guy and a good policeman. But he's not exceptional. And if he makes Lt, it's because he is in a study group for a test that hasn't been announced and being run by an unnamed senior command staff member. I have some friends in that group and they all have a pedigree. Go to the American Kennel Club web page if you don't understand what a pedigree is Phil. In a conversation with my friends over some beers they refused to tell me what they were studying and who was running it. They said they would be thrown out of the group if they spoke about it. What are they? Masons? They wouldn't even tell me what orders they weren't studying. Come on Phil, does that sound legit. The next time I brought the study group up they said it had been disbanded. Yeah...right. We already have Kings and Princes on this job. The city gangstered merit percentages to take care of them. If you want to make Matt, just making passing 100% on the first part (like the last time) and make him meritorious. But you don't want him walking around with the scarlet letter "M" on his uniform, do you? The last time I saw your son I asked him how the study group was going. He looked like he wanted to shit his pants. You can bash me for patting myself on the back if you want. I really don't give a fuck. good the case is, tons of handouts and station assignments, not enough hours in a tour to actually work up a case, limited OT, the same do-nothings from patrol becoming the same do-nothings in the d-unit, etc. Also, better brush up

- blowing off every case that you won't get box 1 in.
- Working out on duty
- Eating City Wide
- Working 1st watch and sleeping at home. (swiping just forces you to actually show up at the Area).
- Giving the double-team tac team the broke dick bubble chevy when you had NO intention of going out anyway.

Get it? He's not putting you in. He's just the messenger boy. If no one called you and said, "Nephew, my bow, are you done with the packet yet?" Don't waiste your time!

LEAVITT, a real great guy, just ask him, he'll tell you so! Here is a guy who is so dedicated to his job that his old-lady was porking (2) 019th District Tact guys while he was out trying to prove to the world and himself, that he was the best copper in the world. Here is a guy that worked worked a side job at the Jewish Summit that took place in the city. You all remember that event, we all got that special little ribbon and alot of O.T., to thank us for a job well-done. Well this "prick" gets wind of the fact that everybody got a ribbon and he didnt because he was working the event with a private security firm. So, he has the Chicago Jewish Police Organization write a letter demanding that he recieve his ribbon and he got it!! WTF. This guy has had more partners than a Supt. Cline has rolls of fat on his stomach. Yeah it gets better, had hugh CR# for stalking his ex-girlfriend who was a nurse at St.Francis and a Federal law suit for sexual harassment of another P.O.. That one is still in civil litigation. Demanded to be put in for merit Detective, even though he is another 125 out on the list. When assigned to Narcotics Unit would drive around off-duty in his company car and make arrests for dope. Wow what a dedicated "whack job!" Had himself put in for a ribbon for having the most arrest in 024th District. The most arrest!!, this "prick" would drive around with his ultra top-secret juvenile warrant list and knock on the door for "junior". No foot chases, no street level crime, no UUW, just his secret warrant list. For the last Detective Exam, he took (11) days off work to study prior to the exam and missed by (1) spot. Thats fucking beautiful. He back stabbed a copper who ran the security gig at Waveland Bowl, convinced the owner he would be better at the job and then fired the copper who got him the job there in the first place. A side note to that is that this guy (now a Det) is in Iraq,and the 8th day "in-country" and I.E.D. explodes next to his Hummer convoy. (2) guys KIA, and he takes shrapnel in legs and 3rd degree burns. Didnt bitch and moan like M.L. went right back and is still there. So before you preach to the masses on how great a person is, you should know what you are talking about. Good luck Area 3.

HMMMMMMM, it sounds like someone knows some intimate details of that MADE UP story about SULLINS in Iraq. I worked with the both of them at the sidejob, SULLINS got fired for leaving LEAVITT and another Police Officer alone during a big fight that broke out, and wouldn t answer his radio when they were calling for help, cause he was sleeping(like he's done 100's of times before for our fellow officers) (lets get our facts straight here). Then SULLINS wanted all the other Police officers there to quit their $30 an hour side job in protest of him getting fired, guess what GOOF, we re all still there(and Happier), what does that tell you..Thank GOD you re in SVU now, our streets are safer with you off of them, although I can t say the same for our kids.

I had a job about 8 or 9 years ago where a state trooper committed suicide on his back porch (shot himself) while his family was home. There were all kinds bosses from CPD & ISP there, dicks, crime lab, the whole deal. In the middle of it I walk out front to my car and there is Sullins walking out the front door with the dead coppers guns. I ask him what he's doing and he says that if he doesn't get them the tact team will. I tell him that's bullshit and he says that "the boss" told him to take them. I'm supposed to believe that the ADS or WC walked up to Sullins, who had nothing to do with the job, and told him to take the guys guns and inventory them? What a piece of shit, taking a dead cop's guns for a turn in.

I too can hangout at the 7-11 all day, never respond to calls, let the other Sgts. handle my jobs, disappear for eight hours at a crack, say I'm at jobs when I really not,etc.,etc. If it works for him, why can't it work for me too? I know about that sexual harrassment CR. Isn't that the one with Ann McDermott from 017, originally from 024 when she got a CR on the Commander, Watch Commander, Tact.Lt, 2 Sgt's from the watch, 2 Sgt's from tact., and a dozen tact officers, including one that took a two day suspension. Then she goes to 017 and gets a blanket CR on the entire tact and gang Teams over there. Without mentioning any names the Officer that took the two days was Man Enough to fess up to it. But McDermott who came into work DRUNK like she usually did blamed Leavitt because they got into an argument the same morning the Flyer mysteriously appeared. Leavitt who covered for McDermott on the sheets because her DRUNK ass was two hours late for work. Ask any one on the 2463 Team who all had the same story to IAD, including Leavitt, EXCEPT for her partner(a/3 Detective) who changed his story and jackpotted the OFFICER who did take the two days, ask him. I wonder who that A/3 Detective is that nobody wants to work with because everyone found out that HE backstabbed the SUSPENDED Officer. Once again I was on that CR, FACTS, unlike the PREVIOUS POST. OHHHHHHHHH, by the way I believe McDermott did the same thing at her last job, the Chicago Park District in order to make money off them too, interesting. And I DON'T believe Leavitt or the SUSPENDED Officer was in 017 when she got there and got a Blanket CR on the entire Tact and Gang Team there for the SAME thing.Interesting.

I have an Ed Sullins story. What a goof! Many years ago in 024, a Lt. was in Walgreen's buying batteries for his Mag-lite when all of a sudden he sees some Walgreens employees chasing a shithead for shoplifting. The Lt. gets involved and calls in the chase. A few seconds later, a bunch of us showed up and the situation was under control. Some of us stuck around to shoot the shit on the sidewalk when we saw a squadcar with the lights and sirens blaring, driving on the wrong side of the street on Western. Lo and behold, it was Sullins (who got assigned the job because it was his beat) 15-20 minutes after the slowdown was called. He jumps out of the driver's seat, exits the squad, leaving the door open. He runs up to the few of us left and yells "What happened?!" We all pointed at his squadcar and I said, "Hey idiot, look at your car." The goof had put his car in reverse instead of park. We all laughed as we watched this numb-nut chasing his car on Western. Because he was such a hard-charger and too cool to close his door, the door clipped a parked car, hyper-extended and wouldn't close. He finally got inside the car and asked us what he should do. We left him there. GOOF!!! By the way, that goof did get fired from Waveland Bowl (I occasionally work there) by the owner because he was tired of his shit, not because of Leavitt. That idiot had the balls to clock in, leave for 3-4 hours and come back to clock out. Unfortunately for the goof, the owner was waiting for him one day, because he was privy to Sullins' nonsense, not from Leavitt, but from the non-police employees there. The owner then gave Marc Leavitt his spot as head of security. Sullins then called me and several other coppers to quit in protest of his firing. I'm still there... I'm not a regular on this site. As a matter of fact, this is the first time I heard of this site and it took a couple of days to find it. But I'm on this site because I heard of all the bullshit that was being said about Marc Leavitt. I know Marc and believe me he works his ass off. Some of that stuff about coming to work early is true. It's something that I would never do, along with just about everyone on this blog. But it just goes to show how dedicated he is. I'm not blowing smoke up his ass, but as for someone who knows his job, he's the guy Detectives ask for if they need info on a shithead. They don't ask me. I don't consider myself a dog, but for me, I could care less who's who on the street. I don't make it a point to know who a jag-off is, Marc does and we need more coppers like him. Hey guys, I appreciate all the defending of my Police Work, but let it go. I was not aware of some of the things being said of me on this blog until earlier today. As we all are well aware, the working copper gets shit on from time to time. I have always defended coppers in CR's and on the street and I will continue to do so. I have handled the bullshit and the big arrest cases, so the guys that know me know I am a good copper. Remember, even when you guys are not sure how to handle shit on the street, call me.
