- Chicago Police Officer Al O'Connor has been nominated for the Americas Most Wanted- All Star Award.He is asking for your assistance by voting for him in this event by visiting and voting for him at this site.Please do not respond to this email. Sent per the authority of the Bureau of Patrol.
It's addressed to EVERYONE and it even has the link in it that WE posted back on 14 April. We're trying to decide which is the most shocking:
- The fact that someone high up in the Bureau of Patrol might be reading the blog and is stealing our material.
- The fact that this appears to be a little bit of misuse of Department authorized e-mail.
- The fact that someone is willing to e-mail this to every single member and boss with a Department e-mail or Blackberry, AND WE STILL CAN'T GET A SINGLE BOSS to say that awarding a street sign to a convicted felon who advocated killing police officers is WRONG (by boss we mean exempt and we mean publically for the media).

One of the other Alllstar Nominees is Nevada State Trooper Bobby Kintzel.
He was ran down @ 90 mph as he was laying down spike strips. In a coma for some time, pulled out of it, had numerous surgeries including removal of part of his brain.

Since we already have outside roll calls, have the relief officers give the oncoming crew the cars on the hour, and do away with the formal roll call. This way rather than hold jobs til they hit the street, the oncoming cars get the jobs immediately and there is no back log. Supv.'s can give out court notifications when they log their cars.

Officer Rappaport was NOT Officer Gilhooly's partner. It just happened that Officer Gilhooly's partner was off that night, hence Officer Rappaport filling in.
1969 was a rotten year for the Gilhooly family. Their grandmother passed away before a month before Officer Gilhooly was killed.
Grandpa Gilhooly, CPD, was devasted and moved in with the family after this happened. He was retired CPD and took up an art class so he could sketch Officer Gilhooly's tombstone. There's a draw full of them and he has since passed away.
The people that are truly having to go back to 1969 are Officer Gilhooly's sister and brother.
Imagine how Gilhooly's partner feels or the Rappaport family.

The young man responded by shooting him in the arm 3-times.
Officer Knox was only 21 years old. Partially paralyzed in his arm.

The CPD told that he could not make Sgt. because of his arm, after he passed testing.
CPD #2749 TERRENCE KNOX left in 1977.
Joseph Pannell, the "young man" who shot him, is a Black Panther and was captured in Canada several months ago.

I would not want the position and I have had a similar positition in the real world, North American sales manager for a international company.
Sometimes you have to do thing you dont want to do because of politics or for the betterment of the company. It sucks and I would never do it again. Compromising your principals and honor just for a job is a very hard road.

First of all about the thing in 008. As someone who once logged several months at "call back", I can tell you that if the job was dispatched from 311, it is stacked in the beat cars list. 311 is for non-priority jobs. I'm not saying it wasn't a priority, but that's how it works. If the beat car was down on something, then the job waits for them to come clear, unless the district is close to going into a backlog. Then it gets dispatched to a response car. It's the call takers fault, not the guys working the street.
Second, to the guy who said they can take D2A away from you, you are correct. Now name 1 Detective that's been involuntarily reduced in the last 15 years? Can't, can you? I've known some serious fuck ups that the city has gone after and every one of them won their grievance. Even that broad who ignored a bank robbery at the branch in the grocery store, while she was in the check out line and working, got her job back. No supervisor is going to go through the amount of counseling and paperwork it does to get someone reduced. It probably should happen, but it doesn't.

My partner and me were the first car on the scene of that crash. She is an absolute hero.
She almost dies trying to help another police officer calling for help and the department says it can’t help because of some administrative BS? They should have made her meritorious detective. I lost track of her and it is great to hear she is doing better.

About the PPO from 011 that was in the accident.
I was at the scene of another horrific car crash in 011 which involved a squad car. We arrive on the scene and there are 6 bodies lying in the street, all ejected from a SUV with a drunk driver.
The two coppers are pinned in their vehicle. Then Lt. Risley and then Sgt. Kulbida both almost died.
Now look at how the department treated them compared to PPO P.M.
Kulbida gets promoted up to Captain and Risley gets promoted up to Deputy Supt. I am not saying they did not deserve their promotions but why treat the PPO so differently. I am not going to suggest it is because they both had powerful relatives on the job because they are both good police officers. But the way you judge a department or any organization is by how they treat their most powerless.
The treatment of this PPO makes the Chicago Police Department look very, very bad.

ALRIGHT 008 bashers... just some basic facts. 008 is 4 times larger than 007, has 3 times as many people than 007 but has 36 less officers than 007. Now that is just 007, we can do this to all the southside districts and have similar #s. 008 is in back log daily from noon till midnight and often handles 20+ jobs on 3rd watch per car. 008 still leads the city in service calls yearly and is in the top 3 in all activity stats citywide. The 10 sector in 008 often has to go east into the 20 sector and our tact/gangs are get this... NOT ALLOWED WEST OF PULASKI for patrol purposes. I live/work in 008 and get pissed about stories like the Normandy park thing but understand, no cars up = nobody to respond. This may not be the fault of those working in 008 but instead the bosses that believe 008 needs no help (we get recruits instead of POs on transfer). The fine citizens of the west-end were supposed to march and demand the police services the tax base deserves but that didn't happen so maybe place the blame there. You 008th district residents that are POs maybe need to get more active in making the change, DEMAND we get the same level of police service those east of Western get. Maybe Daley could get us to the 13,000 manpower we are suposed to be at instead of 9,700. Until then expect the same.... Sad but true
If you don't believe the above listed post go work TARA there, I did and never agian! We had 23 jobs, no personals, no lunch and were in a RAP from 1600- 2320. Do yourself a favor and work CHA on your days off, I don't get that many calls in a week in 012!

Do you even have a clue how much experience there is in 016? I would say over 75% of the people here worked other places for years. Lots of guys from Narcotics, SOS, B&A, 011,015,014,010. Not trained there for a year and transferred to 016 I am talking 28 of their 30 years somewhere busy.
Someday you will realize that you aren't making a fucking difference in the ghetto. You will probably bid to the district you live in, enjoy the 10 minute commute, and actually protect your own property all day. The only two problems I see on a daily basis are 1. This place is just too fucking big. Most people don't go home for lunch because it's too far. Seriously. 2. We have no manpower. Hardly any rapids up on days, no traffic car, no gang teams (they are detailed out) Too many one man cars on afternoons and hardly any rapids, and few cars actually manned on midnights.
Call for help, your backup is far far away. Call the police. With blue lights it can take up to 15 minutes to get there. The troops are frustrated, the citizens are frustrated, the dispatchers are frustrated and the whole place sucks. The only ones who don't seem to care are the bosses. Who continue to put 1 man cars up on afternoons and midnights. Pretty bad if you call for help and your backup is coming from 30 blocks away. How many people are detailed out? 50 or more I think.
When someone gets hurt, maybe someone will do something.
The bosses can't put up 2 man cars if they don't have 2 men right? they still try to give time due right? the bottom line is you make due with what you have, evry district and units are short. The coppers in 016, 008, 022 better know that when they call they better be prepared to handle it themselves until the troops arrive or don't get involved other than calling 911 unless it's just unavoidable........
For people who cannot comprehend how huge 016 is maybe this might help a little. It is 30.4 sq.miles, borders 10 different suburbs, and is heavily populated with the condo boom also occurring.Wait let me try to put it this way, if you were to cut the 016 district away from the city of chicago it would then become the second largest city in Illinois after chicago topping waukegan,springfield,aurora,etc...Not trying to make excuses for anyone just trying to paint a picture of how huge this place really is.
Maybe if they weren't playing hanky panky with their partners they'd get more done.
