$7.5 Million for Traffic Cops

  • Defying Mayor Daley, a joint City Council committee agreed today to spend $7.5 million generated by red light cameras to hire 100 more police officers to enforce the city's traffic laws.
We wrote about this before (post #1, post #2) and we think we suggested making a traffic task force. Traffic is notoriously understaffed and the radar equipment is out of date and functions poorly. Deputy Chief of Patrol McCotter says it's only 2 officers per district (we think it's 4), but if they're part of a task force (like TRU), they can saturate problem areas, do sweeps for improperly licensed vehicles, and hammer hot spots, DUI's, and seatbelt enforcement. We offered this up as an idea someone could steal and get promoted from - is anyone taking us up on the offer?

The Radar equipment is new. New radars, lasers. etc. The problem is no manpower in Traffic Enforcement. they even have them on the Harleys. Get some people in the unit.pdbnrwcs

Just what we need another "Special Unit" of prima donnas, what about somebody to answer the "F"ing calls
break up the street disturbances, seperate the battling domestics..........can't get any money out of that. so lets crete a Unit to pour all kinds of money into the city coffers, so that their politically connected pals can get their no bid contracts. What the "F", when will this department get back to basic police work.

This is a very cute precursor to civilian mover writers.

The council will convene and come to "an argreement": Cops are too expensive. The TMA's are doing a great job, let's hire "Super TMA's" and bless them with the ability to enforce the IVC.

All at a fraction of the cost!

Just what is Deputy Chief Michael McCotter a Deputy Chief of?

McCotter is the Deputy Chief of Patrol Division Administration, he is a cops cops from the word go period! A stand up guy if ever there was one, he is the real police and looks out for the workers as the #2 guy under Charley Williams, I worked For Mike McCotter, you didn't work for him, you worked with him. We are lucky to have him in that position.

I agree, he's probably the best exempt we have. A cop's cop. No over inflated ego, hasn't forgotten where he came from or that we all started as blue shirts, a great motivator, the list goes on and on. Thank God he stayed in Patrol.

McCotter's a great boss. He manages to be the kind of boss that balances always being around but, not getting into your business. He takes care of his guys and goes above and beyond to help you if you have a problem. I hope he makes Super some day. Maybe we'll finally have a real cop, and some sanity, at the top spot.

Yeah, he takes care of HIS guys and to hell with the rest. Great boss (sarcasm, dunderheads).

Yeah, I really hope he becomes Super too. He sounds Super.

Great math skills for instance. Publicly quoted as saying 100/25 = 2. A role model for Democrats everywhere.

Also quoted as saying that assigning 100 new hires to a particular function would be bad because POs should be available for prioritized emergency calls. He'll be getting right on the thousands who currently don't do anything remotely resembling police work, right?

He might be a nice guy, and a good drinking buddy who won't hurt people. But if the quotes in the article are any indication, this guy thinks as well as Hillard spoke and Cline diets.

I dont know the guy but I'm guessing that his fuzzy math skills take into account we have three watches. That would be 1.25 per district per watch. So I assume he was eliminating 1st watch from the equation, thus 2 per district per watch.

What a douche bag, already trying to bash someone you obviously don't know and never had the honor or priviledge of working for/with, go back to your cubby hole and shut the fuck up,you obviously have no idea what a good boss is....

11:39, I like my maid. Does that mean she will make a good superintendent too?

The fact that you want to give someone a blowjob does not mean that they would be a good person to run an organization with 13.5K officers on the books, plus countless civilians.

The fact that you can't do basic math at a kindergarden level is probably a good indicator that you would, in fact, not be a good person to run such an organization.

The fact that you think being a nice guy means someone would be a good leader for the organization tells me you probably give good blowjobs.

You have purty lips.

To the other poster, he never got crs at the drop of a hat, it's complete and utter bullshit..

I'm all for hiring 100 more coppers. That leaves us just shy of 3,400 short at current head count.

Dick Daley needs to make a traffic court north , central(current bldg) and south. Put a traffic court close to home, I don't have to "battle" traffic and pull teeth for a parking spot and I'll write movers up the ying yang.

Several blogs ago somebody wanted to know what the names were of the guys that murdered off duty cpd John Matthews. The pieces of S@@ts names are Dean Chavez, Ralph Gabriel and Tony Chavez.

Info from the 20 Jun 06 FOP meeting:

TMAs are coming to the traffic unit, just to write parkers for the moment. However there might be a plan in the works to assign TMAs to all police districts. Enjoy having them in your station and locker rooms.

Barak OBama will be the guest speaker at the FOP Conference held here in Chicago next month. There are still plenty of tickets for the White Sux v Reds game (98 bucks, in a suite, all the booze you can cram down your pie hole, park at 35 & Mich).

16 Jul paycheck will reflect a different take out amount for health care; so don’t be surprised if your check is a lot smaller.

For those of you living paycheck to paycheck, the Dept. has 20 trained members that have been trained to train others about financial management for us.

The city’s chief financial officer, who is going around telling everyone that our pension fund is failing, still hasn’t sat down with our pension board!? WTF
State Statute controls our pension so any changes must be made in Springfield. There is no loss to members, yet.

If you have made any payments for eye exams or glasses keep your receipts as the Union and the city are back to square one on vision arb. The city and union were told by the arbitrator to go back and negotiate. If there is no agreement between the city and the union then the arbitrator will pick a plan either the city’s or ours.

34 coppers on active duty, 20 of them on foreign soil. Keep them in your prayers.

If you have on of those second chance vest and still haven’t signed up for the settlement, you still can. Those who have received vouchers can only use them at one retailer. So if you use part of it at one retailer you can’t go to a different retailer to spend any amounts not used at that retailer. Check with the union for a retailer who carries all of the merchandise that is ok for purchase with the voucher.

2:03, 025 is and has for 30 years been the armpit of the department. The day that anybody from a unit other than 025 takes one word of "advice" or "guidance" from anyone in 025, is the day hell freezes over. There are quite a few decent POs there, but history speaks for itself with the shit morons in your unit have gotten into.

A good boss keeps his people out of trouble while getting a job done. No lieutentant or commander in 025 for any significant period of time has ever succeeded in keeping the numerous morons, apparently you included, from stepping on their own dicks with steel spikes. So please take your "good boss" bullshit and send it to a cellblock where numerous of your former coworkers can use it as a marital aid.

A good boss keeps people out of trouble. Its not about being nice, and not about failing to reprimand underlings for small things only to see them smear the entire department by fucking up big things. Standard advice for a lot of recruits for more than 20 years has been... if you are sent to 025 for training, get the fuck out as quickly as possible any way you can. And don't take any "advice" from the existing members there away with you.

Your failure to distinguish between "nice guy" and "good boss" is a large part of the reason that the district is so fucked. What you guys need is the meanest fucking boss ever to go in there and start kicking your asses. Maybe things would turn around if they cleared the entire district out and started over.

But a popularity contest? Go back to grade school if you just want a nice boss to be nice to you. Now tell me a story about the real 25th district po-leece. Bwaaaahaaaahaaaahaaaa.

When they opened 025 the commanders in the adjacent existing districts dumped most of the assholes from those districts. No big deal, it's how they fill the new districts. Layered on top of that mess was the fact that every outfit greaseball bid in as well. The Area was outfit-lock, stock, and barrel. Ask Sesso what happended after he showed his lieutenant the positive ID of Harry Aleman in the Billy Logan murder. The above poster has it right. Send in a tough, fair boss. Dump the outfit snitches (probably won't happen since they got their puppet inside the mayors office).

SERIOUS OPEN LETTER to Michael McCOTTER, Phil Cline, Dana STARKS and Charles WILLIAMS....First of all....Morale is in the toilet...You all walk around reaping the rewards of the hard working patrolmen/patrolwomen of the Chicago police department for killing crime but you don't give them any reward...For get the 100 police officers for traffic control...are you kidding me?? Tell the city council to purchase radars for the patrol cars...they are a nifty new invention that catches speeders and in turn you generate revenue for the city of Chicago which in turn can be used to pay for more officers, better equipment etc...If we had just (3) three radar units per district...(75) total ...they would generate plenty of revenue to help support additional programs for US,THE POLICE....NOT PARKS OR BRIDGES... Put those 100 cops ...if they get approved...in districts...we are very very depleted there and you are putting our safety in danger by not filling those spots.Secondly...Kill the event #'s bullshit...event #'s don't kill crime....and let your officers be police officers...stop holding them back...you have decreased crime because of agressive officers...NOT because of contact cards and event #'s...You all need to let these officers do their job and sit back and be proud of them....period. I have heard that officers in the 12th. district are still doing "humpers"?? You all need to call the commander there and kill that too...that's nonsense...I thought that was a thing of the past that Maurer got rid of??? We need REAL WORKING COMPUTERS in our cars!!! when is this going to happen?? we are the third largest city in America with a subpar equipped police department...why is that??We just kinda got 1 helicopter....about time...we should have had them Looooooong time ago... I do applaud Phil Cline for some of the new cars...they are cool and its nice to see so many of them on the streets but we really need to get it together...This city is in for a HUGE Shock one day when we God forbid ever get hit with a terrorist act....we will be fucked...plain and simple...you know mit and so do we...but the poor citizens don't...they THINK we can handle it....HA,HA,HA...we have NO training and have NO unit to handle such a thing...because we are building friggin bridges and parks and planting flowers!!!! When Osama's boys come calling...we can throw sod at them...lets get it together guys...we need to become advanced..we need training...we need equipment...we need a plan!! Hell..we don't even have a simple gas mask!! how the hell are we going to respond to a terrorist act without gas masks when half or 3/4 of your department is sick, dead etc...beacuse they have no gas mask to prevent them form getting sick??? WOW....we, are NOT a first class organization whatsoever....but we sure as hell make you guys look good don't we?? and you don't give a shit. Thanks.. go water the flowers .

7 million fjor traffic coppers?
Hell, rent them a squad car on a daily basis, swear them in a non paid special police, send them out on their own and split the take with them.
Instead of spending 7 mil. the city will be making millions.
