Evaluating the First Day

Well, a little more than 24 hours into a our new and fully moderated comments, we must say that our workload has definitely shifted back to where we can enjoy the blog and not worry about what some tiny brains are posting in the comments sections. We have actually only deleted about 10% of the comments in the holding tank before posting the remainder as opposed to having to weed out over 75% of the comments posted in the unrestricted mode. Readers seem to be staying on topic for the most part and those that don't stay on topic aren't so obnoxious that we delete them out of hand - we actually post them anyway!

We even feel a bit more comfortable leaving the posts open for more than two days at a time since we can sift through an entire half days worth of comments in about 10 minutes and spend the rest of the time looking for more nonsense to post.

We even managed to shed the asswipe that constantly accused us of racism for leaving comments up while we were out earning a living and spending time with the family. Now we can spend all the time we want with the family, drink with friends, go golfing and cheering for various lost causes (Blackhawks) and not dread having to go back and sort through a pile of BS that has been festering all day long.

Is Matt Rodriguez still working as a states attorney investigator even though he's mobbed up? Helped a friend (Frank Milito) get away with killing a person? Are the feds investigating him?

As a child the family radio was our entertainment. I watch in awe as I saw airplanes in the sky. I endured the childhood pains of watching my parents try to feed us during the depression. I was side by side brave men in the theater of war in W.W. II. I also watched many of the men I was with slaughtered in unbelievable ways. I was on one of the beaches on D-day. I wadded through the red bloody waters to make it to shore. I crawled over bodies and body parts to find a place to avoid joining the many dead bodies that were behind me. I ended up with lead and shrapnel in me before I left that beach. After the war and my recovery I entered the most wonderful and greatest job, a Chicago police officer. We had no bullet proof vests, no hand held radios, no semiautomatic handguns and many of us didn't even have squad cars. But we always had each other.

As my days on this planet become ever so smaller I do look back over all those years.

I have asked myself many of times, if all those people I knew that gave their lives or were disabled throughout the many wars and conflicts for our Country, all those officers that gave the sacrifice of life or were disabled while protecting our City, all those firefighters who died or were severely injured fighting fires and saving lives, if they knew what this Country was going to be like now, would they have given what they gave to save it? My combat years, my police years and my parenting years have long since passed. Now in my 80's I have time to look back with firsthand knowledge of where we were and where we have come to.

I watched the Government take so much away from true heroes of this Country. From veterans, firefighters and police officers. While using money taken from these same peoples' paychecks to subsidize people who won't work, people who give the miracle of birth and have no regards as to how that child turns out, to people who hate our country and so many more worthless members of this society.

They talk about men marrying men, to giving homosexual partners health and life insurance but those same agencies have taken health care away from the retired officers and firefighters who have done nothing but given their spirit and self to help others.

Somewhere during my lifetime the tables turned. Political Correctness bans another from actually saying something is bad or wrong. Which prevents many in power to address any problems because they can't say they are problems.

As I wait open hearted to meet my maker, I remember the following quote, "Some men see things as they are and say why. I dream things that never were and say, why not."

One day before I go I hope to see an elected official that believes in this and tells it like it is. And maybe address the many bad turns we have all taken during my life time. Soon, somebody will either have to put a foot down or we might all just be with our maker sooner than you think.

I thank my grandson for typing this.

God bless all of you who are truly out there each and everyday helping to make this world a better place.

(This is another one of those posts where we are responding to a comment that'll never see the light of day)

To the individual complaining about us restricting "Freedom of Speech," go read your Constitution. It says "Congress shall make no law [...] abridging the freedom of speech.

We don't happen to be Congress. We are a private entity therefore we make the rules. You are still welcome to start your own blog and post whatever you want on it - we aren't stopping you. Neither is Congress. Go! Exercise your Constitutionally protected rights. But do it somewhere else. This is our show and our rules.

The vest they sold me 6 months ago is from "Force One," if that helps. You can look up the company, etc.

That's one of the best posts I've seen on here! You hit it all right on the head! Thanks of saying what needs to be truthfully addressed.
Police Officers have become throw away cops here.

And more importantly, thank you for serving our country.

I was looking for a new vest in March but all of the reps that I checked with (second chance, point blank, etc.) told me that it would take 3-4 months to get my new vest. This was mainly because of the demand created by the military. I heard that some guys were buying Force One brand vests at Nate's but I was skeptical. I contacted the company and asked if they had any distributors in the Chicago area and Nate's was one of the names they gave me. Force One told me that they ship him vests in several sizes and that I should go into the store and try some on. I was able to walk into Nate's and and find one that fit well and took it home the same day. He also included a custom vest cover in the price (around $500). If you're still skeptical, google Force One and research it yourself. Hope the info helps out.

Dear Old Timer,

After burring both my father (WW II vet) and my father-in-law (Korean War vet), I will promise you that, even though there are many Americans out there that preach giving in to those that would destroy the very soul of this great country in the name of political correctness or world peace (surrender to those who wish to destroy western life), they will not prevail. Quiet as we are, we will not let the forces of the unholy to concur this great land and give away the promised future of this world.

"Old Timer",

I can't thank you enough for your sacrifices, for our country & for our city. Your words are so very true! We better band together soon as a country & as ONE Police Department. We need to put away the B.S. that 016 sucks, 022 blows, SOS & TRU is clout. We are all working towards the same goal: Back-up each other, do a honorable job and go home at the end of the tour. We have too many people against us, we should at least be there for each other!

Old Timer

You and so many others like yourself are the backbone and reason for the true meaning

"God Bless America."

Our voices may have been made smaller silenced by the turning of tides but trust in our strides.

Our muffled voices will call to Arms.

Our voices will carry You America to Pride.

Our voices will not let you Fade nor die in vain.

Our voices ring true you are the reason for the Pride.

God Bless You and America!

To Old Timer:
Dear Sir:

I posted my poem this past Veteran's day to thank our Vets. I salute you my friend and thank you for giving my family and friends the freedom we all enjoy.

Walking through the park today
The sun was set out west
He asked if he could share my bench
He needed to take a rest

I asked him what brought him out
On such sultry day
He said he often sits alone
And thinks of friends, and prays

He prays for friends who fought in war
The souls he left behind
Young, brave, courageous and true
They fought for all mankind

But as he rose to leave that bench
I stood to shake his hand
I thanked him for the life I have
And the freedom in our land

So if you’re at a parade this day
Have fun but don’t forget
The price that was paid for our liberty
For this you can thank a vet.
