Mary Mitchell Does it Again

Reading her claptrap so YOU don't have to - all part of our service.

It is always amazing that a human being can be so clueless and so ignorant and still make it to adulthood while landing a decent paying job. She writes today:
  • What is it going to take before the Chicago Police Department realizes that a lot of black people are fed up? And when will the aldermen open their eyes and see that many of their constituents are sitting on a powder keg? This is true not just because a 14-year-old boy from Cabrini-Green was critically injured when he allegedly pointed a replica of a 9mm Smith & Wesson at officers.

But because too many people are complaining about being mistreated by police officers.

Last time we checked, complaints against the police were down. Down significantly. Because people are unwilling to sign a piece of paper attesting under oath that certain events happened the way they claim they happened. Of course, to Mary and her ilk, one complaint would be "too many" as the police are supposed to stand idly by with feather dusters instead of guns and sticks while kids with fake guns stick up citizens.
  • People will argue amongst themselves about whether the Cabrini-Green teen brought the shooting on himself since BB guns are illegal in Illinois.

Some of them will blame the boy's parents for not knowing he had the fake gun. Others will blame the cops for shooting first and asking questions later, even though police have been killed by gun-toting teens.

Unfortunately, a lot of black people are more willing to believe that a white cop would shoot an unarmed black kid than they are willing to listen to the cop's side of the story.

People with an ounce of sense who bother to acquaint themselves with Illinois Law won't be arguing among themselves. And people who take the effort to raise their children with the proper respect for guns, other people's property, the police and the illegality of doing stickups won't be arguing either. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to cover a lot of the Cabrini families, what with dad's 33 arrests for various felonies and misdemeanors. As to what black people are willing to believe, they still believe that the CIA introduced crack into the ghetto, AIDS was introduced into this country by the government and anything coming out of Farrakhan's and Jesse's mouth. Why is that?
  • There is a good reason for black people not to trust the cops.

Even people who have never had a run-in with police know there is something terribly wrong when hundreds of black suspects are tortured into giving false confessions, and the man primarily responsible for those tortures is rewarded with a fat pension and time to spend cruising in a boat called "Vigilante."

Even people who have never seen the inside of a jail and couldn't care less when drug dealers and gang-bangers are locked up know that something ought to have been done about Jon Burge and his posse.

Hundreds? You exaggerate again Mary. There were less than a dozen cases that had any sort of sustainability in a court of law. And for those, the statute of limitations ran out. We think we may have just found one of the reasons black people seem to believe a lot of otherwise completely bat-shit insane theories everyone else dismissed years ago - you (and others) keep repeating it as if it were true.
  • Because the city did nothing to stop this racist cop back then, and because the law says it's too late to do anything about him now -- we shouldn't be surprised that a growing number of citizens in black communities are complaining.
Then change the law Mary. We are a nation of laws. You don't like it, change the law. Or move. It's still a free country.
  • A reader called me a week ago about a scene she witnessed at 15th & Homan on the West Side, where a squad car was involved in an auto accident.

"The people ran out of their houses, and one guy got the policeman out of the car. It was amazing to see how people pulled together," the reader said.

"Other squad cars showed up and the street was taped off. A female officer told me if I didn't get away from my car, I was going to be arrested. The way they treated those people was so rude. These were the same people that got the cop out of his car. Instead of being rude, they really needed to give those people a block party."

We had a bunch of readers contact us, too Mary. And for some reason, we hear that there is still a bunch of Police Department equipment and officer's personal property missing from the scene of the accident. Why would that be? Please explain?

The rest of the article is equally as lame, bringing up the incident on 015, which of course is an on going investigation and hasn't even come to a conclusion yet. No one knows anything yet, but Mary has already passed judgment on the whole incident and found the white officers guilty of spreading dissent and ill-will. Only a reporter could equate what Jon Burge was accused of doing to restrained prisoners to an officer exercising his rights and his duty to use deadly force to protect his life or the life of another. What an ignorant and lazy piece of writing. But again, we think we've discovered ONE of the reasons the African American community continues to believe every single conspiracy theory that comes down the pike.

Look in the Mirror Mary.

To our readers - Notice in the above rip job, we never once used bad language ("bat-shit insane" doesn't count), insensitive remarks or attacked any person based on race, gender or creed. As moderated comments are on, no one else will either. If you post a comment, it better make sense and it damn well better not have even a hint of what we avoided. What actually happened in the 015th District on Sunday?? Please respond if you were "on the scene" not via the media or gossip.
Also, is this why Cline took the extremely nice commander (Daniel Alvarado) from erps and sent him to run the caps unit on 35th Street replacing him with someone name Harry Holmes?? Who's Harry???

To Mary Mitchell,
If the 14 year old's mother was doing what she was suppose to do the kid would have never been shot. This mother has had the streets raise her kid because shewas lazy and a bad parent.

How many armed robberies will the Detectives clear on this kid.

Mary Mitchell is racist. Theres no question about it. I'm not flinging insults just telling truths. The things I find amusing about this whole deal: Momma stating "they didn't have to shoot him that many times." How many should we have momma? Cline should have jumped right up and said, "we train our officers to shoot until the threat is neutralized. end of story." Cabrini residents are fed up. So move. Oh sorry you cant afford to give up the free heat, rent, SSI, welfare checks among the other 47 things the democrats have given you. "They just tryin to move us out of Cabrini, this is prime property." Yes in actuality Daley does want u out. H'ed like to trade your project for some tax paying, money earning residents who can afford a half million dollar home. By the way, the property aint prime until they demolish the shit smelling, piss stained, graffiti lined walls of the free housing you have been given. It becomes prime when its leveled. Other than that, back sir!

The best quote from Mark Brown from the Sun-Times. I am not a fan of his but this is classic. Thursday Aug 10 "The Model 93 is supposed to look like a Smith and Wesson semi-automatic pistol. Young Woodland could testify to its effectiveness in that regard-IF HE RECOVERS." That is just PRICELESS.

Mary Mary, quite contrary, grew up in public housing and moved to the burbs (Maywood) as soon as she could. Like many suburban libs- white or black- she has no concept of real life in the jets or the ghetto. She has no concept of the lack of all respect for life. She has... Why bother. Typical suburbanite pandering to an audience.

I wonder what her opinion would be if she were to be victimized in her precious "hood" as she refers to it.

Why is this columnist advocating violence and racism?

I saw a picture of the gun and the officer had a split moment to make a decision.

This is the same columnist who was on tv talking about Meeks and the N-word. How it's quite alright for black folks to use it, but not others!

Many times, I have seen the actions of Chicago Police and it's actually stunned me. They ARE quite tolerant of behavior toward them when suburb police would automatically lock them up if they were threatened in such a manner. This tells me they gets this treatment a LOT.

Chicago is a diverse city yet we get people such as this person making statements inflicting the emotions of communities who the only thing they know is violence.

Perhaps our city should adopt some laws in Florida. Public housing there has laws that if you pretty much associate yourself with a felon, or someone in the commission of or breaking a crime, you lose your housing!!!! Also, if you use a gun to break the law, the 3rd time you automatically go to prison!! Yep.

The officers here don't have respect. It's so evident. Once in awhile, I'll throw a wave hello, or if passing an officer say "good morning," and the look on their faces is of shock, then they drop their guard and the hardness cracks away a bit.

Quite frankly, I'm so sick of adding officers names on our little police memorial on a daily basis because someone stuck a gun at them, parents who refuse to be involved in their children's lives and take responsibility, and by ignorant people making stupid, racist comments and pushing violence.

Much thanks to our Mayor and Supt. Cline for having backbone and taking a stand for what's best in our community, and to the officer in yesterday's newspaper who showed grace under fire and pure professionalism.

Mary: "Unfortunately, a lot of black people are more willing to believe that a white cop would shoot an unarmed black kid than they are willing to listen to the cop's side of the story."

Mary, let's remember that no one is saying that junior was NOT armed with a BB gun, even his family hasn't denied this bit o' evidence. But junior was NOT unarmed. He attempted to rob some other person with a replica handgun. Nice try on attempting to cloud the issue.

Again, Mary BS: "My fear is that one day, it won't matter whether the police were justified in using deadly force, because no matter what the police brass says, citizens aren't going to believe them."

Why believe when not believing could lead one to a law suit and an attempt to extort money from the City? Yeah, that's never been done before. Right.

Mary: "The fact that only the dog was shot speaks to the restraint these police officers showed."

Ahhh, yes, finally, the incident in 015 - that no one really knows what happened, unless on the scene. Let's talk about this, shall we? The fact that the police officer did NOT fire his weapon at the sorry-excuse-for-a-human-being does NOT mean that he did NOT have the legal justification to do so. Perhaps he was hit from behind? Perhaps it happened so suddenly that the officer could not react with his weapon? Perhaps the offender struck the officer and then dropped the axe handle? I know your next piece would have been on this - "Police shoots unarmed man". I wasn't there - and more importantly, neither were you. I don't know what happened. But the lack of deadly force does NOT automatically = a choice not to use the deadly force.

Mary Mitchell, your ignorance never fails to amaze me. But then again, neither does your race.

It is something indeed the way the Sun-Times prints "The Gospel According to Mary." She's racist, sexist, and self-righteous. And God forbid you disagree with her because in her eyes she's all-knowing.

This is the same woman who tells her readers about how bad white people are and how black people should stick together, but next week will talk about the same black men she feels the "community" should unite to protect from white police as if they're black women's enemy.

Good job, Mary, you don't unite black people against racism. You just spew racism and unite everyone who agrees with you against the "morons" who don't.

What is there to say....The black community and liberal yuppies are outraged that a 14 year old was shout multiple times by the police, but let's not look at the real problem. A kid running around with a weapon (albeit bb gun) and either attempting to rob or actually robbing people. Does it suck that it was a kid, yes...Does it suck that it happened, yes....but like we always say, we go home at the end of the night....

We unfortunately have to play by a rule book that the offenders are not provided, nor would they have to abide by...But until the "community" accepts responsibility for their actions and those of their kids, the police will be the ones blamed. Even more troubling, this is especially true of our own kids...

I don't know about the rest of you, but I joined the department so I could shoot young black men in the prime of their lives. Yessiree, a day is just not complete unless I execute some poor defenseless kid who was only heading home from school to complete his studies.

I've been in a rut though, haven't been able to execute anyone! I look everywhere I can, but whenever the opportunity arises where I can execute someone, they either run away or give up! What am I to do?

Back to reality, the Mary Mitchell's of the world really believe that bullshit. I for one don't want to kill ANYONE, and so far I've been lucky not to have to do that.

How can any right minded person believe that kind of garbage? Shooting at someone, let alone killing them is one stressful experience. I'm sure the copper that shot that little piece of shit is still torn up about it, but knows he did what he had to do at the time.

Instead of all this quasi racial bullshit, how about a little accountability from the parents? Junior shouldn't be walking around with any kind of gun, and if he points it at someone, that's what happens.

Where are the 8th grade photos and when will the lawsuit be filed?

The problem with Mary, and most other over educated people who have no common sense is that they do not understand the subculture of poverty and crime; and it is a definite subculture. Those who ahve education and common sense and live in places like Kenilworth and Wilmette know that public housing breeds crime and the entitlement culture of poverty. That is why these liberals have always- going back years- oushed for public housing in the city. They want to keep it here instead of their lily white suburbs. They can feel good and go home to whitesville at the same time. it is called NIMBY- not in my back yard.

The tide is changing. Pookie is now being forced out and moved to the burbs. I wonder what will Mary say when a suburban police officer- do they carry guns?- shoots a teenager with a weapon. I wonder if their will be accusations about their culture. It is about time. I say send them to Kenilworth, Buffalo Grove, Burr Ridge, Palos, and the rest.

Let them handle them. Yuppies we can deal with. They only whine.

I for one would like to see Phil Cline address the public via a long-winded non-politically correct press confrence. If the brass does read this board, you would not only get the respect of every member of all police deaprtments across the nation, but the law-abiding public including the majority of the black community who try to do it right and raise their kids , get them home in time, go to work and try to make it better. This would be a statement i'd like to see Phil make " yes ladies and gentlemen of the press, my officer did shoot the 14 year old, but this was after he pointed a look-alike weapon at him. Unfortunately, it occured, but the most unfortunate fact is those who are trying to incite the law-abiding citizens of this community to rise up against those police officers who patrol the Cabrini Green area and try to make it safe on a daily basis. However, I would like to make this appeal to the public and every citizen in Chicago. If you point a weapon, whether it be a B.B. gun, a water pistol, or anything that could put an officer in danger, expect to be shot. This is true if you live in Cabrini Green, Edison Park, Garfield Ridge, Beverly or any community not mentioned. My officers are trained to react this way because if they fear for their personal safety, they have a duty to act. My message is simple, to all of those community activists who are trying to get the citizens to fight the police, it needs to stop now. If you are seen on the streets attempting to cause a civil unrest, you will be arrested. If you resist, you will have to suffer the consequences of your actions. The young man that was shot has learned a valuable lesson at the most extreme cost, loosing an organ as a result of a dumb thing he did. If a police officer, whether that officer be black , white, hispanic, asian, female or male, tells you to put your hands where they can see them...DO IT!. If not, this action could cost you your life. I make no apoligies for my officer's actions, he did what he had to do. The Chicago Police Department has and will continue to stand behind him. This character assasination shall end at the end of this press conference." Now that would take big balls and i'd be shouting amen at the TV for that. So Pat Camden, Monique "the offenders are victims" Bonds, type this one up and give it to Phil. Enough is enough of this. Split second decisions should not be second guessed..all of you be safe out there, and make it home.....

Mary was the victim of a crime once. If my memory serves me correctly, she was carjacked in Maywood by the same ghetto scum she defends. The offenders were caught in Area 4 and Mary was called to view a lineup. She declined to identify the offenders. She wrote an article about it, I think it had something to do about refusing to put another young black man behind bars. Instead, turn this young poor misguided black man back into the street so he may continue his life of pillaging and robbing the same people he lives amongst and Mary defends. It would be interesting to see how many more crimes had been comitted since he was let go, and of those crimes, how many had victims that were part of the black community.

I grew up in the Rockwell Gardens CHA complex. I finished high school and I just finished college. I have had run ins with white, black and hispanic cops and I don't think they are all racist toward a certain race. I think they are racist against all those who commit crimes and more soo toward those repeat offenders. I was arrested when I was a juvenile for possession of weed and my brother told me to lie and say they (the police) put the weed on me. This was a common practice where I grew up. Everybody knew that when you got arrested for drugs or a gun or even a stolen car the first thing you do is run, then if they catch you then lie and say the police put the drugs or gun on you. I was at my cousins house when I was 14 and the topic of conversation at dinner was what story should my brother give at trial and my relatives sat there for 3 hours and made up a story with hopes that it would help him be found not guilty. It worked and he was back home a week later and is now serving 14 years for 2 counts of robbery. I am ashamed to have him as a brother. For the past year I have been dating a white female from Niles and I am more and more ashamed of where I came from and seeing how it would have been if my parents too responsibilty and raised us the right way. Oh I forgot to mention my mom was never home when we were kids and my dad was around when he wasn't in jail so my Grandma Ray raised us by herself. I run into guys I grew up with from the neighborhood and ALL of them are doing something ILLEGAL. Lil j who was one of my closest friends when I was little is running a weed spot off of Chicago avenue and the rest of the crew is selling or are somehow involved in the sale of narcotics on the west side of Chicago. There moms know what they do for a living and have no problem with until they get caught, then their moms are calling OPS on the police making up storied so that the police leave that block alone, and it works! I hope to start a family of my own some day and I know how to raise my kids the right way because I don't want them dead by 16 years of age. Oh, by the way, I read the story about the 14yr old with the bb gun getting shot. I don't see what was wrong with it, if my friend Lil j was on the avenue and this 14 yr old came up to him with the bb gun my guy wouldn't have just shot him he would have killed him and then robbed him of anything on his body as a sign not to mess with Lil j's weed spot and there would be no marches or protests against Lil j. I see homicides ocuring weekly on the west side and I don't here about marches against the shooters or their families .... why is that??? Well thats all I have to say, I heard about this site and I read a lot of comments and I agree with some and not with others but if it wasn't for the police who arrested me for the weed when I was little I wouldn't be the man I am know, my life turned for the best form that time on. Finally, Mary Mithcell is just another writer trying to gain readers so I don't take her seriously. Thankyou and god bless

Just because most of us coppers come in contact with the worst of any race you cannot assume that all in that race are the same ---as most of the coppers on this site refer to black people as "animals, monkeys, the beast, donkeys" etc..just like the media paints us all(police) with the same dirty/tainted brush--scc,i see you heading in that direction with some of your comments, but you probably wont post this!!

Guilty as charged. It WAS an overly broad generalization. But we meant it more tongue in cheek than you are reading. Mary is making overly broad generalizations as to why the Black community distrusts the police, why they feel it's ok to march for an idiot that pointed a realistic looking weapon at police officers and she equates it with what happened 20 years ago (Burge) when close to 3/4 of the people currently on this job weren't on the job at all. We were just returning the favor.

Now, as to your overly broad generalization that "most of the coppers on this site refer to black people as ..." We have maybe 1,600 visitors a day. Most of them are probably visiting twice, so figure 800 visitors and maybe some visit three times? We figure we have maybe 500 total people who pay regular attention to us. On our BEST DAYS, we never get 100 comments and we used delete maybe half on a really bad day. So your comment of "most of the coppers" is a slight exaggeration?

As to us not publishing your comment, you are unfortunately mistaken. We accept criticism well. We are introspective and take pains to avoid repeating the same mistake (if in fact, it was a mistake.) It's called being human. You make a fair point, logically and without resorting to ad hominem attacks on us. We feel you are slightly correct but slightly mistaken also. The tag at the top says "Sarcasm and Silliness."

As it is, we stand by our post.

Mary Mitchell was the "victim" of a crime, however, the facts you gave are a little off. She was the victim of a hit-and-run.

In the winter of 03', a car was being pursued by 015 (said pursuit called off several times). It crashed at Laramie and LeMoyne (in 025), at which point the two passengers were arrested by
myself and "The Seiser". (Yes, the driver got away, and we made no attempt to upgrade one of the passengers).
THE POLICE CHIEF of MAYWOOD arrived at the 025 station later in the evening, after picking-up Mrs. Mitchell at her home, in order for her to identify the "driver" of the car, which hit her car in a gas station when it was originally stolen several days prior near 11th and Lake street.
The Dicks in A/5 put together a line-up for Mrs. Mitchell, so she could identify the "driver", which we didn't have in the first place.
Mrs. Mitchell "failed" to identify the offender, which was good for her, so she "didn't have to send another black man to jail".

I've never seen someone get such special treatment from the department. (In my dreams the Dick tells her and the Maywood Police Chief "You got nothin', kid").
She also commented in the same article "all the black faces in the station (025)) were behind bars, and only white faces in front of them".
She never went near the lock-up, and there were numerous black officers working that night, one of which was on the desk (whom she had a conversation with).
One other thing I noticed were the bright BLUE contacts she was wearing. Quite stunning.
I wouldn't call her a race-baiter though. After all, her article the next day started with the line "my husband is white, but I wont hold that against him".
On a side note, the driver (Jeremy - the female passenger's boyfriend/roommate) was never arrested for the PSMV. I guess I should take the moral high ground as well, and be glad that I "didn't have to send another black man to jail" (aside from the passenger).
