Nice Pinch in 014

Sometimes it pays to be good. Sometimes it pays to be lucky.
  • Chicago Police seized an estimated $1 million in suspected drug money over the weekend after finding two men moving bundles of cash from an SUV to a semi-trailer with a secret compartment.

Shakespeare District officers, who made the seizure, also confiscated drugs with a street value of over $350,000 from a different location.

This one ought to make the training videos for trap detection.

UPDATE: Getting conflicting reports in the comments that 010 had a hand in the money seizure? Anyone with the full story, send it this way so we can correct anything mistaken.

Excellent job 014!!!

Unfortunately, it will never make the training video because it wasn't "glory hound" Sgt. Hamilton or his team who made the seizure.

If you've had the opportunity to take his vehicle trap class, he comes across as a genius. What he dosen't tell you is that he had a friend who worked at a "trap shop" suppling him with info on vehicles with newly installed traps.

I guess I can't blame him though, as his trap gimmick did get him a meritorious promotion to sergeant.

Are you sure that was not in the 10th-Marquette/Ogden District.

It was two separate incidents; the money was being concealed into hidden compartments of a tractor trailer rig. 10th District Tact and Gangs grabbed the driver, a Mac-10, and this is scary, a FN Herstel 5-seveN. This is a body armor defeating pistol that fire a shorten version of the .223 round with a 20 round magazine. Goes right through the Kevlar and bounces around inside. Great work, arrest was without incident. I can remember when something like this would be an unsolved homicide and early retirements.

The dope pinch was a middle of the night search warrant in Lyons.

Both jobs were great work by 10th District Tact and Gangs. I don't know if 14 had their own similar incident, if they did, great.

In the words of Homer Simpson, "D'oh!" Somebody's gonna get it now. Unless it was their own operation, there's gonna be hell to pay.

I can just imagine their boss wondering, "Where's my money?" I have no sympathy for dope dealers, dope fiends or child molester.

Ive always wondered what happens to the money that is confiscated by the CPD. Does it go to the CPD after court proceedings? Into Daleys general fund? Does it just evaporate? turning into a flower box?

Sure is a nice arrest in 014.

Not to change the subject someone mentioned in another place in this site about Sons of Supervisors,SOS and bosses getting introuble about seized cash. Does anyone have info on this or is this just rumor?

See you're talking crap about the guy, but the fact is that regardless of where the info came from, he HAS it, you don't, and at least he is passing it on to the rest of us. Sorry, I just don't see how that's a bad thing. Jealous much?

A percent goes to the recovering agency, percent to the county and percent to the state.

John Hamilton was and still a load mouth know-it-all. Self serving and all himself only, as P.O. just off prob. called in a 10-1 saying he was shot at from the projects and hit his vest. But really he stumbled himself and discharged his own weapon grazing his jacket and vest during a street stop as they were getting out of car. His expertize in an area he never had or will have any knowledge in, I know I was working in 013 when it happen that night and thought it was fishy from get go.

Over Half of those traps Sgt. H. has pictured in his lil "I'm the greatest" class are from regular guys like us. I have given him at least five within the last year, and I'm no one special.. but remember we're all children and must call him when we find one per G.O. so he can come photo it and claim it for his own. Nice G.O. tailored for one person.. Nice bust whoever it was!

Agree with the above post....J Hamilton made merit dic for the shoot with his vest, then merit Sgt. How does one get double "merit" promoted is what I want to know....when will the bs stop in this dept? How many don't even make merit dic after being shot?? I know a few double merits and they are clout jokes.

He gets merit Sgt. and dick by being born to a politically influential southside family. Character, decency, and work ethic have nothing to do with it. If you accept a merit promotion because you do not have the cognitive ability to earn promotion you are a thief, hardly different from the theives real policemen arrest everyday, without fanfare, and without cameras.

MERIT PROMOTIONS!

Since the CPD command insists on merit promotions (supposedly going to those exceptional officers that deserve them) I have a suggestion. If they are really on the legit why not publically post the reasons for the promotion in the unit where the officer works. And maybe throughout the Police Dept. Further, why not a ribbon, to be proudly worn, indicating that the officer holds his rank because he earned it by fine police work. Whatcha think?

Whether the arrest happened in 014 or 010....great job CPD! I am a citizen who understands the dedication, long hours, and intense concentration it takes to do what you all do best!

If it happens that this happened in 014, hats off to everyone at the tact. team, Commander Avila, and everyone else who did it right!

Keep it up everyone!
