Lowe's Joins Target, Wal-Mart

  • The battle over the Big Box ordinance continued as Lowe's announced it has put its plans for two home-improvement centers in Chicago on hold in the wake of the city's new big-box minimum-wage ordinance, following similar steps taken by Wal-Mart and Target, a developer and alderman said.
Good for them. The ordinance evidently covers quite a few stores that none of the aldercreatures who voted for this atrocity of a law even dreamed of. It seems a large majority of the City Council failed Economics 101, but some seem to be recovering. From the Channel 2 News comes this story:
  • There are strong signs that at least six aldermen may be ready to change their vote on the big box wage ordinance. CBS 2 News has learned exclusively that six members of the City Council may be willing to support Mayor Daley in a veto.
Well well well. Imagine that.

It seems that Joe Moore and his band of liberal loonies are losing steam. People finally woke up and realised the loss to the city if this ridiculous ordinance was actually enacted.

Now, can we bring back fois gras and smoking?

Aldercreatures are a bunch of wimps. Big, bad, strong convictions they had, they can't even defend their own actions, now back peddling. Wusps. Anyone who voted for an alderman who didn't have the balls to stand up and defend their part in this box store ordinance, should really reconsider the pussy they're voting for next election.

And yet they accomplished their main goal: Voting themselves a big, fat RAISE (again) the same day, diverting nearly all attention to the wage ordinance. Now, no matter whether it's vetoed or not, they can tell their constituents they went to bat for them and thus get re-elected and keep their salary increase All the while talking out of the other side of their mouths how we are overbudget and must cut spending (to police, fire, etc., anyone but the aldermen!). Where is the public and media outcry? We are sheep, manipulated easily. Fooled by the simplest distraction. The big box ord... Was I saying something? I see something shiny. Must go stare at it a while.

All he Mayor has to do to get the needed votes to sustain a veto is threaten to fire the concerned Alderman,s otherwise unemployable realtives from their city Commissioner, City Inspector, and/or Police/Fire Dept. exempt positions.

This ordinance makes no since.with the exception of raising the minimum wage, how can any governmental body legiislate what a company should pay it's workers and what they should pay in benefits? It's unconstitutional. If it should go as far as the supreme court,I have no doubt it would be struck down. I don't see a federal judge upholding a law like this. The unions want these jobs to replace the factory and steel mill jobs that have left the city over the past 25 years.(It ain't gonna happen.)Retail has NEVER paid the wages industry does. NAFTA changed the whole ballgame for American workers. The post WWII boom of jobs and prosperity is officially over. The economic future for ALL Americans is less bright than it was even a decade ago.(With the exception of the top 1%.)Unions will have a harder time organizing workers in this century than the last.Because when workers try to organize and demand better wages and benefits, all the company will do is threaten to pack up,and move to another part of the globe. With the exception of the self employed, small bussiness owners, upper teir executives, and owner/CEO's.The rest of us will be low paid slaves of the worldwide conglomerates.(this will be a fact in the next 10-20yrs.)And anyone who thinks their immune (Government workers included,)Think again.
