Residents Fed Up

After receiving free housing, food stamps, link cards, medical care, and SSI for all manner of disability, residents of the Cabrini Green neighborhood are finally fed up with police and developers forcing them out of the neighborhood.
  • "It's crap, man. I was brought up here,'' said Jimmie Blossom, 63, who has since moved out of the neighborhood but visits regularly.
  • "I know they want the neighborhood. . . . It's prime property. They are trying to get the poor people out of here. . . . I got a right to live, too. My God, I got a right to live. I might not have money ... education. But nobody can put me down and kick me in my side."
  • Tensions rose at the end of the protest. Protesters winged water bottles at police and brandished broken broom handles and bats in the 1200 block of Larrabee.
  • Two African-American teens chastised a white police officer with vulgar verbal attacks, challenging him to take his gun off and fight. They also expressed anger at white citizens at the march.
  • One man allegedly spit on an officer during the march and was sprayed with Mace by police trying to arrest him near Scott and Larrabee, which brought forward the protesters with the broom handles and bats.
At times like this, only one action will ever make an effective impact: Move out. Move out and deny the City your vote. Deny the City sales tax revenue. Deny the City your head count during the 2010 census and the Federal funds will dry up faster than a summer rain in Death Valley. Move! It's the only way to make sure your voices are heard.

Keep screaming knuckleheads. Keep brandishing those broom handles, throwing those bottles and spitting at the police - you're doing a great job of marginalizing yourselves.

I'm finally first at something in my life. My heart swelled with pride when I viewed the front page photo in today's Sun Times. Whoever the officer is in that photo busting that ignorant animal's chops is my new hero. What else can you but laugh at these fools. It brings to mind similar encounters I had in 1968 when I applied a similar tactic with Jane Fonda's boyfriend Tom Hayden across from the Contrad Hilton. Keep it up guys, don't back down. And when they attack you, and you know they will, beat them down with every ounce of energy you have. Forget mercy for they will have none for you.
God Bless and all you kids and please be careful out there. And remember one thing, all you have is each other - always think BLUE!!!!

Old Grey Guy,
Speaking strictly for myself here, thank you and never fear, this young copper has your wisdom instilled. Trust me, whenever a street thug gets out of line or presents an unwanted trait of false bravado-he ends up painfully remembering you DO NOT mess with the Chicago Police.
I will never let the street beat me. My objective is to survive at all costs. Some of my coworkers still have yet to grasp the concept that they can be seriously injured or killed out there.
I have no mercy in my heart for a criminal who tries to take away my life. I believe in the "old school" way of thinking too. If somebody attacks a cop, you put him in the hospital.
Sometimes we have to fight the animal using whatever weapon of choice we have. So be it...
God Bless You too.

I know that the media is defenitely not our friend but who makes the decision on the slant that stories take on?

Do editors have real concerns about upsetting the rank and file of Cabrini-Green or whatever project that happens to be in the news?

The little jag-off spawn of some GD from Cabrini is robbing people in broad daylight but that is NEVER the story. The story is always about the department members actions, re-actions or stance on the incident.

Will sentiment ever swing the other way? Are thses reporters bound by what their bosses want said?

Fuck these reporters. Don't give them any info. In fact give them bullshit info. Tell them you'll meet them somewhere for an exclusive and don't show.

I Love liberals. Their thinking is so twisted that a conservative has been President for 20 of the last 28 years. Maybe they should take a clue as to what the voting block in America seeks. (And it's not what the people of Conn, Mass, or California are after.)

Just 6 years ago, Sen Joe Lieberman was nominated by the Democrats as their Vice-Presidential candidate. Now he is done! Too conservative!!!

WOW!! If an idiot like G. Bush can beat Al Gore and John Kerry in nationwide elections, then maybe you liberals should TAKE A HINT!!
What will you do if we get an actual qualified candidate next year?

HINT!! HINT!! Support a candidate who leans more to the right. And not Hillary, who just pretends to slant towards the right. The American people demand it. They are sick of all of your pussy-ass celebrities speaking out against Pres. Bush.

The liberals now got rid of a Senator who many Americans admire. (conservatives included). I LOVE IT!! Show America how you liberals really are.

I pray every night that Ted Kennedy drives thru his Big Dig, which cost tax-payers 16 billion instead of the original 4 billion, and drowns like Mary Jo Kopechne did in 1969.

But you go liberals. Meeks, Daley, Jesse, McKinney, Hillary, Kerry, Gore, Surandon, Streisand.

We'll adopt Lieberman and keep the presidency in 2008!!

This new moderation makes it a lot less interesting during the day...but at the same time, at least everything is somewhat worthy of being read! Thanks for the changes!!!

And congrats to all the coppers who kept their cool during the circus parade of crocodile tears. That pic on the front page of the Times is priceless. I think the kid with his finger in the coppers face is named Maurice. Hope Maurice got all his frustrations out in front of the media cause it's not like he'll be hard to find again. He's been a career criminal since he was about 9 years old over there. He's not exactly going to go to his summer home in the Hamptons!

The plan for city gentrification was put into motion as soon as Mayor Daley was sworn into office. The ididots at Cabrini Green,Robert Taylor,Abla, and the rest helped dig there own collective graves. After years of anarchy, violence, and ignorance regular citizens both white and black are fed up.After the "transformation" at CHA,certain neighborhoods will be targeted.Places like Austin,North Lawndale,Bronzeville and Englewood will be much different places than they are today.Being white, black or hispanic will no longer be the common denominator. The reality of the situation will be;"If you can't pay,you cant stay."

1968-2006

Thirty Eight (38) years the Media has fueled and fed into the frenzy of these miscreants. Whose main focus is militant and angled at the police by continually faulting them as their excuse for self perpetuated crime and civil disorder.

Accountability has long been thrown out the window and police conduct or lack of conduct is the infamous excuse for their basis of civil disorder.

Has it become vogue by the media, that presentation of breaking the law can be utilized with the proverbial violin string playing of the Woe Is Me song for the justification of why they break the law.

Is the agenda now to be the inciting of a racial civil uprising through the use of the gullible and quite unfortunate to all of us police players.

Were aware the department has hired on gang members who still wear gang colors, white militants who wear cloaked robes and militant Hispanics bronzed robed, among like other's. What they all have in common is the daily wearing of a blue robe by requirement and not through honor.

We saw and read the media feed into the alleged street brawl where a minister is advocating reward one punish another. If this occurred both should be punished and all others dividing should be addressed though I doubt it will be cured, were talking hatred here and perceived open wound slights. Snapping the fingers is not going to make this go away, it's only going to continue to grow and fester going deeper under.

In my opinion for what it's worth. Our poor leadership all the way to the top should also be held as an accountable and responsible party in all this on going civil disorder. They bend over backwards then cover their personal behinds.

Again I can not look beyond the medias continual negative attention on police as the culprit in the recent broom and bottle escapade. Media for news these days is just to spin anything regarding police and unlawful citizens and non-citizens into shock and awe of useless value other than to incite more like unlawful actions.

Anyone inciting a riot needs to be hauled off and have the book thrown at them, to bad it can't be the contributing liberal media civil disorder mongers within.

Will we ever see healthy independent leadership in the light of day who will actually stand tall and put an erupt halt to all this chaos from the top down within and out? Or have all the elected and self proclaimed leaders already cut out their personal advancement niches of delight at our expense.

Ditto to the old grey guy post about the copper on the front page of the Sun Times today. I felt incredibly proud when I saw the photo. His attitude has CPD all over it.

I don't think it is coincidence that we have not suffered major civil unrest in this town like other large cities have in the past. Everytime we have had a convention, World Cup Soccer championships, Bulls Celebrations, or even during the Rodney King riots, the media in this town and nationally revert to showing our beloved Old School from the 68 convention spanking the crap out of everyone in sight. Times have changed but we are still capable of it.

We may fight and back bite with each other but what large family of thousands wouldnt? But it is still, and always will be, Us against them.

It is still our town. We run it. We always will.

Typical City/Dept B.S., Coppers on the scene were victims of assualts, aggravated assualts, and a battery or two (spitn'). The police and some supervisors wanted to take police action, some tried. BUT the higher ups that were on the scene calling the shots refused to let the troops do their job. The police all looked like putz's. Instead of taking control of the situation and sending a strong msg to the gangsta's and felons in the crowd, the bosses made the coppers stand around with their thumbs up their azzes. The bad guys win! Next time it will be worse for the police cause they now know they can get away with just about anything. Next time, the bad guys will turn it up a notch or two. And watch the bosses calln' the shots will make the police stand down and do nothing again. what a joke!

Ms. Deidre Brewster is a displaced Cabrini resident, what does this actually mean? She was part of the organizing of the march. Their web page has not been updated since June of 05. Yet they have tons of outside liberal org's and CHURCHES involved in their operation. Is this a non-profit operation, if so why so sloppy and maybe follow the money trail. Many want to stay right there in the Greens in possibly new improved units. Looks still like there are all sorts of political personal agendas still a flow on this one.
Watch yourself officer's!

Appears the CHA consent decree failed to fulfill an additional 235 section 8 units per 05 info., and their still up in arms. Read the the global rights need aka wants.

Lets get this straight they don't want to really work and pay prevailing rents and also want to be entitled to section 8 vouchers and an increase in min. wage to boot? Walmart, Target game. I'm smelling the waif of rotten politics and personal Woe Is Me tune discord in this volatile recipe.

Ahhhh yes, could it possibly be perpetuated and spun by the liberal media as a regular day at the Greens drama 101 course spoof my friends?

Police and new roller skating settlers are now what, being once again used and played as pawns not only by the clingers but by those no longer in the Greens along with the city and connected developers. Classic and priceless liberal spin! Then again maybe I'm just plain wrong on this.

From their 05 website:

The CPPH meets weekly on Wednesdays at 10:30 am in the Cabrini Green Rowhouse Management Office at 900 N. Hudson. For directions and more information, please contact Deidre at (312) 280-2298.

We currently are seeking volunteers and unpaid interns to perform the following activities:

Update the website

Send letters to congressional representatives

Research global efforts to
advocate for housing as a human right

Sign a petition to bring UN Special Rappatuer on Human Rights Miloon Khotari to Cabrini Green here

YEEEEEESSSSS, lets blame everyone in society for that young man who brandished a weapon at the police officer and got what he deserved. Lets not blame the parents....for if they knew where he was or what he was doing , by gosh, they would have stopped him. Blame society for trying to "push" em out of the Greens. I am sure they feel soooooo unloved because of that. Here is a novel idea!!!!! Be an adult and take some responsibility for the fruit of your loins and his actions, stupid. Get a fuckin job and contribute something to society instead of telling everyone who will listen, how "your people" are being kept down. WHAT A CRUTCH!!!!!!!
The only reason thay are mad is because he won't be at the parade this Saturday.

Are they tired of the developers and the yuppies. I have a photo of me and my squad car at a play lot in Cabrini.

The address there is 9?? N. Cambridge. I figure that is where my grandmothers house once stood and I visited my cousins there.

The Cabrini area was once a solid Italian neighborhood, which was very blue collar and very Republican.

Richard J. Daley wanted to eliminate this threat, and control the mass migration of Southern Negros (that was the polite term, back them) but who were mostly Democratic.

Hence, he built Cabrini-Green, places where the Democratic immigrant black population can be contained and controlled while the Republican Italian, and other ethnics can move out to the growing suburbs of the 50's and 60's.

Now the son wishes to repeat history. Bring in the Democratic yuppies and scatter the African American population out to the neighborhoods and the suburbs.

The developers will make their money and make their campaign contributions.

Why should they be fed up? The City will move them for free into a brand new section 8 house in a nice hood surounded half million dollar homes and manacured lawns.

They will be able to attend a local school were the teacher can actualy pronouce the word store instead of sto...

Yes it is true the will have to get used to the idea of actualy being a minority instead of just claiming to be one.

But they will still get free rent, gas. elect and bus tokens.

However they will be exspected to at least act civilized, or the new nieghbors will call the Popo.

Here's my rant.
Why is it always someone else's fault when one acts stupid, blatantly breaks the law, can never get their sh*t together even though everything is handed to them, etc.??

I have a f*ck*d-up relative who I consider a total bust-out who does the same thing....it's always someone else's fault for their f*ck*d-up behavior, their f*ck*d-up life. Blame this one, that one, but never take responsibility for themselves. Poor me because of this poor me because of that. I'm sure there are a lot of you out there that can claim one "disfunctional" in their clan, but I've had enough. There's enough of it on TV and the media. Please spare us the losers and their self-righteous "not my fault, but yours" attitude or the "pity me" crap. Put someone on that has their sh** together or someone who has actually pulled themselves out of their eternal funk and show the rest of them it can be done..put the effort into it and just do it.

I'm sooooo tired of this......damn...now I feel better. Rant over.

Public Housing was NOT meant for generations of people to live in!

What happened to self respect and dignity? Go to school, do better than your parents! How many people in America are sons/daughters of immigrants who came here with NOTHING? WORKED THEIR ASSES OFF AND HAD A BETTER LIFE FOR THEIR CHILDREN?

Say NO to PUBLIC HOUSING for LIFE!
Go get a job! Determine where you want to live! Be a part of America, Not a problem for America!

It is about time too. People have wondered for years how come low income housing was limited to the city. The suburbs fought and still fight tooth and nail against low income housing. People in Kenilworth, Wilmette, Glenco, and Burr Ridge are never called racist. They have always promoted low income housing in Chicago, you see. No, lefty, the suburbs are reaping what they have sown. Poor people should be able to live in the healthy environment of the burbs. It is the left way.

What makes me sick is these generations of people who suck the state dry of funds that were only supposed to be TEMPORARY!!
If its supposed to be temporary as the state says it is, then how do GENERATIONS of famalies continue to receive assistance. They need to put their foot down and say the well has run dry. After 6 months thats it and stick to it.
As long as the state continues to give out section 8, food stamps, etc. without a cut-off time, nothing will change.
Why should they....they're given no incentive.
Hard-working, tax-paying citizens shouldn't have to foot the bill for these slouches.
