Olympic Impressions
The committee to decide what US city will bid for the 2016 Games is in town being feted about at all the trendy restaurants, getting all sorts of gifts and gratuities and (this being Chicago) who knows how many bags of unmarked non sequential bills of varying denominations? That's how Salt Lake City got their games and we can't let a bunch of red state Republicans out do us at our own game, can we?

If we get the olympics, it is assumed that the city will cry poor for our contract negotiations.
In light of this, I think it would be fun to protest Daley's attempts to get the olympics, just to stick it up the mayor's ass.

Related to this, didn't Blago just announce the largest propose tax increase in Illinois History? This is supposed to help fund education medical care and pensions. Just wait for the bills for this fiasco.
I'm just curious. Serious question here. How does the city/state make money when the estimates are in the "billions" of dollars to build this crap?? Whats the estimate up to now? 1.2b for the housing; 500m for the stadium. Where do we get back the money? From all the tourists eating at Ditka's and visiting the "bean"???

This is the perfect project for the Midget. This is another ego boosting "legacy" which can go over budget, whilst making his friends in the construction, vending and service business a mint. Government is the new Mafia.

Just look at the City's track record. Millinium Park, Soldier Field, Midway Airport, Ohare Airport what do they all have in common? Cost over-runs that at least doubled the original estimates. Typical low-balling of bids.
Prediction to follow:
Walsh Construction makes millions on construction of Olympic village and venues.
Blago's tax increase (when passed) will force Illinois businesses out in droves. Therefore unemployment will skyrocket.

The state pension funds are the in the hole $35-40 billion -- making them most underfunded in dollar terms of any in the country. The CPD and CFD are among the must underfunded percent wise. Someday, somebody is going to have to foot these bills.
Rumor is that a certain new District Commander's head will roll for his dropping the perimeter security ball when the Olympics Committee visited McCormick Place today. Apparently only one car was detailed by the D/C and as a result, a protester was able to get face to face with his Royal Highness King Richard. The King is furious and his anger immediately sent pressure waves throughout the Command Staff causing every other District Commander to hit the panic button and call for reinforcements to ensure that no one approached Daley or the Olympics Committee entourage for the remaining tour.

Fuck the olympics. This is just more shit for us to do, and for the taxpayers to eat. Send them back to Greece where they came from, and where they belong.
