- Hundreds of protesters calling for the end of funding for the Iraq war or the immediate return of U.S. troops marched Sunday and converged on a park near the United Nations headquarters.
Union members, representatives of Rev. Jesse Jackson's Rainbow-PUSH Coalition, war veterans and others joined the demonstration, one of several staged during the weekend across the country to mark the fourth anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq.
Allegedly, all tact, gang, SOS and assorted teams will be on standby for "incidents." These protests keep getting smaller all the time.

Our forces are not the ones sending suicide bombers into market places and setting off chlorine bombs. We are the good guys. Our people are helping to build schools, roads hospitals and everything else positive.

I'm an Iraq veteran (2003-04) and I totally agree that we made a huge mess over there. We have created more problems than we are solving. If we followed Bush's logic about who the enemy is, then we should start a war with every country that these insurgents are coming from. That would be every country in the middle east. This statement serves as further evidence that you've swallowed the Team Bush Kool-Aid Patriot. Saddam's regime was a SECULAR, non-fundimentalist, Sunni-dominated society that allowed no space for the so-called Islamic fundimentalist movements such as The Muslim Brotherhood or Al Qeada. Saddam and Osama bin Laden were implicable enemies. In fact, Saddam's security agents ruthlessly and efficiently hunted down then annihalated any Al Qeada cells found operating within Iraqi territory under Baathist Party control.
We were attacked on 9/11 by elements originating in Saudi Arabia (15 of the 19 hijackers were Saudi nationals) with grevances dating back to the First Gulf War and the continued presence of US troops in the Holy Land. Further inflaming the passions of seething Muslim masses throughout the Middle East has been the continued US support for the tyrannical regimes of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Jordan among others, and our unconditional support for Israeli colonialism in the Occupied Territories.

This isn’t the place for me to lay out in detail the distinction between the totalitarian nightmare that was Stalinism (deliberately misrepresented in the west as “communism”) and the anti-Bolshevik, anti-Marxist anarchist Left as represented by Michael Bakunin, Emma Goldman, Peter Kropotkin, Pierre-Joseph Proudhon, Noam Chomsky, Daniel Guerin, and Rudolph Rocker among others whose names escape me at the moment. The only thing remotely approaching the non-hierarchal, non-exploitative socialist ideal was its brief flowering in Anarchist Spain of the mid 1930’s and the Israeli Kibbutzim during the early settlement a decade later. Once you've familiarized yourself with this subject THEN we can talk. Until then stick to topics you understand.
