The Sky is Falling!!!

  • Business owners who oppose Governor Rod Blagojevich's proposed business tax have a new ally Friday, the Reverend Jesse Jackson. Jackson joined small business owners who say the tax would put them out of business.
  • The governor claims that most of the new tax on business revenues would be paid by big corporations that don't pay their fair share now, and the money, billions of dollars a year, would go to good causes, education and health care. But a coalition of small business owners, led by Reverend Jackson, says the tax will hit them, too, and for some it will be a death blow.
Big Corporations allegedly not paying their "fair share" is Blago's excuse for this. Unfortunately, Big Corporations will simply locate their operations out of state to avoid Illinois taxes and take thousands of jobs along with them - this in a state already bleeding jobs. We figure Jesse's angle is less businesses to perform his extortion act on is truly the driving force behind his acting like a republican all of the sudden. Small businesses are the lifeblood of the American economy, not Big Corporations.

Not a big fan of the gov’s but let’s get real…does anyone really think that Home Depot and Walgreen’s will close dozens of stores? The reason that they want to be on every corner is that it is obscenely profitable. Home Depot’s policy is that when a shop is grossing 1 mil (I think a month) they open another in the area…okay do the math…..they have stores everywhere, must be tons of money for them…let them leave – Menard’s will stay….or let Menard’s leave, Home Depot will stay…these business came for our money (the no-tax bonus is a bonus not the real draw {our $ is the real draw}). Does anybody believe that these businesses stay away from states that require them to carry their FAIR SHARE!

If all of the so called Big corporations left the city tomorrow I wonder how long this city would survive off of the small businesses that some keep believing is the backbone of the country...............

Jesse "the King of Beers" Jackson?...speaking out against taxing small businesses? wow, where has he been in the past to speak out for the small businessman, how does the new proposed tax (which I think is horses@@t) affect Jesse, his business interests, and his friends??...would he be willing to speak out and explain how he strong-armed Budweiser, so that one of his family received a beer distributorship?

How many of these big corporations were lured into setting up shop in Illinois when the legislature gave them tax breaks to come here? Are they going to stay now that the tables are going to be turned? If the breaks they were given still hold, how many big dollar corps. are going to be exempt from any increase?

You really don't think this is going to be a level playing field, do you?

I personally am worried about Blago's stupidity and I hope some politician has enough big business donators to get this corporate tax torpedoed. I am a police officer and a small business owner. I am incorporated to protect assets so I am willing to pay the taxes associated with incorporating but taxing the grosses is just a stupid move. I pay my staff, my bills for supplies, electric, gas, etc. from the grosses. If I am going to be taxed on that I am not going to be left with enough to pay thoses things and am going to have to close the doors. The big corporate giants will have a chance but a small incorporated business owner doesn't.

This reminds me of the protection rackets. They don't care about your situation just pay me or get a brick or molotov thrown through the window.

The consumer will lose because of this tax. The consumers will have to pay higher costs for goods so the store will be able to pay their taxes and still have enough to make ends meet.

I urge any politician with balls to go after this stupidity before the Blago turns this place into a wasteland of empty storefronts. And I beg you to please take the microphone away from Jesse Jackson.

The businesses in Chicago just get killed by the taxes, permits, licenses, inspections, etc requirements.

As an example, some mom and pop convenience store just opened down the block from me.

This man has to get several different business licenses (not just one). Then they have several different taxes to pay, permits, inspections (food, police, fire), burglar alarm, not to mention the additional Cook County taxes on top of that.

To sum it up, the Governor and Mayor are driving these people not only out of our city, but into different states now. There are barely any jobs here as it is...

when you patrol, just look around your beat and see.

More smoke and mirrors, redirection, diversion, whatever you want to call it.This is just another way for the liberal/socialists to practice wealth redistribution.Taxes pay thoes who do not/will not work with money stolen from you the tax payer, business just passes the tax onto you.Stop taxing us with your social programs, cut the programs back, turn off the tap of free money for your lazy constituants. Most of all stop voteing for democrats, why do you people keep voteing for the same jerks that tax us to death is beyond me.Ryan betrayed us and he should be in prison for life,he was no republican, more like an old time machine democrat from this socialist utopia called chicago.I pray I make it to retirement so I can leave this place and all the socialists behind, you will make the entire state look like detroit or new jersey, lovely places to live aren't they?

Healthcare is becoming something the average American worker no longer can afford. Our public education system is a joke. Corporate America will lobby it's way out of paying taxes.Look for the government to raise OUR local taxes to pay for institutions like Stroger Hospital where most uninsured folks turn to for heathcare. Those who pay the most recieve the least.

Blagojevich may go down as the worst governor in Illinois history. Even worse than the hypocrite Dan Walker. He is going to drive businesses either out of this state or out of business. Than who is going to pay the taxes? If you want examples, just look east to Michigan.

None of us pays our whole fair share of taxes due to loopholes- they are called deductions. If you have a good accountant or tax preparer, there is no reason for you to pay more than the 15-17% tax rate. Businesses pay taxes on their profits.

Blago lied when he stated that businesses pay on average only about 151.00 in taxes. It would cost them more in accounting costs to do that. Bost businesses and major Corporations are conservative when it comesw to taxes- the grief with the IRS is not worth the hassle.

Blago just wants to find a way to fund more expensive failures to make himself look good. The guy is the best liar I have ever seen.

What jobs SCC? Corporations aren't really creating jobs in any meaningful sense in this country at all anymore. They are, however, creating massive PROFITS while exporting operations overseas (with critical government assistance)where US supported tyrannies keep the slaves in line and the labor costs low.

The question Blago raises is why the public should continue to subsidize corporations--via tax breaks, protection from foreign competition, legislation encouraging unlimited capital flight, and a foreign policy designed exclusively towards their needs--while getting so little in return. Seems reasonable to me.

Stay safe.

The Jackson family is good at strong-arming big buisness by playing the race card (ie. Wendy's and Anheuser-Busch). He extorted both of those companies. If he can play a role in state policies it gives him even more power to extort more companies. More power equals more money. More money means more propaganda to keep his "people" feeling like victims. The more his people feel like victims the more they look to him for answers instead of taking more responsibilty for themselves and hence become dependent upon him/government. The more people look to him for answers the more power he has. It's an endless circle of power/money and he plays it very well. Oh yeah, the biggest key component to his success....everyone now...thats right, our non-biased and certaintly non-liberal media that legitimizes him.

Why pay taxes in Illinois anyway? There are other ways around this. Incorporate where there are no state income taxes. Nevada. I know of a few small business owners that have done that already.

Bitch, bitch, bitch.
That's all anyone does.
Post rants about government malfeasance and criticize those in charge.

Why not do something about it instead?

Assume there are 10 people here who are totally disgusted with the way the governor, (or even Daley) is screwing everything up.

So go out and convince 10 of your friends that a change is needed.

Now you are 100 strong.

Then, the 100 go out and do the same.

Now you are 1000 strong.

Then the 1000 go out and do the same.

Now you are 10,000 strong.

Then the 10,000 go out and do the same.

Now you are 100,000 strong.

Then you send a letter to the politician of choice indicating that your "coalition" wishes them to change their point of view.

Otherwise they will be recalled and never hold a public service job again.

100,000 voters will get anyone's attention.

They count on your indifference, lack of committment and apparent satisfaction of simply ranting on obscure Internet Message Boards.

And the beat goes on.
