- Immigration activist Elvira Arellano and her pastor, the Rev. Walter Coleman, said they're starting a 25-day strike on Friday to protest America's immigration laws.
- Arellano has been holed up inside the church for seven months to avoid being deported. It's a loophole in the legal system that doesn't allow immigration officials to go after illegals in houses of worship.
Close the loophole and start deportation proceedings. Was that difficult?

you may not be allowed to question one's status merely for immigration enforcement. but it does not mention anything about serving active arrest warrants, nor could it.

The Rev. Slim Coleman in his early days was an activist scumbag for the Uptown Coalition. He teamed with Alderscum Schiller and her group of assholes to make life miserable for coppers. I have a found memory of ole Slim. The day he spit in an off-duty copper’s face outside the old Blackstone Hotel (then the site of the Democratic Central Committee) and the copper removing two of Slims teeth with one of the best uppercuts I ever saw. They also housed another asshole activist of the day then, Mr. Sherman Scholnick (I think that’s how it’s spelled) got his wheelchair bound ass thrown in the slammer. The whole scene was over the Democrats not endorsing Jesse the Jag (aka “King of Beers”) for President.
Oh for the good old days when copper’s where allowed to be coppers without some yuppie asshole with a camera taping the whole thing.

Hey, whoever does the budget for Chicago schools find out those enrolled has legal parents and who doesn't. Demand their social security numbers, run them and see who they're attached to. There is "NO" law (federal, state, county, or local) that says you cannot enter a church to arrest somebody. The only problem is that the feds don't want the bad media press, and we all know how they would love to spin this one.

Just reverse NAFTA along with the other "free trade" agreements and neo-liberal policies that comprise the Washington Consensus, but have devastated the economies of Latin America and I'm sure Central and South Americans will have no problem remaining in their own countries as they develop independently of US control. Is that difficult?
Let's put it this way, the sooner we stop meddling in their affairs, the sooner Latin America will get its own house in order. Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador, Argentina, and, to some extent, Brazil have all recently made steps towards meaningful independence from the Washington Consensus--by rejecting it utterly. Mexico unfortunately remains in thrall, with predictable results.
The US, of course, exacts a heavy price on those that chose an independent course--just ask Cuba, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic.

My grandparents were not born here, they paid their way here, waited their turn, followed the rules, studied and passsed the tests. They also LEARNED ENGLISH, paid their taxes, learned trades, raised their rights hands and fought in World War I.

One law that should be changed imediately is the ANCHOR BABY law. At least one parent should be legal for the baby to be an automatic citizen.
