It's Still the Economy

In spite of the number of negative comments directed at us and the current Administration, more good news:
  • The Dow surged more than 280 points to finish at its record high on Thursday in New York, despite a lack of particularly strong factors.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average of 30 blue-chip issues soared 283.86 points, or 2.09 percent, from the previous day to 13,861.73.

Stop listening to democrats and the liberal media.

Euro breaks above $1.38 on weak U.S. retail sales

Dollar heads for a weekly loss of over 1% vs. euro, yen on worries about economy

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- The dollar touched a fresh record low against the euro and dropped against other major currencies Friday, after a government report showed retail sales fell much more than forecast last month, heightening concerns over the state of the U.S. economy.

The dollar headed for a weekly loss of over 1% against the euro and the yen on rising speculation the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates. U.S. currency has come under heavy selling pressure since Tuesday after Wall Street's two largest rating agencies signaled that problems in the subprime mortgage market aren't going away and will probably get worse.

"The 0.9% fall in June retail sales is significantly worse than expected and has sparked new U.S. dollar sales," said Marc Chandler, global head of currency strategy at Brown Brothers Harriman.

Confidence drops to nearly 1-year low

By JEANNINE AVERSA, AP Economics Writer
Fri Jul 13, 8:17 AM ET

WASHINGTON - Consumer confidence slid to its lowest point in almost a year as worries about job availability, high gasoline prices and the severity of the housing slump weighed on peoples' minds.

The steep drop disappointed economists and raised fresh questions about consumers' appetite to spend in the months ahead; their spending is a major shaper of the country's economic health.

The RBC Cash Index showed that confidence tumbled to 76.1 in July. That was considerably weaker than June's 81.4 and was the worst reading since last August. The index is based on the results from the international polling firm Ipsos.

You can post all the articles you want for how good this economy is supposedly doing. When it comes down to it, the other decisions this administration has done ie: global warming, stem cell research, health care, gay marriage, most important THE HORRIBLE WAR IN IRAQ, disassociating us from the rest of the world, the forgotten war in Afghanistan.

All those things contribute to the horrible morale in this country.

Stop already with just purely supporting republican agenda's and idea's. It makes you look closed minded and ignorant.

I'm neither republican or democrat. I try having an open idea for everything. But I am anti-this horrible administration. No one with a brain in their head should support this mess of mislead idiots.

To the DOW is not the economy poster...

The thing I love about the stock market is that it is a barometer of the health of the economy and the US as a whole....Things get tough in Iraq, market goes down...unemployment rate falls, market goes up...so while you are correct in that it is not the economy alone, it is a great indicator on the state of economy. A weaker economy will lead to a lower Dow, and visa versa.

A lower USD versus the euro is not completely a bad thing. Wait till next week when the large international compaines start reporting strong profits. A reason that is sure to be cited will be the weaker dollar. Foreigners can afford to buy more US goods.

My deferred comp is up 14%. That's awesome. Ask any financial advisor. People are working (well people that choose to work are working). We need the Bush tax cuts to be permanent. The media will try to bury this good news. Go get 'em George! Despite the bullshit that you've had to endure which is possibly the most since Woodrow Wilson, you are still my guy.

P.S. "Nice" comments from the alleged "I'm not a Dem or GOPer" guy. Yeah right. By the way, gay marriage is wrong, global warming is not Bush's fault and its still not universally accepted by the scientific community, Afghanistan is doing well, the media doesn't report the good things in Iraq (ask a veteran), etc. I guess what I'm trying to say is: Go fuck yourself Al Franken!

Capital growth
Capital growth
Capital growth....

The greatest cure for poverty in any economy is capitalism. Increasing social spending only increases the perceived need for more social spending. 100 years ago very little social spending at all with less poverty. Now increased social spending has resulted in growing poverty.

The real truth is that the greatest problem facing this country is the exponential growth of parents who are not able to financially care for their kids.
