- Our esteemed interim stupidintendent has agreed to allow the Reverends to address an SOS roll call. If you guys walk out and take time, I will adopt one SOS Officer and give him his day's pay. I am sure I can rally enough others to do the same.

We still remember what happened last time a "community activist" was permitted to address a Roll Call. Charlie Williams better remember, too, because he had to go out and apologize to the entire watch on behalf of the Superintendent for allowing that travesty to go forward.
If this is true, we encourage every single officer to take an hour on the front and skip Roll Call at the very least. Then we'd encourage every single one of them to put in PAR forms and come over to the Districts - because if the Department is going to pull this shit every time you justifiably kill someone who might have made your family's life a living hell, how are they going to back you when you really need someone in your corner? How can any boss ever look you in the eye and ask you to go out on the street to enforce the law?
Being in a Unit certainly isn't worth this crap.

Hmmm, being forced to listen to a lecture that second guesses decisions made by fellow officers by individuals who are anti-police, refuse to believe any evidence that the officers acted as they should have, and still believe that we carry around department issued "drop guns". Is it their intention to fill officers with so much doubt that they hesitate when a gun is pointed at them and they get killed and the offenders gets away? Cant this be considered as creating a hostile work environment?
The last thing this department needs is to be giving any validation to these mail-order do what I preach (but I'll do what I want) revs. Since they know absolutely nothing about police work, and even less about how to solve the problems of their community (they do more blame shifting and race baiting then problem solving) they have no right to address us at a roll call. Why do we need to be addressed by them? We didnt do anything wrong. Idiot fights with the police and after using a less lethal tactic he dies from still unknown causes... To bad, dont fight with the police. Idiot points a gun at the police and is fatally shot.... To bad, dont run around with a gun and dont point it at the police. And yet we are being made out to be the bad guys. I know that in the public eye its always a lose lose situation for us. Offender gets away and carjacks and kills someone, why didnt the police stop him? But shoot the same offender when he points a gun at us, Why did the police shoot him? We just cant win with the public either way. But the department heads are supposed to know this too and should stand with us. Its slaps in the face like this that make us feel completely unsupported by the department and is a big reason why moral is so low. Whats next, the bangers addressing roll calls to tell us to ease up on them?
I could go on but I have been having some car problems that I have to work on, wouldnt want it to brake down on my way into work. It would be a damn shame to miss a roll call.

even better yet. get or purchase a cheap pair of earplugs like at the range and after your supervisor has roll call, everyone pull them out and put them on. i think that is better then walking out, walking out make it look like you are the ass. turn it around. and good luck
When you walk out of the roll call and quit your special unit job be prepared to watch your fellow officers who are stating that they fully support your efforts to be lined up to kiss the rump of anyone they think may be able to place them in the assignment that you just walked away from. At the very least the street weasels no how to stick together. We could learn a thing or two from them.
Case in point in 2003 I was working the 14th dist when we had a outdoor roll call and at that time Maria Maher was the DC. During roll call she had a reverend start preaching, and at this time I walked over to my squad car and stood. Later Maria called me into her officer to tell tell me not to ever walk away from the preacher,at this time I told her that our constitution says we have a thing called separation of church and state, along with the fact that I hold god in my own way not the way you or anyone else tells me I should. Shortly after I had to leave the dist as you can all guess how I was treated. If I have to do it over again I will do the same. Never will I stand at a roll call and have some preacher tell me to hold hands.
I will be happy to support a fund to pay these guys for walking out. Go For it start standing up for what is right.

I also heard from a little birdy down at 35th st that the acting supt also made people take anything down that had the previous supts name on it in headqtrs.

I would shit if this roll-call stunt actually comes about. Although, it wouldn't surprise me with the sissy-ass exempts we have running this dog-and-pony show! The P.O.'s could disband S.O.S. on their own, by a mass mutiny. If they screw with you guys like I hear they are, transfer out to the districts and give us a hand. Listen you guys, this is not right but lets look at the bigger picture. We are NOT in the wrong. We did nothing illegal. We are vested by the State, the City and the Federal Government to protect out lives and the lives of others when an offender points a gun at us and attempts to murder us.
The bigger picture is - WHY is Dana Starks contributing to the destruction of the Police Department? Why is he initiating efforts to undermine our legal actions when there has been no legal judgment against us for doing our job?
You have to ask this because he is allegedly our leader but this smacks of someone on a personal agenda. And an agenda that is NOT to rally the community together wih the Police. No, this is something more. Something self-serving.
Prior to his time as Interim Superintendent there was not significant unrest in the black community. To justify his position and to shoe in his candidate for Superintendent since he knows its not going to be himself - he is creating a situation. CREATING one because there is not one.
He refuses to convey the actual facts of this shooting to the community because it serves his agenda for the community to think otherwise. Think about it.
Now, I am against this also but I would not recommend walking out. We would only be playing right into his hands, and appearing to not support the concerns of the community. We know this is not true but our actions have been skewed to the media already by this Superintendent, and if we do this, they will skew this also. We have had to sit and listen to many people bloviate about what they THINk. We can do it again. In the future we can rectify this situation but right now, this is NOT the time to play into a calculating race card playing Interim Superintendent.
THINK ABOUT THIS BEFORE YOU ACT. You could be paving the way for his people and this you DO NOT want.

I work in SOS and this is the first that I have heard of this. When 11 asked for cars and sort/heavy weapons to respond we were immediately told by Risley that no SOS officers are to be in the 11th district. The reason this department blows, not the job because its not a bad job, but the reason it blows is we have no real leaders! We have no one that will make a controversial decision or have the balls to stand up to the revs and citizens.

I see the potential for First Amendment violations being committed against the police officers for being subjected to such infuriating drivel. Explore litigation v. Chicago and clueless exempt moron defendants who would contrive and perpetuate such a waste of taxpayers' time and money.
Aside from being an insult to your collective intelligence, I submit that such abject management stupidity and cavalier and irresponsible behavior is a matter of public concern which should be resolved by Section 1983 litigation in Federal Court, if necessary.
Don't risk insubordination by disobeying a direct order. Take notes, the identities of all principals and witnesses and sue the bejesus out of the City, hopefully into bankruptcy.

I like the Paladin idea, don't do the grade school act and walk out or turn your back.
Show some intelligence and guts and challenge the reverend. Be polite and professional at all times. Let them talk and see where they are taking it, there are some out there that believe it or not are our friends. Just like you can't say all Catholic priests are Pfather Phlagers.
If they start spouting race bating crap, call them out on it.
If they say we are mistreating their youth, ask them where are they when their you starts throwing rocks and bottles.
Ask them where are they when these kids start missing school, selling dope, riding in stolen cars or stealing. These reverends need to preach peace, and fire and brimstone to these kids when they are young.
If they want to send African American ministers to roll calls, I strongly suggest that they send some of our department chaplains. I have met a few of them and they are excellent people.

That is a shame..if I worked that far north, I would have left with you. I have to say, I am not shocked that you went out alone - too mant PO's will not stand up for themself, and in reality, for all of us.

One Sunday, I attended a roll call in 014 to campaign for myself
The television in the roll call room was playing and the baseball world series was on
While I was trying to state my position about issues pertaining to the election, my fellow officers were betting with each other about whether the next pitches would be a balls or strikes, the loser passing a dollar to the winner right in front of me.
This occured for about five minutes until it dawned on me that I should have stayed home and I left.
Id suggest similar treatment for the reverend who shows up for the roll call
Have everybody there. Just sit with your eyes closed and your heads down or some other way to show your disrespect and contempt.

When Raleigh Mathis was the commander of the 003rd District a long time ago, he had one of these rabble rousing revs conduct a summer uniform inspection with him. I nearly went ballistic when this asshole pointed out a perceived flaw in one P.O.'s uniform. Don't think that just because some of these bosses wear the same uniform as you, they have your best interest at heart. Their permanent "uniform" is the one that influences their decisions.
Someone bring the resording device. It's not illegal becauseit is a public address. The Preveand doesn't have any right to privacy speaking to a group. Make sure it is all on tape. It will be great for the lawsuit or just for posting!!!!
How about using some hippie protest tools aginst them. Instead of walking out,burning time, or doing anything that is against general orders, just stand up, silently turn your back to the speaker and wait for them to finish there comments. Do Not engage them, do not entice them, just silently show your own feelings and politley turn your backs to them during their comments. No one can say you didn't attend, or didn't hear, you just politley disregarded their comments. The reverands addressing a room full of officers backs will send a clear message to the speaker. When they are done speaking, resume your original seated positions and listen atttentively to the pertinant information being conveyed during roll call as you normally would.

I would love to be at that rollcall, it hasn't been too long ago that I took two days for pissing off a guest speaker in 010.

You nailed it. Set up a few video recorders in the room. Start it rolling the second you set them up. It is a public forum, and you do have the right to record. If you start the recording as soon as you set it up, you will you wont miss anything, including the bosses telling you to turn them off. If the cameras are there in the good reverends face he wil have to tone down his address or not! Either way you have it on tape. The tape is private property, if a boss orders you to give up the tape, inventory it with you as the owner then had it to him to sign.
There should be at least one hidden video recorder in the room also. There should be a FOP rep in the room also. No where in our contract does it state, the Dept. can order you to attend a religious function of any kind let alone one government proprty.
But as usual the Mayor thinks he is exempt from the U.S. and State Constitution. And we all now he wipes his ass with our Contract.

You show up on time and are scene at role call. nobody said that you have to sit at a role call when a reverand is preaching to you. I am just retired from this job and if the troops stay in that role call and do not walk out on those clowns then they should be ashamed of themselves. once they are done talking go back into the role call room and listen to what your bosses say.... not some shithead gangbanging reverend.
So, what happened? Did the play reverend show up? Enlighten us!

Look up the general orders, cameras (also field glasses and recording devices) without the permission of the commanding officer are prohibited. There are video cameras protruding out of the ceilings, and mircophones in plain view, in the roll call rooms of the newest stations like 10 and 20. So Big Brother can be watching.
It would be better to make and intelligent statement in a strong but professional manner not hold your breath until you turn blue.
Do that and what can they do to you.

I WORK IN TRU AND WAS WONDERING WHY THE BOSSES DON'T SEND US TO 011. I KNOW MOST OF YOU GUYS HATE US, BUT WE COULD SEND AN EXTRA 200 PEOPLE THERE IN CASE SOMEONE IS CALLING FOR HELP, WE WOULD BE THERE TO PROVIDE BACKUP. BY THE WHY HALF THE PEOPLE IN TRU ARE GOOFS, BUT HALF OF US ARE GOOD DECENT GUYS. STAY SAFE!

heres a thought
when those of us that attended the st judes march were marching did anyone else recognise the banners with all the fallen CPD officers names and pictures.
as this will be a "religious " meeting bring those banners and when Rev soapbox stands up everyone at roll call stand at attention and produce those banners everyone not holding a banner light a candle and glare at the "rev"
if the preacher wants to know why we fired on an armed offender we can tell him its our job to protect the public and that many hinorable officers have died doing the same
everyone in SOS attend when the reverend starts his speech everyone stand at attention
