Here a Tax, There a Tax

  • Chicago needs the largest property tax increase in its history - $108 million - to build new libraries and operate existing ones, Mayor Daley said today.
  • But, the mayor was asked how he can justify $193 million in new taxes at a time when the state and county are also reaching for taxpayers' wallets.

"Go talk to the state. Don't talk to me. I don't run the state and I don't run the county.
  • The mayor also defended his decision to double the city's nickel-a-gallon tax on gasoline at a time when Chicago motorists are already paying the highest gas prices in the nation.
  • To finance rising personnel costs and declining revenues tied to the housing slump, the mayor is also considering a 10-cent tax on bottled water, doubling both the nickel-a-gallon gasoline tax and 0.25 percent tax on restaurant meals and raising taxes on parking, liquor and lease transactions.

The impact of the property tax increase would be compounded by a $40.8 million increase in water and sewer rates and a new, $9 million tax on water consumption. The water tax alone would cost the average homeowner $10 a year.

You got that? Taxes up on gas, water, meals, parking, liquor, sewer - and that's just the City. And we're asking for how much of a percentage raise in the next contract? Too bad we don't have any guns around, we're ripe for revolution.

"F" Chicago, "F" Cook County!!!
I'm retired and waiting 18 months until my wife pull the plug. HINT: buy property NOW! somewhere within the continent of the USA, right now you can afford it.....do it even if it's just an investment.
IN 2 to 5 years, you will not be able to afford to stay in this decaying city. Taxes will run you out of here, taxes and no service or better still taxes with out representation......sounds familiar????????

Here's an instant tax relief idea.

Abolish ALL exempt positions on the Police and Fire Depts.

Both of those organizations functioned just fine for 100 years without them.

Basicallty they exist in order to keep political control of those departments.

The English taught us to finance our empire thru the illicit drug trade...25 years we've been at war with the "just say no" politics of the beloved Nancy Reagan. How we doing so far? Any progress in that decade and a half? NOPE! Narcotic's money makes the world go round.

The English aslo taught us to tax our own so heavily that eventually they will snap and retailiate in the form of revolution.

We stand on the verge of change. Good, bad or indifferent, change must come. The establishment has reaped its last drop of blood from this hemorhaged stone.

And on a lighter note...I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance!

from the 'clout city' blog:

"yes, frank
October 2nd - 9:16 p.m.

Yes, Frank, it will work.

The people just have to do it.

1) REGISTER TO VOTE

2) Make a list of every INCUMBENT you deem not worthy of being reelected

3) On Election Day, BRING this list with you to the voting booth

4) DO NOT vote for ANYONE on your list

5) If the INCUMBENT has only one CHALLENGER, vote for that CHALLENGER, no matter who it may be

6) If the INCUMBENT has 2 or more challengers, then:

If the INCUMBENT'S name is listed first, then vote for the CHALLENGER who is LISTED LAST

or

If the INCUMBENT'S name is NOT LISTED FIRST, then vote for the CHALLENGER who IS LISTED FIRST

(This will concentrate the most votes for a SINGLE CHALLENGER, thus providing the greatest possibility of the incumbent losing.)

7) Remember, the INCUMBENTS are the people who have been, are, and will continue to be, the one's responsible for:

Higher than truly necessary taxation

Misuse and abuse of our hard-earned dollars taken from us, by threat of force of law, in high taxes

Burdensome and oppressive laws, the enforcement, persecution and imposition of which are the root causes of much of our economic and social miseries.

Self-serving manipulations of our economy, harmfully affecting the lives of all but the egregiously wealthy.

Neglectful, shameless and asinine public policies, financed by our monies paid in taxes, many solely for the personal gain of those already filthy rich, at the direct expense of those already poor, or soon to be poor.

This is SUPPOSED to be AMERICA.

The LAND of the FREE.

The HOME of the BRAVE.

Have courage, dedicate one's self to compelling change, through the power of your RIGHT TO VOTE.

Independents, honest citizens, anyone NOT beholden to the DUMBOCRATS or RETARDICANS, make every effort to get on the ballot, for whatever office you choose, FLOOD the ballot with honest citizens seeking to serve, enough to overcome any number of shill candidates the two corrupted parties can muster, enter the ELECTION LOTTERY, trust in the God of your choice, see what can happen, when the people actually speak at the ballot box.

HAVE NO DOUBT, VOTE INCUMBENTS OUT"

We need referendums in this state for just theses things....let the people vote. So Daley can build a library? I think he means a day-care for the little rats that hang out in the library's...been to many jobs in 014 's library's & they are a joke...kids running around and causing the usual problems. So much for a quiet time!

I take my kid to the Wilmette Park District to keep away from the fatherless kids here in the city...have to pay a little but better facilities and people.

I have been retired for nearly two years and got out of the city immediately. The spouse and I talked about moving out of Crook County and decided to stay put. After this past week, we are SERIOUSLY talking about moving out of Illinois. Recently drove down south and noticed how beautiful Kentucky and Tennesse are, but we still have a lot of research on the tax base in each state.
P.S. I agree - legalize and tax drugs.
Now, I'm going to have my 2nd cup of coffee.

Daley wants to raise taxes to pay for programs. Does he think money grows on trees. Apparently so. Family faced with a financial shortfall cuts back on expenditures, but not Daley. I can think of one area he can cut back on the 10 million it costs every year for the planters in the middle of the road. And why do we need to water them, even when it is raining? Oh here is another source of income worth over 50 million dollars. Why doesn't Daley go after all the companies in the Hired Truck scandal that got millions of dollars in contracts illegally and did little or no work. Reimburse the city? Oh I'm sorry that would mean Daley would have to go to his closet, I have no, friends and ask for the money back. Worse he would have to go after people and companies that contributed to his campaigns. Another source of money that could be used for offsetting the budget shortfall. Daley could forfeit the campaign contributions he received from the Hired Truck programs that got in the program illegally or once in did not perform any work. What am I thinking, Daley take money out of his pocket, no. Daley take money out of the pockets of friends? and contributors, no. What's left is for Daley to take money out of your pocket and mine. Gotta love the city that works.

KEEP DALEY AWAY FROM OUR PENSION!

With Sgt. Mike Lazzaro being the lone dissenting vote, we want Daley appointees Robert F. Reusche, Stephanie D. Neely, Paul A. Volpe and Steven J. Lux to join elected members Kenneth Hauser, James P. Maloney and Steven Robbins to get our $68,000,000 back.

Most active and retired police despise Daley and certainly do not trust him with a nickel of our hard-earned pension benefits.

Hey Daley , I'm so glad that I've retired and moved out of your HIGH priced HIGH taxed "BULLSHIT' city .
I can't understand why you still have people living in your shit city that don't have to. Some day they will wake up and get the F#$% out . You and that Little F#$% Todler are both trying to tax the hell out of hard working people. Pretty soon you'll have only the people there that are on AID and then what will you two nitwits do.

Mayor eat shit, but thanks for my pension keep them checks coming . I've received 93 of them and I hope I live to see 200.

If Daley and Toddler tax the hell out of us, then we should demand a hell of a raise. On paper it seems we get paid well, but when all the deductions are taken out (not just taxes for non police)we only get a fraction. I've only been on 3 yrs and have been a Chicagoan all my life, but in all honesty I would't recommend this department or this city to someone considering it. Taxes are too high, too much negative publicity for CPD, no genuine leadership, too much construction work, and everything costs twice what it should.

Oh no, not more libraries. Chicago does not need any more libraries. The existing ones are severely underfunded, unsafe, and barely have collections in them. The libraries are also poorly run. They aren't libraries; they are political tokens. If that's what my property tax increase is going for, don't sign me up.

You would do very well in Tennesse - just keep away from Nashville and Memphis. Go a little bit away from the big cities and into a county over. Your money will go a LONG way down there.

If you can - buy some wooded, river/lake front property and hold onto it. You'll earn twice your money in less than five years.

Best of luck!!

Love those minority contracts. Why pay for a normal contractor when you can hire a minority contractor who in turn hires the normal contractor and charges the city three times as much then just hiring the normal contractor.
