Cops Hurt
Three Chicago police officers and one civilian were seriously injured Thursday when a police car and another car collided with each other and then into a building on the South Side.
Paramedics responded to the crash just before 7 p.m. at 63rd Street and Cottage Grove Avenue, according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Richard Rosado.
A Grand Crossing District tactical squad car, carrying three officers, collided with a civilian vehicle and the impact from the crash pushed the cars into a building, according to police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.
No life threatening injuries from initial reports. Best wishes to all officers for speedy recoveries.

The civillian vehicle collided with the tactical vehicle which was traveling with it's emergency equipment activated and with a green light.
The tactical vehicle DID NOT collide with the civillian vehicle.
It happend at 65th and Cottage not 63rd.

It was a pretty bad accident at full speed by both vehicles. Hopefully everyone is alright. This is a good example of the adage "you can't help anyone if you don't get there." The officers will take a couple of days and the city will pay out some money. Slow down and get there safe.

You are not lying. It's a shame how officers look around this department. All of the sudden it's become the cool thing to do to grow a shaggy beard. The majority of the officers with "bump cards" don't need them, they just get their doctor to sign off on it. The cornrows and braids are a friggin disgrace, looks like gangbangers are working in CPD. When departments from other cities and the suburbs see us, they have to think we are a bunch of goofs. The inspectors and w/c's need to quit worrying about open cuff cases and come down of the physical appearence of officers and how shitty some of their uniforms look. I have never seen officers in other departments look as shitty as officers in CPD do. I also wish R&D could have designed a better looking skull cap. That thing is horrible looking and It looks like grade school kids stitched it together, because it doesn't fit right on the human head. I almost think the old ugly trooper winter hat looks better.

SLOW DOWN PLEASE!!! i see it every day, coppers flying to calls etc and risking getting hurt. most of you know 90% of cpd drive with their lights on a churp the horn/siren at the intersections only. i didnt witness this accident and dont believe the news report but its winter outside. when you have your windows up with the heat on while your playing the radio not loud either its hard to hear a siren. i see cpd coppers flying all the time through lights etc. you are suppose to stop at a red light and proceed with caution. why you you be flying in a squad anyways unless its a 10-1 or an officer needs help etc? not me! no 3 year hard-on copper flying in a squad is gonna t-bone me! be safe and god bless! a speedy recovery to the injured p.o.'s.

Amen. I am so sick and tired of seeing this job being disrespected by the officers.
Saint Jude's was a complete shame this year with the GD cops wearing their hats off to the side. Of course everyone of the bosses is afraid to say anything.
Who does the background checks on these guys? Fucking Ray Charles can see that they are nothing more than Gang Bangers and he is blind and dead.
If you refuse to respect the job go back to standing on the corner, or flipping burgers at McDonalds, or whatever it was you were doing before you came on this job and took something away and never gave something back.

All of the injured POs have been discharged from the hospitals that treated them. Hats off to CFD, which did a great job getting everybody out of some seriously crunched up cars! CPD owes you big time, you firemen did a great job in some really nasty weather last night.
Just saw the Commander of he 25th Dist. on TV with his Digby baseball hat. I was reminded of the back door secrity guard at Catfish Digbys.

We only use three(3) codes and that is NOT on of them.
you should see my district the sgts have beards the male officers have pony tails and braids with earings. Respect that is a joke. One guy has a pony tail in braids. I hope the new superintendent gets rid of the BS bumb card and starts treating the CPD like a semi-miltary org. HELP we look like shit.
TRAFFIC accidents 'still' remain the single most greatest killer of Law Enforcement Officers annually.
Chicago was fortunate not to lose an officer in any duty related incidents for last two years in a row! I can't rememember good news like that in my 35+ years on the job.
WE still need to remember ALL our brothers ans sisters in law enforcement by our attendance at the memorials.
Again, the "National Memorial" in D.C. is May 13-15 annually.
SCC graciously allows us to post the Chicago contingent information on this site regarding DC. Until then, mark your calendars. Information will follow within next month or so. Stay tuned.

10% of the department is psychotic
10% is borderline retarded
10% is retarted
15% cannot read
22% cannot write
93% cannot spell
10% do all of the work
90% do none of the work except give out presents to people on the street

Don't blame ALL the bosses on the terrible appearance of some of our fellow officers. Some commanders have taken offense to the shabby looks, but have been told to back off by a higher power, promising that a new directive would be forthcoming, which would be enforced across the board. This was promised some time ago, and it's likely that with everything up in the air, it will be left on the table for J.P. Weis to deal with when he sits down at the Phat Man's desk on the 5th floor at 35th st. But don't think that some exempts don't feel the same way you do, that some roll calls are closely resembling a roll of cages at a kennel or animal shelter.
Who are you to decide what a thug looks like or not. How about the Executives at Enron who took billions and all workers lost their jobs, careers, pensions, etc., and their right to grow old and live off of what they worked so hard for. They all were seen in suits on a daily basis. I consider them thugs!

I like this one. We are talking about our appearance, I don't think braids, finger nails or a blue tooth properly reflects the real issues. What about these fat ass coppers. These old ass coppers. What the hell can either do? The majority of the bosses are out of shape and over half of our patrol division are fat asses or old miserable asses. The department gives us an incentive to stay in shape, use it! I do! I am fit, look damn good in a uniform I might add, I make sure that I have my weapon or even two every day, even if I am going to my garage. Please don't hate because we may have a few well fit, beautiful police women.
