- As frigid high pressure moved east, southerly flow returned to Illinois Thursday. The opening three days of January 2008 averaged some 10(degrees) below normal, 25(degrees) colder than a year ago.
Then what's with these temperatures today?

I have been working Closed market for the past 5 weeks in the 15th district and am amazed how the weather plays a factor. Two of the days were mild and in the 30's and there was plenty of activity and the radio never stopped. Unfortunately we were at a fixed post and decided only to respond to any 10-1's or unless someone was committing a crime right in front of us. NOT OUR FAULT that we are basically useless out there since they don't want us responding to calls even if there is a backlog. The program needs to be suspended until they can figure out what they really want us to do. The patrol units working days are stretched really thin so why not handle paper jobs near our location?
Any way the weather report has now become important to me because the forcast is relative to crime and calls for service.
Off topic of course because SCC you are not qualified to forcast. I had a recent encounter with a TRU Unit supervisor who basically is fed up with all the negativity towards TRU. I myself do not know much about the unit but was interested to know more. I was told that their morale is also at an all time low and production is noticably down due to the recent barrage of negativity towards the police in the media. I was told that there are many members looking to get out and go back to their old units but are being held over just like our military in Iraq. I would love to see the PAR forms if this is the truth. Can someone out there verify this rumor?

Why did Starks issue a order regarding swiping? That sworn members swipe in once a day while civilians swipe in twice a day? Maybe Starks is worried about his elite crew of civilians. But sworn start late and leave early every day in every unit. Then they want civilians to work 8 hours a day? Keep this system fair. Time to closely monitor hours worked by sworn members. Must be fair otherwise the whistle blowing will start.

I predict the no smoking ban will soon have some fatalities.

I think there is part-time Global Warming, coupled with part-time Golbal Cooling, which equals out to basically Full-Time typical weather for this time of year.

Yes, Global warming the reason it was so fucking cold in chicago this past week. Just wait till global warming really kicks in, it will be cold all winter here in Chicago and we may even get some snow.

The average temp. of the earth has increased one half of one degree over the last fifty years. This is why our winters are colder. And yes 1+1+8.
The ice is melting causing the depth of the oceans to get deeper. Yet the world is in a drought and the Great lakes are 28 inches lower then any time in history.
Global warming is nothing more then a way to get millions upon millions of tax dollars in the form of grants to do studies on a well known cycle of events that occurrs on earth every one hundred years or so.
But we all know the real truth Global Warming is all Bush's fault.

Try 35th street, academy and Homan square. Civilians are swiping in and out. Sworn disappear so fast they should work in Vegas. Keep it fair, monitor everyone that works inside.

I'm retiring soon and plan to open a bar/pub/saloon/tavern in northern Indiana (Calumet Ave.) where people can smoke, swear, punch each other (Irish), eat anything and everything fried and park for free. Yes! Free. You can smoke inside or out to your hearts' delight (or detriment). You can even wear your favorite sidearm. (Cops drink free)
My partner and I just had a thirty pac of sliders. And very soon we are going to recycle our methane laden, onion scented flatulence over a thirty pac of millers.
