Not Us, Thank Goodness
- What began as a traffic stop Saturday in Marionette Park became a dramatic crash that ended what witnesses said was a high-speed police chase.
- During the attempted stop, a white SUV allegedly sped off and led police on a chase at speeds up to 115 mph, witnesses said. The vehicle was speeding northbound on Kedzie, when it allegedly ran a red light and slammed into a pickup truck ejecting and critically injuring the driver, sources said.
- Jim Hayden lives just steps away from the intersection of 111th and Kedzie streets. Just before 2 a.m., he said he was about to fall asleep, when he heard what he called a "horrendous noise," and ran outside.
One report said the chase was for traffic, another report said for stolen goods. Either way, if CPD had been involved, we're looking at some major piling on by the media.

put the blame where it belongs. on the jerkoff being chased, not the police. the dude that was being chased had a bunch of illegal drugs.
I was on scene just after the accident happened and just for the record, this was ALL Merrionette Park. We have a "no chase policy" in Chicago and for traffic, this was ridiculous. Mind you, the guy in the pick up should have been wearing his seat belt, but he was ejected from the vehicle and laying in the middle of Kedzie Ave. I'm just glad that the heat is off of CHICAGO this time. For once. If we get involved in something in Chicago a Sgt. will terminate the chase immediately. For traffic, just get 'em another day. Not worth injuring an innocent passerby.
Merrionette Park Police Dept. is the one involved. The department is so small they probably are asking for help from CPD considering the accident location and severity - hence the involvement of MAJOR ACCIDENTS.
Merrionette Parks traffic pursuit policy may not be as retarded as ours.
Wow imagine that! A police Dept where offender are actually persued by the police?!
This new "Naperville" style of policing sounds very interesting. I wonder if it might catch one day here in Chicago
and yet I fail to understand why it's da polices' fault because a piece of shit - oops i'm sorry - an alleged piece of shit decides to run from the police.
oooooh da polices chased the poor innocent bible study major and pharmasist for no reason - they's evil - all of them
Somebody drunk!
CPD WAS NOT INVOLVED! DID NOT COME OVER ZONE 9 TILL A ON DUTY DETECTIVE HEARD THE CRASH AND RESPONDED AND THEN CAME ON ZONE 9. NOTHING PRIOR CAME OVER THE ZONE ABOUT THE CHASE OR EVEN THAT A CHASE WAS GOING ON TILL THE ACCIDENT. MERIONETTE PARK IS HANDLING THE PROSECUTION OF THE OFFENDER.
CPD's only involvement was to do the accident report. Merrionette Park did not let us know they had a chase until 20 minutes after the start.
Why do POs chase anymore? Unless 10-1 or copper calling for an assist I have to agree with city on this one.....
Not Us???
Sure, great it isn't CPD, but every citizen paints the PO-leece with the same brush. So if our surrounding burbs f' up, we're all f' ups to them.

I agree! This dept wants us to do nothing so lets do as they ask! With all the new shiny shoes orders and the wall being set up due to the new boos with white vs blue shirts why any proactive policing at all? Fuck it back each other up anything else whatever happens happens!
Chases are exciting, never know what you have until its over.
Onetime an abduction/rape,then another, armed robbery. another, burglary and yet another a homicide, all in hot cars, plus other hot car arrests, joy riding.
Granted, there are accidents and sometime fatalities. There is a trade off, not sure where it is,but the Dept.evidently knows.
The longest chase I can remember started in 13 and ended up around 80th and Pulaski it looked like a blue parade (the hunt was on).
The driver out ran cars from all the adjoining Dists.on 3 wheels having lost one by hitting a high curb. It happened way back when.
Why chase the guy? Just go to bourbon street and wait for him to show up again.

We can chase for traffic. If the driver is obvious DUI, thats what the burbs said this guy was, so no ones fault we are the police.
Man, that whole area is really changing for the worse! Used to live there years ago, went down there a week or so ago...man. Sad.
Should clarify....I lived on the chicago side.....

Because some of us have this thing in us called being the police. When somebody flees in a vehicle on a t-stop you know he is a criminal trying to get away for a reason. But why chase huh....could be a homocide offender, agg bat w/a handgun offender, UUW, CSA offender, felony drugs, or any other crime. But hey you're right who cares we can just let them all go and wait until we on-view a shooting before we try and apprehend people. Im shure the criminals love it when police like you try to curb them. When you roll over in bed is it a west side reverend or the media that your hugging up to?
For starters, putting YOUR life and ANYONE else on the streets life in danger over TRAFFIC is ridiculous. I understand that Merrionette Pk. is not as fast as the districts in Area 2, and they're looking for some action, but how many times have you gone on the air and said, "Squad, we're following a car" and your Sgt. comes on the air and asks what you're following him for and the reply is, "traffic". It's terminated right there. You don't chase for traffic. Well, not anymore at least. Unless you get creative for your reason for "following" the car, or don't mind risking your career and pension by NOT going over the air with it.
Secondly, you WON'T hear much more about this accident because the "revrins" aren't gonna get involved since the person being chased was WHITE. All inquiries about the accident are to be handled by Merrionette Pk. PD. Moprah won't be touching this one.
who did accident report?? CPD or Merrionette?
THIS IS A LITTLE REMINDER, ALWAYS RUN PLATES OF SUV, CADDILACS FORD EXP, LIC NAV. MOST ARE ALWAYS DIRTY. GOT TWO LAST WEEK, DRIVER SUSPENDED AND WANTED ON A WARrant and ONE ON AN INVESTIGATED ALERT. EITHER CASE I TOWED DUDES CAR. ALSO BE CAREFUL AND STAY SAFE.

WITH THE PIECE OF SHIT DISPATCHERS ON THAT ZONE EVEN IF MERRIONETTE PK. DID CALL IMMEDIATELY, BY NEXT WEEK OUR OEC STILL WOULD'NT OF DISPATCHED THE CALL. I ONLY SAY THIS FROM MY OWN EXPERIENCE ON AND OFF DUTY. GOD BLESS THE MERRIONETTE PK. POLICE TOP GUNS
I have to agree with the second poster here. Imagine if a family member of yours happened to be driving along minding their own business when they get t-boned by this goof running from Merrionette Park PD for some stupid traffic tickets. It's not worth it. Now, if the offender was being chased for a forcible felony, then "the chase is on". Seems that whenever a pursuit is terminated or doesn't even get a chance to start because of a department pursuit policy, the younger guys all chime in that the policy is silly and they can't do their jobs. Well, putting innocent lives at risk for a potential traffic ticket is not part of police work. I've done this job for over 27 years and I've had more than my share of pursuits, but as I gained experience and wisdom, I soon realized that most chases were not worth the potential deadly consequences for both the officers involved as well as the innocent motorists in the path of the chase.
Because we are not involved you will never hear about it again.
Why do POs chase anymore? Unless 10-1 or copper calling for an assist I have to agree with city on this one.....
oh i don't know, maybe they want to catch bad guys
"....illegal drugs."
Prohibition never achieves what it is purported to achieve.
Never.
It always increases both the desire and demand for what is prohibited.
Human beings, of whatever age, gender, ethnicity, personality, character, intelligence, socio-economic 'class', upbringing, etc., will always seek to experience what they desire.
Prohibiting what they desire only increases the monetary values of what is desired, the basic forces of supply and demand in action.
The only very small part of Ronald Regan's 'War On Drugs' that has ever had the slightest morsel of authenticity to it is the goal of encouraging others to 'Just Say No' to 'drugs', and even that has rarely been intelligently utilized by anyone involved in the concept's application.
An honest, intelligent and sincere analysis, of the demographics of who 'uses' which prohibited drugs, and for what purposes, from the obvious supply side economic motives to the variety of consumer motivations, could result in an honest, truthful, fact based understanding of both the 'problems' and solutions to the widely spread misunderstandings that so pervade our society.
But that would require that citizens, including those who are employed in governments, to both want to solve the 'problems' and be honest enough to acknowledge that the 'war on drugs' is not what it is claimed to be or ever has been.
Not likely, in our present, societal state of dysfunction, hypocrisy, greed, deceptions, and apparently unlimited capacity to lie to ourselves.
Personal freedoms slipping away, all courtesy of the lack of honesty in all of us.

Dude should've crashed into Mt. Greenwood Hardware. Hell, the resulting fire and explosion would've forced 'em to finally re-organize that place. Even when I ask the folks working at that place, I can never find anything there...
That's why we have cameras in the vehicles, right?? Just get a shot of the license plate and get them later...yea, they'll say wasn't me, or it was my baby's daddy driving, or my car was stolen, etc...but all we need is legislation to write tickets on anything that flees...no matter who is behind the wheel.

Are you nuts? That place is great. They have stuff that no one else has, items that have been discontinued for years. When you need a part to fix your 50 plus year old house and the company that made the broken item has gone out of business 40 years ago they are the place to go. Remeber, shop local.

I guess it would be worth it if some member of your family was T-boned by an offender being chased by a suspected, forcible felon.

Brilliant.
A drunk driver being chased by a hot-to-trot cop.
I wonder what outcome can be expected?
Unless its family or officer down I don't case. The city will gladly take your badge and pay check and the offender family will hire a lawyer who will take you in civil court. How will you tell your wife and kids that they cant go to private school anymore becase we had to catch the 5 time fleeing felon? I wish we had old timers to set these "real police" straight. Its not the 70's and 80's anymore.
Hell yeah, I needed one of those chimney clean out doors and they had it.Try getting that somewhere in the 8th district. Just go downstairs thats where they hide the good stuff.

Here's a thought:
Run the plate, get the registered name and address, drive there, wait for the dui to pull up and park, then make the arrest when the dui gets out of the vehicle.
If you're so determined to make an arrest and you're thinking the dui won't necessarily be going home, follow at a discrete distance, you know how to do that, don't you, and wait until the dui parks and exits the vehicle.
Or don't you have the patience to do real police work?

Amazing police work. This guy makes two arrests in a week and he is giving out tips. Here a tip for you. Stop talking out loud, let all those gems you think of remain in your head, you will appear much smarter.

Damn right there. It's the only place that has blanks for my 50 year old house keys. And before you say it, I decided to get ADT instead of replacing five doors. BTW, NEVER go to Evergreen Door and Window without getting another estimate!
Just my two cents. Have a nice day.
