And Speaking of More With Less

Expect less equipment, less training, and something else....

Oh yeah, less officers:
  • $5 million by slashing nonpersonnel costs by 3 percent. Police, fire and the Office of Emergency Management and Communications will share the pain.
  • $2 million by cutting police, fire and 911 center overtime not critical to public safety and by eliminating nonsafety overtime in all other city departments, including building maintenance.
  • The bulk of the $20 million in expected savings comes from the hiring freeze at $11 million.
Like sending home an entire class of recruits and failing to keep up with the pace of retirements. And they want to keep telling us we're down index numbers? Anyone really wonder why?

Speaking of inflation, has anyone purchased ammunition lately?

Wow,it has doubled and tripled in price.

The salesman told me that it is due to several factors;transportation costs increasing, metals have gone through the roof, liberals have cost plenty of money with frivolous lawsuits that need to be defended and war diversions on some calibers.

If you see a good sale stock up and post it on SCC so that we can all jump on it.

The real reason that class of recruits was put on hold, No Money?

Graet idea Mayor, Stroger, Blago, raise taxes on every little thing and wonder why people can't pay and are going else where to buy items.

All our retail stores will be leaving for collar counties where they pay less tax and can sell cheaper.

Thanks again boys.

Hiring freeze with CPD has started already. Last recruit class was Oct. 2007. 300 retired in 2008 as of march, and the numbers continue. After April, no more recruit classes will hit the street this year. How can they continue to use 13,500? Amazing how they toss that number around every day. Let the press question Daley and have him admit he is cutting the size of street officers. Pulling 50 officers from inside is a very temporary and waste of time exercise. We need officers in a squad car. How many students have died this year?

They can really save money by not replacing the obsolete computer in my squad car that is still running Windows 98. They can continue to not replace vehicles and not having money tied up in pool vehicles. They can continue to have shit training and broken computers and other equipment in district stations. They can keep those 5 shotguns in the district that have been there my whole career.

As for my part, I will save money on shoe polish by not buying any and I will continue to buy my uniforms at the FOP resale shop. And I will not cost the city any money in lawsuit settlements by not abusing anyone's rights or arresting anyone who doesn't jump in front of my squad car and absolutely demand to be arrested. Even then I will need more evidence and investigation.

That said, the only thing important to me now on this job is to make it to the end of my tour safely and to help my co-workers do the same. Backing up other police is the only thing I take very seriously.

THe saddest thing about Daley and Stoger and all the other idiot politicans that want higher taxes is that they don't understand that the way to get more revenue is...LOWER TAXES! When you cut taxes, businesses come into your town and set up shop, tourists spend more money in restaurants and hotels, more conventions are held in your city, shoppers prefer to shop where the taxes are less, and more people want to live where the tax burden is less.

Cancelling the recruit class is a short-term fiscal move...it will look good on paper for the next fiscal quarter...but in the long run the effects will be devastating. (The murder and other violent crime rates will rise, more injuries to the short-handeed coppers already out there) These are things that make people move away, businesses close shop, and joblessness to rise.

How about getting rid of the "Watch Commander's Aggravated Battery reports" when there is a shooting in the districts?

Some Watch Commander's who are close to their end of Watch wind up doing these silly reports and milk the overtime (the taxpayers dollars) at an average of $65.00 an hour ! !
We had a new lieutenant in our district who raped the city for 6 hours at time and a half for this bullshit report.

These stupid unnecessary reports are redundant . . something that the detective division should do if they want to contribute information to the weekly DOC Meetings.

Start auditing the overtime slips for all Lieutenants and Captains (Title Codes: 9173 and 9175)
and see what bullshit lies are being generated to steal taxpayer's money !!!!

Eliminate all corporate welfare programs, eliminate all welfare programs masquerading as government services for those employed by governments, eliminate bloated city, county, state and federal government payrolls, starting with the executive branches, eliminate corrupted contractor deals on the city, county, state, and federal levels, eliminate all laws prohibiting the consumer demanded 'vices', ie., gambling, prostitution and controlled substances, and regulate and tax same, eliminate the interference of organized religions, via religious dogma attempting to impose individual religious morality onto everyone by infecting legal principles, (something we object to when religions other than our own attempt to do so and conveniently ignore the hypocrisy of said objections), restore the effective separation of church and state and the freedoms said separation provides, eliminate compulsory public education, replacing it with substantially tax financed vouchers and free market opportunities for educational enterprises, non-profit or for-profit, as the consumer demand requires, return governments, at all levels, to the minimum required to provide only the essential public services that the private sector cannot more efficiently and economically provide, and see if the American public can handle living as Americans, freely, responsibly, honestly, and independently.

Sorry- thats simply not true. We have just under 13,500 sworn- that number is legit no matter how you look at it- now of course we remove the supervisors, the 700 or so on medical or IOD, those detailed out, and we are left with much less- I haven't crunched the actual numbers lately- but I have in the past and my guess would be around 7,500 actually on the beat...

Yes, YES!! As expressed in the full posting from our neo-communist brother in arms, 3/15/2008 01:39:00 AM!

What part of people exercising their freedom to reject being pawns in the games the wealthy manipulators play is bothering you?
By 'part of people', do you mean the 'wee-knee of the proletariat'? I luv when you talk soviet, comrade, it really gets my computer hard drive humming...

What part of the desire for a healthy American economy and society do you find displeases you?
None, comrade. If I made you angry, please forgive, I just want to be the best neo-communist I can be, like 3/15/2008 01:39:00 AM. This comrade would give Karl Marx wet dreams.

What kind of an American do you think you are?
You, of course, silly red bear. If you are an American, comrade, then so am I. We are both cut from the same red cloth.

Or think you can successfully pretend to be?
I am just trying to 'successfully pretend' like you, comrade. The eloquent posting from 3/15/2008 01:39:00 AM has to have been written by a real neo-communist like you and I, comrade. Only a true believer in the red cause to free the proletariat from the servitude of the capitalist oligarchs could have scribed such a fiery piece of soviet-style oratory as this. Lenin would be proud of the lack of even basic sentence and paragraph structure. I'm trying to learn the fine art of scribing 1000 word run-on sentences but it aint easy, I just can't seem to get the hang of it. Please be patient, comrade.

If you are, in fact, an American at all?
I think I am, comrade. I was born in Poughkeepsie, NY. I'll check and get back to you.

If you are, in fact, a person who understands the principles and promises inherent in our American Constitution and Bill of Rights and believes in their worthiness to be aspired to achieve?
Not sure if that's a question or even a sentence for that matter, comrade, but like you always say to yourself: Who needs 'principles and promises' when you can have 'rhetoric and the Second Amendment'? As long as we can carry guns, comrade, the God of our choice will guide us into the light of the chosen, non-believers be darned.

Or are you just a measly mockery of an American?
Don't be so hard on yourself, comrade, I'm just a direct reflection of you.

Just wondering.
Keep on keeping on then, and don't forget to flush. And wash you hands when you're done.

Hmmmmm.

10:00AM & 10:17AM

Melvin is dependable.

Melvin slides into his 9 to 5 city job, unwinds from that stressful commute from the burbs and, while enjoying the first of his morning 'coffee breaks', taps out his amusements.

How special and how sincere Melvin is, and how pleased he must be, at getting paid, by the taxpayers, to perform no useful, to the taxpayers, work, to be so secure in his comfort and to take such delicious pleasure in his perspectives on the ways of the world.

A prince amongst men, Melvin is.

He fits right in with those of like mind, as is his wish.

He cherishes his good fortune at being so suited to the position he's chosen for himself.

He rejoices in the security of knowing that, as long as he's still able to ignore that ever diminishing little voice of decency that, we presume, once was almost audible to his consciousness, he'll never need concern himself about anyone other than himself.

He celebrates, daley, the gathering and accumulating of the things that he must know he cannot keep forever, but, being proficient at bullshitting others, Melvin has also perfected bullshitting himself.

Relishing the true meaning of the phrase, 'Ignorance Is Bliss', Melvin tip toes through his life, deliberately unaware of anyone, other than Melvin and those who can be persuaded or enticed to assist Melvin in servicing Melvin.

And yet, even Melvin won't be able to cheat death, no, cheating death isn't as easy for Melvin, or any of his peers, as cheating the taxpayers has proven to be.

Try cutting a deal with the Grim Reaper, Melvin, and see how that works out.

Time waits for no man, even such a man as Melvin.

Now, Melvin, it's time to get back to pretending that you're working.

Actually, you've come close to being reasonable.

Zoning will take care of the issue of where the markets for vice businesses will be located, much as for industrial, manufacturing, commercial, residential, etc., does.

The opportunity for employment for current, ex or retired police personal, as well as those with military experience, is obvious.

The removal of illegal markets infesting every residential neighborhood is also an obvious effect of legalizing, regulating and taxing the three 'vices'.

If you don't like, use or approve of vice activities, don't patronize those businesses selling those vices to the consumers who want them.

If you don't want those vices being engaged in, in your community, implement the suggestions you so readily mock and the lawful zoning of vice businesses will remove them from your community far more effectively, efficiently and certainly than any amount of enforced prohibition ever could.

If you really wanted to put an end to the activities you object to being conducted in your neighborhood, you'd be first in line to vote into office everyone supporting the very suggestions you have objected to.

The only people strongly opposed to the legalization of gambling, drug availability and prostitution are those who profit from the illegality of same.

And those who are so gullible as to allow their personal perspectives on morality to be used as an excuse to maintain the lucrative illegal status of the three vices.

Apply your personal morality upon yourself and leave the judging of others to God, as you have been instructed to, by God.

That is, if you believe in God, and your obligation to do as you are told to, by God.

Can I still praise the God of our choice while you stand in line with me at the regulated and taxed gambling, prostitution and open air controlled substance market in your next door neighbor's garage? You can still hold my hand or some other appendage...Thanks!

As the generous owners of this site have seen fit to allow this little exchange of opinions, (both a surprising occurrence and a not so surprising occurrence), they can end the exchange whenever they choose to.

I presume they are as amused at the sequence of comments as any have been, thus the allowance of same.

On the off chance that this comment may make it to the board, I'll try to simplify the concept, just for you, to wit:

1. The three vices have been with humanity for as long as there have been human beings.

2. The desires of one grouping of human beings to impose their perspectives upon another grouping of human beings, for the presumed purpose of 'improving' or 'correcting' the chosen behaviors of said other grouping of human beings, has also been around for a long, long time.

3. The vehicle used by the self-styled righteous has typically been the claiming of religious or moral superiority, said claims being, in part, supported by truth and reality and, in part, by basic self interest.

4. If we accept, as fact, that the three vices are, indeed, vices, as in behaviors less helpful/more harmful to society as a whole, then the problem requiring solution can be stated as 'what actions will be the most effective and efficient at removing the harmful effects of these vices from impacting the general public'.

5. The proposals which have been so graciously allowed to be discussed will not result in causing anyone harm, other than those currently profiting from the illegality of the three vices, those who choose to use their freedom to over-indulge in the three vices and those who choose to be employed as the providers of said vices AND find that their own, personal experience at doing so is not as much to their liking as first imagined.

6. The immediate effects of the physical/geographical segregation of the providers of 'recreational' substances, gambling and prostitution, through legalization and zoning, are obviously beneficial to the residents of those communities currently suffering under the effects of the illegality of same.

7. The elimination of the misuse of law enforcement resources, currently acting as agents of an artificial price support system maintaining the profits of those engaged in all the aspects of the providing of the three vices to those consumers desiring to purchase same, will have the immediate effect of providing a greater number of law enforcement officers to address the commission of the natural crimes, as in acts of violence and the various forms of theft.

7. Further, the reductions in the costs of purchasing 'recreational' substances, currently inflated far above their actual costs to produce, will remove a certain portion of the motivation driving the commission of crimes of theft, with or without violence involved.

8. Off duty, ex or retired law enforcement officers, as well as those individuals with military experience, will be in demand as security personnel, for the geographically segregated vice providers' facilities, and welcomed by those consumers whose only desire is to satisfy their desires to enjoy indulging in any or all of the three vices, relatively free from the dangers and risks now prevalent under the current 'three vices are illegal' system.

9. The taxing and regulating of the three vices will be the definition of 'to play you've got to pay', rather than the current definition relevant to political corruptions, and, I suspect, an extremely lucrative to the taxpaying public arrangement.

10. Finally, the truly effective, (at discouraging indulgence in activities defined as vices), forces, those being social, economic/employment, insurances and internal family pressures, will now be the deciding factors in an individual determining what is more important, indulging in the pleasures of vice experiences or enjoying the pleasures of a loving family, respectful friends and associates and social/community approval.

For what it's worth, I thank the owners of this site for their generosity and their patience, whatever they choose to do with this humble submission.
