Mette Hostage to Cash?
This is ludicrous. We got a letter from Mike Mette's father and the situation in Iowa is just defying explanations:
- Visited Mike over the weekend and he is in surprisingly good spirits considering the Iowa powers to be keep walking on his rights and messing with him.
Going back to his trial, the pre-sentencing investigator completed a ten page report saying there is no way Mike deserved to go to jail on this case. Of course the judge, prosecutor Gallagher and Jacob's father Curtis Gothard saw it differently.
His counselor in jail said he couldn't file for parole until he finished an anger management class where he was taught he shouldn't respond with force unless he was in danger of being attacked or as in his case he was hit three times before he responded with one punch as pointed out in the judge's ruling. He finished the course and his counselor put him in for a parole hearing on 4-16-2008.
The parole board sent Mike a letter saying: "They didn't feel he was able or willing to full fill his obligations as a law abiding citizen. They didn't feel it was fair to society to release him on parole." How do they come to these conclusions having never interviewed Mike or looked into the facts of the case? They now want him to complete a victim impact course which doesn't start til August 2008 and in six months they will again consider him for parole. Who are they kidding? How many more times can the State of Iowa Violate Mike's Rights?
And part of the motivation Mike is getting fucked over?
- The parole board is either listening to the lies Curtis Gothard and prosecutor Gallagher have failed to prove in court, has no idea what this case is about or they are just playing the money game. You see the prison gets another $18,000 June 1st 2008 if Mike is still there and another $18,000 if he is there January 1, 2009.
Meanwhile Gothard has racked up two DUI's. Un-freaking-believable.

The prison system in America is corrupt? Just a money maker for politicians to bring home the bacon. You don't know how bad the system is until you started focusing on Mike's case.
Inmates who have no family, no friends are fucked! The food and water is shit. Basic necessities are limited and outside assistance $ makes all the difference. But, our prison system is still better then a third world has to offer.

Let me save you all a trip to Iowa: Take those few hundred cops that the other champion of justice posted about and have them ride the buses to Operation P.U.S.H. headquarters. Jesse Jackson will then lead a march to City Hall where you all can come to the podium and tell the world that the Iowa D.O.C. is keeping a good white cop locked up because it is profitable for the state to do so.
And if that's true, how much more corrupt must the Illinois D.O.C. be?
Illinois will see to it that Mette is freed the next day if they have to send the National Guard to Iowa to do so.

Let's see if we can get his commissary account over $20,000.00. Maybe we can send donations to the jail. That way when he gets out, the jail (county) has to issue him a nice fat check. Anybody know the address? Fifty bucks a pop. You pay around that much for local benefits. Includes gas, food, soda, tickets and auctions. Or even 30 bucks. But 50 X 2500 = 125,000.00 or 30 X 2000 = 60,000.00
If everyone that signed the petition would give whatever they can afford, it'll show them what kind of support he has.
There is something very fishy about this. Mike is due for a parole hearing and he is denied parole before even having a hearing. How common a practice is this? Sounds like Gothard's clout is behind this. In Cook county, you can be a repeat offender and get much less time than Mike has already served. I'm sure we all can come up with numerous examples. I know of a guy that had a rap sheet longer than my arm with numerous convictions. Was convicted for PCS and agg batt to PO. Got 3 years for PCS and 3 years for agg batt to be served concurrently. He was out in about 7 months!

The victims father who is a political money guy, the prosecutor who most likely benefits from the contractors money and donations and by the judge who proved that someone can be bought and paid for. If I remember there is a police officer that is a boyfriend of the "victim's" family.
Writing a traffic ticket is not going to help Mike Mette in any way. What has a potential of helping him is to find out the truth of who is connected to who and the history of the judge, the clouted father, the prosecutor and maybe a couplt of clouted policemen.

You may have a point, In the early 90's half of the "COUGH!!" Democratic voters we stopped up north also had a Wisconsin address. They would go up there and collect a welfare check from cheese head land. Wisconsin wised up and started checking residences and also required that welfare recipients do, heaven forbid, some work for their check. Wow, I sure hope you are not CPD. First of all I said ten dollars, not the check. Next I said pick out any three benefits, guys with cancer, heart transplant, other illnesses. It would be great to give to Mike's defense fund too. And for the record, I don't think any of the facts in this case are in dispute. Mike was followed a great distance and battered three times before he defended himself, which is everyones right. He hit his attacker once who is still alive and well and racking up a handful of DUIs.

I saw a documentary on Iowa prison system. What a joke. I don't mean to sound like some wishy-washy liberal, but most of the kids in this documentary had no business serving any hard time. They were serving several years for offenses that would be considered petty in most other states. They bragged about all of their great rehab programs for young offenders and in the next breath admitted to a huge return rate for parolees. Exsqeeze me?
I saw this documentary on msnbc's Lockup Series.
The documentaries are usually pretty unbiased but this one was all liberal propaganda obviously covering up the real issue: over funded bullshit programs that don't work.
If you ask me Iowa took a page right out of Illinois' book on how to rip of the tax-payers.
Time to invade iowa.

Perhaps this has been discussed before, but if so, I don't remember it. Is there an kind of appeal going forward to the higher courts in Iowa? I would imagine that if there are any grounds one would be going on. I would think tht the severity of the sentance would be a reasonable starting place. Maybe some organized donations to fund an appeal would be appropriate.

They are just stalling the inevittable appeal until the statute of limitations on a federal suit is up. Mike should file this immediately before it's too late. Remember, false arrest starts the moment you are arrested not when you are determined to be innocent.
