A man shot Sunday night near where 18-year-old Albert Vaughn was beaten to death with a baseball bat late Saturday, occurred at a makeshift memorial for the slain teen, police said.
Just after 8 p.m., a man in his 20s was shot in the wrist in the 7000 block of South Throop Street, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.

Did anyone else hear the audio clip on WBBM 780 AM Sunday where J-Fed was talking about how he and his driver convinced a pregnant teenage mother of three not to bring a knife to a gun fight? He sounded like a PPO telling his first war story...which actually, he probably was. Now imagine doing that 3 or 4 times a night and you begin to see where even young cops are cynical and a middle aged FBI retiree thinks he's doing real police work.

Cook County Board President Todd Stroger already spends more than $1 million a year on public relations, but that apparently isn't enough.
Stroger is set to bring on a p.r. consultant, records show, to help improve his image and that of the hospital system he runs.
Stroger spokeswoman Ibis Antongiorgi wouldn't say what Stroger plans to spend on the consultant, or where the money will come from. Nine people responded to Stroger's request for proposals soliciting bids for the p.r. contract. Antongiorgi said the consultant will report to Stroger and his communications chief, Gene Mullins.
Mullins is taking a one-year leave from his city police job to work for Stroger, a childhood friend.

A message to the old timers,
When I came on, roughly ten years ago, I was full of piss and vinegar and wanted to go out every night to chase the thugs and gangbangers.
When I saw you "old timers" casually reading magazines or getting coffee in between handling your jobs, I thought "wow, are they lazy." I couldn't imagine why you weren't out there trying to get one or two heads a day instead of doing the bare minimum.
Now in my somewhat older age, I would like to apologize.
Going through bullshit CR's and lawsuits due to being the "real police" makes one look at things differently. Seeing friends take time on bullshit beefs makes one look at things differently. Now knowing the politics of this job makes one look at things differently.
Most importantly, today's state of policing where one can lose one's job/house or get sued/indicted at the drop of a political hat, this makes you put things in perspective.
I see now what I thought was indifference was actually intelligence.
I am happy to say I have seen the light. I'll answer my calls and write some paper here and there. No more being proactive, it'll only get you jammed up and hung out to dry. And at the end of my 29 and a day, if I stay that long, I'll enjoy my pension.
A note to PPO's, respect the old timers, they are still around for a reason.

My flock feels, that although it is not right to shoot at the police, they are severely outnumbered when they choose to do so. Fair fights have been an institution in this country since Abraham Lincoln founded it.
I'd like to thank Mayor Daley and Superintendant Weiss for understanding this culture gap and setting it straight by putting commanders on the streets to call off these obviously unfair fights, even when they are the ones under attack. Now, that's integrity.

Are you aware of the cover-up of an FBI allegation against Weis and Robert Jordan regarding retaliation against FBI whistle blower and S/A Robert Wright when he was assigned to counter-terrorism in Chicago?

I come from the crew of hard working get the really bad guys off the street police. Hey J-Fed enjoys being the Supt. He actually is starting to like getting his picture taken. The man's got an ego and thinks he's going to make a difference. Just like that first love that goes sour- he will learn the hard way.

More cops on the street less at administrative positions. He only took 50 POs outside and there still isn't any parking available at HQ. There are 250 POs TO MANY at HQ. These POs are doing nothing but repetitious paper pushing and civilian related jobs. Take all 250 and you still have enough to do the BS work at HQ.

So let me get this straight, I did not hear the story about J-Fed bragging about "talking" to a pregnant girl and patting hismelf on the back becuase he talked her out of bringing a "knife to a gunfight." As I see it, wasn't there a Police Captain in 022 about a year or so ago who was off duty and chased down a murder offender who just killed a teenage girl in Mount Greenwood.
The murderer turned on the Captain and threated to kill him while pointing a knife at him. The Captain pulled his gun and told him "you don't take a knife to a gunfight" then chased the murderer down, and wrestled with him in an alley - holding him down unitl help arrived.
I guess that's the difference between a Fed wanna be cop and a real Big City Cop. Feds talk a good game, but a Cop walks the walk.
If its the Captain I'm thinking off, he's no kid, in his 50's with a pot belly, not a power lifting weight lifter mother fucker like J-Fed, this Captain probably wouldn't pass a police physical like J-Fed would, but I'd rather have this Captain back me up on a "man with a gun" call at 3AM then some useles fuck J-fed...

My only concern is that those who policed before us had two things going for them that we do not. 1. A city that respects them. 2. A dept. that backs up the officers that work for them! Dude, you're a meat stick. If this were true, do you know how many law suits would be filed? How much back pay they'd get? They could look at the numbers of CR's all day long. Most complaints filed are lies. Piece of sh8 gangbangers (and (in)-signifacant others) call all day long just to fk with the cops. The media put it out there about CR tallies. (no names). I know the union is pretty much useless now-a-days, but we have contractual rules in place and dept. guidelines that have to be followed before anyone gets clipped from the job.

Northside was arrested on a bogus misdemeanor by Raymond Risley, Jerry Robinson, Louis Velez and the other IAD Confidential Unit rats serving as Daley's KGB. The case was thrown out, the arrest record was expunged, Northside later picked up his Glock from the same gun store and the City was forced to pay. Northside would have won the whole retaliation case against Leroy Martin, Joseph Curtin, Toby Burton and the other bosses if he hadn't been naive enough to trust the double-crossing Richard Brzeczek as a lawyer. He sabotaged John's case by letting the statute of limitations run before filing the lawsuit. Northside fired him and new lawyers forced the city to pay.
In his case, the city ignored Northen's complaints about the rigged promotions because his charges and proof were documented indisputable facts.
Then with help from that sell-out Peter Karl of Channel 5, Daley covered up the whole outrage and threw Northen under the bus.
Now along comes this J-Fed speaking out of the left side of his neck about professionalism, leadership, integrity, excellence, etc. (remember his P-O-L-I-C-E acronym?) This phony weasel is all cheap talk while it's business as usual: Chicago style.
Knowing Northside, I'm sure he wants to hold J-Fed's feet to the fire about his so-called reforms and to give him sincere advice. Since J-Fed is in Daley's hip pocket, he will ignore Northside.
Northside probably has more felony arrests than all the exempts combined and it would take 2 of them to match his total I.Q. score.

I don't know about other districts, but in mine, the beat cars kept going down over the air to "upload" their cameras. I swear they were doing it just so they could waste some time and make the other cars in the district do all their work!
Even the sergeants in the dist were forced to handle calls while the beat cars were uploading their cameras.
If this is any indication of what summer will be like, then we're all fucked!

Those days are over, old salt. Too many lawyers, and far too many cameras out there now. True, the citizens feared and respected us...
the downside, the numerous ABUSES that have led to the modern day "hands off-don't touch" policing style of today. Our word, our mere presence in a courtroom meant something, as did the uniform. None of what I've described is the same now. Today, it's all about survival. As one boss told me, "Son, it's a marathon, not a sprint." Gotta cross that finish line with my family, health, pension and sanity intact. That is all.
with the recent wave of shootings this past weekend it makes me wonder if that SGT crossley had a point. i think he is vendicated in that the police should be more aware of whats out there and whos shooting at us. we need those rifles to level the playing field the la shootout could happen here
