Chicago police have been involved in at least eight shootings in the last two weeks, including five that were fatal.
Saturday's marchers claimed the deadly force has been unwarranted.
"Enough is enough. If you cant' do the job, you're scared to come to our neighborhoods, maybe you need to find another profession," said Ashanda Harrison, the aunt of a shooting victim.
"You expect them [children] to get shot, growing up in the city, by some thugs on the streets, but not by the Chicago Police Department," said another woman attending the march, who was identified as a shooting victim's mother.

As a watch commander who has worked in districts in both Area 1 & 2, I'm constantly amazed by the amount of arrests the officers in these districts make. For whatever reason, the officers in 007 in particular cannot stop themselves from making bullshit arrests (ie. selling loose cigs, DOTPW, etc...)
While I can't say it at roll-call, I can say it here, so pay attention:
STOP MAKING ARRESTS!!! LET THE WHOLE CITY GO TO HELL!!!

Hate to say it but after reading the comments on this blog I think the police are losing it. I am studying criminal justice at Truman City College and I work for the TSA as a screener. I am a proud resident of Homan and Huron located on the Westside of Chicago. If the perception of the people is that Chicago Police are violent and engaged in indescriminate shootings it does not matter what the truth is. It does not matter that the majority of the victims were maybe thugs who presented a danger to themselves, the community, and the police with whom they were caught up in a vortex of violence. The bottom line is a significant portion of the citizenry believe that Chicago Police Officers are an army of occupation. Something has to be done to change the image of the Chicago Police Department. Even white folks on the north and south sides have a jaundiced view of y"all after watching the beat down of that Polish bartender or watching Officer Herrera on 60 Minutes. White folks reading the newspaper about Officer Finnegan probably are no doubt not to pleased with the city constabulary. So guys this might be a long hot summer. Hopefully cooler heads will prevail and somebody from city hall will have enough sense to talk to folks that perhaps they don't like or even respect and bring the fever down on the street. I also hate to tell you that police officers with rifles and armored cars are not the answer. Look at Iraq a whole lot of young promising American lives have been lost to folks who a lot of y'all thought of as illiterates, savages, and sand ...... As a fellow officer with 4yrs on the job, I must say, this job is no joke, I knew when I took the oath I am here to protect and serve, BUT with this new administration its no wonder as an officer we are left to hang and dry like a criminal, no longer are the days where we can enjoy going out to dinner or enjoy the time away from work to spend it with family and friends in a social enviornment. I for one have forsaken the department, no more will they get the "aggressive" officer, I will do my job and come home safely. My duty now is to go to work and come home alive. I feel sorry for the department because morale is at an all time low and we are simply not appreciated nor are we respected for the job we do. First off, the police aren't 'losing it', they're finally getting it.
Second, there's a huge difference between the bullshit you're being taught and real life.
Third, if you are, indeed, employed, you're one of the few in your neighborhood, which, by the way, has a long way to go for anyone to be proud of it, for a variety of reasons. Homan (Kimball) and Huron may not be as bad as often as many other areas, but it's still far from civilized, by any measure.
Finally, the police are, in greater numbers with every passing day, 'chilling out', that's what the 'people' want, that's what they'll get.
How the police choose to 'chill out' is what will stimulate changes, not some miracle being pulled out of the asses of the assholes in city hall.

A friend bought a bird feeder, hung it on his back porch and filled it with seed. What a beauty of a bird feeder it was and he filled it lovingly with seed.
Within a week he had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the continuous flow of free and easily accessible food.
But then the birds started building nests in the boards of the patio, above the table, and next to the barbecue.
Then came the poop. It was everywhere: on the patio tile, the chairs, and the table.... everywhere!
Then some of the birds turned mean. They would dive bomb my friend and try to peck him even though he had fed them out of his own pocket.
And others birds were boisterous and loud. They sat on the feeder, squawked and screamed at all hours of the day and night and demanded that my friend fill it when it got low on food.
After a while, he and his wife couldn't even sit on their own back porch.
So, he took down the bird feeder and in three days the birds were gone.
He cleaned up their mess and took down the many nests they had built all over the patio.

Think about it.

The newspapers don't.
TV shows don't.
How many friends, family members or liberal suburbanites have you told the truth to about the inner city. And you know how shocked they are to hear the stories. Some even call you a racist because you tell a true account of the facts of a crime story.
Police officers are basically the leak of truth of what happens in the inner city. They know it and they don't want the liberal whites turning against them and taking their government and organization freebies taken away from them.

I have an idea for a "PILOT PROGRAM"....since Jesse Jackson and all of Area 1 and Area 2 hate the police, we should take those areas and annex them to the nearest suburb or make them "unincorporated" and let the Sheriff's Police provide them with police service. Think of all the money we save in Public Housing and police service.
The other option is, we allow Area 1 and Area 2 to secede from Chicago, like the south did, let Jesse Jackson be the mayor and have him hire his own police force or better yet, zoo keepers to try and maintain order. Maybe eventually, they will end up on the endangered species list and have to be sent to a refuge.

Working the ghetto is generally a good time for a young cop. The stress on this job is working in a place like 19th where there is simply nothing to do. The job will soon boil down to petty nonsense and office politics. The most stressful condition you can place on a human being is boredom. You'll learn more, have more fun and less stress in a fast district. There is no downside. Go out and do everything you can. Don't stay anywhere for more than 5 years. Keep moving.
