The Untold Story
Article in the Sun Times Monday about naughty prisoners being shipped out of County:
- Cook County is temporarily farming out troublemaking inmates to the Kankakee and Jefferson county jails.
We could debate the merits of shipping out jagoffs, but we won't. What's interesting is this little gem tucked away in the middle of the article:
- That's because Cook County does not currently need the smaller jails to relieve crowding. The Cook County jail population is averaging 9,200 inmates -- below its capacity of 9,600 inmates.
Most interesting. For the first time in a long time, the County Jail is operating its designed occupancy. So no civil rights lawsuits about overcrowding are in the offing - how many grievance mongers did this put out of business?

That's because the judge will throw out a PCS case and say that there is no probable cause. And then the Officers will have a civil lawsuit with punitive damages on them.
I personally will not lock anybody up when i am the complainant unless it's for battery to P/O.
Screw the one bag drop case...or drinking on the public way.

I was at 26th St about 3 months ago, a retired Det. who now works as a county investigator said the jail was processing between 250 - 300 fewer prisoners a week. Most of the reduction he said was from Chicago. Either crime is down or policing is, I think I know which.
The jail population is even less, the 9,600 number includes home monitoring, day reporting, inmates in hospitals. CPD is the biggest supplier of inmates, your less aggressive policing is working.
The real reason is beacase they hire pussy jail guards now.

Perhaps this is a mixed blessing in disguise. CPD should focus on quality more then quantity.
Peterson should be concerned about increasing the homicide clearance rate. Why allow himself to be distracted by who is supervising his detectives? I can see why former detectives would make great supervisors for the D-unit, indeed. They don't make too many waves and are a better fit to the discrete detective division culture. Many of them are good but a supervisor is a supervisor
Those theories of quality of life arrests are ridiculous. Quality for who? An anonymous caller, a sheep person hiding behind curtains afraid of their own shadow or for the slugs being harassed by questionable police tactics and arrests.

Wouldn't it be a pain for Chicago to ship jail inmates all the way down to Mt. Vernon?

Why bother ship the jagoffs to siberia that would get results for only $1.00 per day they would be housed and fed shit start the airlift now! Bet the rate of them coming back to prison would be slim/none!
How about with the new federal gun ban reversal we give all the inmates guns out in the court yard and watch the fun, then we give another huge contract to daleys pals to bring in a bulldozer and scoop all the shit away, can you say "big cost savings?"
About two months ago a CCDOC officer told me the jail was only 300 over capacity.And now 400 under.Apparently we are doing something right.Keep up the good work officers.
I work for DOC and the reason they usually ship the scumbags to other counties is for thier protection. They are usually idiots that attacked Officers. Since it is a kinder gentler jail, they ship them off in fear of reprisals from staff.
The other reason is to keep staff from the other jails from being laid off due to lack of customers.
