Hilarious Hijinks
- The 79th annual Bud Billiken Parade ended in surprise after the event, when police responded to a barrage of calls from attendees who found their cars missing.
Motorists, residents and store owners in the area say a tow company waited until lots near the parade route were full of cars before posting towing notices and taking vehicles. Each owner had to shell out at least $170 to Rendered Services Inc. to retrieve their cars.
Police on the scene said they'd heard many radio calls about towing from vacant lots in the area, and most involved Rendered. Police said at one point they had to stop trucks from yanking the cars because the signage was erected after the 10 a.m. start of the parade.
After Lincoln Towing, Rendered Services is one of the crookedest towing outfits around. While we don't doubt that they were probably putting up the signs late, their contention that they were merely replacing the signs taken down by fine citizens has a ring of truth to it - if only they weren't such assholes to begin with.

I mentioned this nonsense a month or so ago. Last day of perch fishing in June, I was perch fishing at Montrose harbor that saturday morning. After I parked, they put signs up on the street for a race. I ran and got my car right before they towed it. Towed a bunch of cars from: 77 year old guy who was fishing next to me, working stiffs who took their kids down to fish,etc.- Years ago a Police Officer would have driven around with lights on and a loudspeaker to move the cars- now it is all about the $$$$

OT but I recently noticed that the city posted NO PARKING "street cleaning" signs on the East side of my street in Beverly (posted there at 7p). The following morning I woke up early for court and the signs were all switched to the West side of the street. When I returned from court, quite a few neighbors had tickets. After a few phone calls I learned the Ward Boss or whomever is in charge of posting the signs stated they were posted correctly. I had to wonder, is there truth to the idea that the city is targeting city works for revenue generating fines. That would explain why the meter maids are on my street twice a week, when everyone already has a side driveway. I just love this city.

Rendered will take any vehicle and claim that it was parked on the lot. Another scum tow truck service is chromy's.
How much money did this "parade"cost the taxpayers of chicago. Every other parade must be paid for with private funds.

Rendered had tow trucks lines up around 0600. There were no signs posted at all until the lot started to fill. At 10 they started towing. My wife was on a float and can verify this because thier van almost was towed but a squad saved the day.

Phillips Towing (Division/Halsted) did that to me and a couple friends about 8 years ago near North/Sheffield near the Weed Street bars in 018th district. They put the signs up around 11pm and towed probably 50 cars. Same scam as this. At that location, I know they didn't previously have signs because I parked there for two years before getting towed! I'm sure they always say the signs were taken down.
As the owner of a vacant lot. I have permanent signs posted on the building next to the lot. It is partially fenced (MCC states that all vacant lots must be fenced EXCEPT those owned by the City of Chicago), but the savages keep tearing it apart to park their whoopties in there.
SOOOO- I have Rendered Services contracted to tow any, and all vehicles at anytime, and at will. That being said I recieve a chek in the mail monthly for serval hundres bucks. Thats covers the loan and property taxes. NOT BAD!!!!
The simple answer to the towing question to the parade watchers would be "Do you own the land on which the vehicle was parked?" If no...sucks to be you your gonna have to pay the tow company. Simple as that.

What I don't understand is that other events in the city have to pay for at least some part of their own security (meaning us) by cancelled days off. Why were no days off cancelled for this big waist of a saturday.

The meter maids, aka department of revenue 'agents' are targeting every neighborhood where the residents are known to primarily be citizens, have jobs, and, thus, the ability to pay, and are most likely to pay.
Resident Permit Parking violation is one of their favorites.
Also, the described tricks of late in the previous day posting of street cleaning signs, switching sides of the street and only a few signs posted are being used.
And, of course, the ever popular lack of a current city sticker being displayed, regardless of whether or not the vehicle ticketed is owned and registered by a city resident. These fuckers are even ticketing vehicles with out of state plates for this.
Not to mention the 'expired' meter tickets written on vehicles parked next to a meter that has yet to expire.
While many 'meter maids' are, in their own, limited way, honest enough to write only those vehicles truly in violation, many are not.
Those that are not honest, of course, are the ones hired specifically because they are not honest.
Like the dishonest tow companies mentioned here, the city department of revenue actively encourages their employees to exploit every opportunity to bend the truth, break the truth and stomp the truth into whatever it takes to 'justify' the citation.
The city's loyal minions working hard for the city's masturbating masters.
Gotta keep that bottomless pot 'o gold filled to the brim........
Eddie Welch knows he has some incompetent fucks in his division who want to blame him for their own long standing half assed efforts at solving part 1 crimes.
What's truly unfortunate is that there is no streamlined disciplinary action taken to reduce the numbers of dogasses in the D2a division there and bounce the non-productive folks back into blue shirts and marked cars in less than 6 weeks when it is documented that some of these dets. are giving consistent slipshod performance; my best guess is that probably half of 3rd watch would have to leave, and about one third of 1st watch, maybe about 5 sgts. from Area 2 as well. Lots of people to choose from in the tact/gang and even FTo ranks of patrol to replace them with.
All in all, it wasn't the worst event I've ever been detailed to.
Saw far worse at the 3rd...bosses were out there in force as well,
nothing got out of hand or unmanageable.

Don't know how many were left at the end, but both shifts handled fewer than fifty kids, TOTAL. Only half a dozen up to 1430hrs.
i know its hard to admit for some but the bud parade was actually well run this year with a lot less bs than years past. the department is very f*cked up with lack of manpower and no contract but the parade did go well.

Rendered Services is actually owned by a politically conected former PO. They have lawyers on staff who sue anytime any of there people are arrested. The cases are settled for big bucks.
