This is getting ugly:
- A 16-year-old boy who was shot near a Far South Side Morgan Park neighborhood park died Sunday night.
- A 13-year-old girl who was shot early Sunday while standing with her mother and cousins outside her great-aunt's home on the West Side has died.
- A 10-year-old girl was fatally shot after being reportedly caught in gang crossfire Monday night [about 0525 PM] in the 8700 block of South Exchange Avenue in the South Chicago neighborhood
The first fatality reportedly has gang ties, the second happened at 0200 AM. But a 10-year-old in broad daylight? We're going to go out on a limb and say this is directly attributable to the manpower shortages experienced daily here.

The mayor doesn't care who dies because of the police department being undermanned, he only cares about what furthers his own financial agendas.
Can only hope for national news coverage, and a lot of it, soon.

OT, the Mike Ceriale Foundation still active...
If you plan on watching the Bears game Sunday night, do it at a place that is helping raise money for the Officer Michael A. Ceriale Memorial Foundation. The money raised will be earmarked to fund the rehab of baseball fields at Smith Park at Grand and Campbell and have them renamed in Mike's honor (013 where Mike was first assigned and grew up).
Details were in Fred Mitchell's column in today's Chicago Tribune:
Former Bears defensive tackle Steve McMichael will serve as a celebrity host/bartender Sunday at Cat's Meow, 2700 West Chicago Avenue. The evening will benefit the Officer Michael A. Ceriale Memorial Foundation, which has raised more than $50,000 in memory of Ceriale, a Chicago police officer who was killed in the line of duty 10 years ago. A scholarship at Gordon Tech High School, Ceriale's alma mater, has been endowed in his honor. The foundation's next goal is to rebuild the baseball fields at Smith Park.
The Foundation has actually raised about $80,000 and also funded the "Courage" node at the Police Memorial Park.
Note that there's no cover charge. Funds will be raised through tips to the celebrity bartenders and the auction.
Chalkie's like the wind...he's everywhere. If he could only instill even a small percentage of his work ethic into the minority groups he prefers to target, imagine the potential epiphanies realized. Untold amounts of taxpayer's money that could be saved, effectively eliminating any kind of possible layoffs, unpaid furlough days, etc. Not to mention the renewal of long over-due parental values and responsiblities. Nah, ain't ever gonna happen. Funny thing is, I kinda like it just the way it is. As you were, Chalkie.

Well maybe he is thinking of expanding the history museum, all the kids in caskets in the Chicago ghetto history section.
There was a tremendous number of shootings over the weekend. Two model citizens and their entourage bloodied up the apparatus floor at the firehouse at 59th and Lafayette. The ambulances were running ragged with non-fatal and non-reported by the media shootings.
Chalkie never sleeps.

The museum needs to be moved to make way for the casino at Navy Pier. Think about it....

But what I have never seen is a request or a plan by anyone that would tell us citizens exactly what you would like us to do to help. My area (20 & 23) has become a shooting gallery in the middle of the afternoon. What can we do to help you help us? Please get specific because we are angry and we will take it straight to the Mayor's office.

As an officer working in 004, the fatality of the 10 year old was very sad (87/Exchange). We are soooo under-manned its sickening. We are in a back log all day and all night. There is just not enough of us. I can remember when you had to wait for a spot to open to get on a rapid car on 3rd W. The skys the limit now! The mayor better wake up soon.

Over the past year or so there has been a program called, "Gangland." It documents the rise of various gang factions here in Chicago. As I watched the exposes on the Latin Kings, Vice Lords, Gangster Diciples and El Ruhkns, I was amazed to see how these gangs were able to grow into the formidable powers that they have become.
Now I see these young innocent kids ( not to be confused with young gangster to be thugs, who lived by the sword and now die by it)are still being killed by these gangs, and nothing has really changed over the years, the gangs are still acting with impunity and the mayor and the supt., are realy doing much about it.
ok..that's it...we mean business..we intend to stop the killing now!

I'm a little confused, according to the family members of shitheads(play family and otherwise)none of the shitheads ever had or would ever have guns. How are all these people getting shot if no one has a gun? We need to build a trench around the west and south sides where the shitheads live and fill the trench with job applications so it would be impossible for them to get across.

Tell the Mayor to eliminate all the 'for show' units, all the desk dolly positions, all the 'hide the useless daughter-in-law who was never the police but likes the good paycheck' spots, the inspectors, the made-up spots that never existed before 2008 but now belong to Jody's fed-friends...
Tell the mayor to put every single one of the maybe ten thousand police we REALLY have back in squad cars and FLOOD the streets with unshackled police. And give us a fair raise and hire two thousand MORE police, too.
Let us do what we (MOST of us, anyway) signed on to do and give us the tools and enough bodies to actually DO it.

Units are the only people still working on these mean streets. I call for more units. They are the "real police". All hail the mighty ELITE units! Beat cars only respond to jobs, we need guys out there hammering these big bad gangbangers.
Units rock, I love units, I can't wait till I get promoted to one! I expect it to be on one soon, after all I deserve it. Just check my felony parkers and mountains of movers. This beat car stuff is so boring, I didn't come on this job to write reports, go to these CAPS meetings, and work a full 8.
Plus all the "secret advanced tactical skills" I have stored in my head....They are wasting away here in this beat car...these guys on the watch are slowing me down and they usually work a full 8! Who works a full 8 in a unit?

I did see Weis on t.v. last night (Channel 5 News) outside the 10-year girl's house with the mother and some Commanders... He even put his hand on her shoulder to comfort the mother.
And he wasn't wearing a uniform, but a suit.

We're undermanned, underpaid, outgunned, and outwitted by the criminals who know they can cry "IPRA" or Federal suit, and there's nobody to back us.
No time off to spend with family while Daley and the yupps enjoy their holidays.
Open your eyes. Nothing will change until we get more manpower, enough equipment and a decent contract and raise.

all the real tough cops i have come to know over my almost 20 years of law enforcement in chicago have had enough. all of the semi tough cops have also had enough. a policeman at heart is an individual who understands that the profession which he has signed onto is a calling and he is a lone wolf who must manage the demons of this job with some sort of rationalization of normality. sometimes the wolf needs a helper to get him through the bad times. when the helper goes away the wolf will cease to exist for fear of extinction. so the wolf is always there but will not pounce for fear of extinction as he knows that his helper is gone.
