Mette Trip Thursday
- A hearing is scheduled on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at 10:30 am at the Iowa Court of Appeals. Lodge #7 is making arrangements for bus transportation for those members that would like to support Mike in his time of need.
Members who wish to attend should contact the Rich Aguilar at the Lodge ASAP at 312-733-7776 or by email. Please submit your request to attend no later than Tuesday, September 9, 2008.
The bus is scheduled to leave FOP at 0330 hrs on September 11th. The one-way mileage is 330 miles and should take approximately 6 hours. Members are requested to wear casual business attire.
Deadline Tuesday. J-Fed called the window seat.

You can carry in all 50 states. Just make sure you have your credentials and are NOT under the influence of alcohol. Federal law forbids the consumption of alcohol while carrying out of state.

Great News, Guys and Gals!! I checked in with the FOP late today and only about a dozen officers have signed up for the bus trip. Wow, what an impression we'll make. Those cornholers will be shaking in their boots when they see our 1/4 full bus. We suck.

It's great that the union is providing the bus and organizing all this for Mike. I wish him the best. But I can't help wondering if they'd do the same for me or any other copper in a similar situation? In cases of off duty incidents they usually wipe their hands clean and steer clear, weather the P.O. was justified or not.
I heard Gerry Callahan and Anthony Abatte are going, but P.O. Starbucks and the Sgt. Who Bangs Crackhoes are not...guess the latter two got their time due denied.

I have supported Officer Mette. I sadly cannot make the trip to Iowa. I have my own family to take care of. I will continue to contribute to his fund though. I pray for him and his family everyday. I also HAMMER all Iowa plates and drivers. Remember, they only have so many days to change that D/L after they move to Chicago.
This is another PO who really wants to go but between working and kids I can't get away for the whole day. Just want to wish Mike luck and give my best wishes to his family.

No this is a unique incident! j-fed should go also as a strong showing of "support" that would make an impact but then again daley will not allow him to go as usual!
As of 1405 hours on 9 Sep there was less than a bus load of officers committed to going. Much less.
This is per FOP office. What the hell, if even a third of the officers who posted here in support of Officer Mette go there will be a very respectable showing.
Call FOP office 312-733-7776 and commit to going to Iowa in support of this officer, it won't cost you anything except maybe 8 hours CU time. We've all wasted that on bullshit.

Maybe some of those supporters from NYPD will care enough to go to Iowa to show support because his co-workers on the CPD sure don't seem to give a fuck.
They will take one or two minutes out of their schedule to post some crap on the internet in a supposed show of support but when it comes to taking some of their own time and showing up at FOP Hall at 0300 hours for a bus ride to Iowa, well, that seems to be another story.
Barely half a bus full of supporters, that all that have called FOP and signed up for the Iowa trip.
If you really want to show support for Mike Mette call FOP and have them put your name on the bus list and show up at FOP Hall at 0300 for the ride to Iowa and that hearing. That is a show of support, show support with your feet and put your rear end on that bus.

Fantastic. i hadn't even heard about this story until today. I know noone involved, had nothing to do with this, yet, I'm from Iowa originally and had I still IA license plates on my car I would be sought out by this asshole.

I will be going to Iowa. I understand that it's hard for a lot of people to get away because of court, family etc. But the rest of you that aren't going "just because".... think about how Mike will feel when he turns around and sees 20 people there for him rather than the HUNDREDS that should be there. I'm sure while he's sitting back in his CELL, he'll be wondering why everyone left him out to dry.
Part of our oath was to protect each other. Those of you that just don't feel like going because you don't know Mike personally, or don't care or are lazy, are probably the same ones that don't respond when an officer calls for an assist...or the ones that take your time getting to a 10-1.
This shouldn't be about "guilting" anyone into going. We should go because it's the right thing to do and because if, God forbid, something similar happened to us one day, we'd want EVERYONE there to show support.
If you can go, just go. Yes, it's going to take up your whole day. But I'm sure that's a reasonable excuse to Mike as he sits in his CELL counting all of HIS days that have been taken up in that hell.

It's not all that unique. If it happens off duty you're on your own. The FOP will have nothing to do with it. Even though it happened off duty the dept. will make it a job related issue by trying to suspend or fire you thus making it job related. The FOP will refuse to give you legal representation or have anything to do with it, even if you're 100% justified. It's your problem because it happened off duty. I know from personal experience and from seeing others left out in the cold by them. Mike deserves their help, I just don't understand why they're doing this for him and not others.
