SCC,

I am shocked by this news and can hardly hold back my tears. I am praying of course for the Kids, and also for their Father.

Recently, I ran into a Copper that I had not seen in almost a decade, and I am ashamed to say that I barely recognized him in his OCD UC persona.

The thing I enjoyed most during the quick chat was the way he referred to me and the others we worked with as Brother. I guess I am what is now considered to be an "old Timer" and am proud to say that I love the people I work and have worked with because we always looked out for each other.

In our careers and lives hard times befall us all at one time or another. If you need help seek it out within your Brothers and Sisters (In Blue), Family, Church, or through professional services so that furture tradgedies can be avoided.

God Bless US All, Be Safe and Stay Healthy!

It's a sad day. Being a cop is hard on it's own, but when your personal life is in turmoil, it's a recipe for disaster. God Bless the children. Please officer's if you feel overwhelmed with work and home, seek help. It is no shame on you. We all have personal turmoil. There is all kind of help for you. It's free and it's confidential. Take it from a cop who sought help before it became out of control.

This is the time we all know need to come together and pray for this family and keep our sarcastic opinions to ourselves. I personally knew the officer and was a nice, humble guy. I know we all have problemas, domestic, personal, money etc..Lets try to be there for each other. This is a very hard time for all of us. Very sad situation. I would've never thought he would do something like this. We all are disturbed and very sad by this tragic. My prayers are with the family.

What a tragedy that is compounded by an even deeper tragedy!

Rest eternal grant unto them, O Lord. And let light perpetual shine upon them. May they rest in peace and may God comfort the rest of their family.

Those on the scene or co-workers please make sure you have a place to share your emotions and feelings. Do not bottle them up. Call peer support, or your minister, or a dear trusted friend.

There has been a few post's on SCC concerning the EAP.However you feel about it..please if you have nowhere to turn, they are there to help.
Like alot of us we have all had to battle certain demons, and I like many have found help and comfort in that program, which for years I never knew existed or at least did not want to know either because of pride or being in denial. But what I found after getting help was a better and happier life than I was leading before.
My prayers are with this officer's family and I pray that the surviving child pulls through
God Bless and be safe

This was a great guy and who knows what brought him to this point. God only knows. I pray for his son who may not make it. May his daughter rest in peace. My family (CPD brothers and sisters) let's not try to rationalize what was going through his mind and be quick to judgement. If you need help, get it. Rest in Peace brother...from your classmate. Lord, grant peace and serenity to the family and may Your spirit be with them at this time.

Please, all of you, say a prayer to the many officers on the scene who did everything possible to save those poor children, along with CPD personnel. No effort was spared to save them from what happened. They did their best, and their efforts will never be forgotten. Say what you want about the bosses, those of us who were there will not forget the words of comfort offered by the 1st and Cmdr Roy. Everyone there left with a heavy heart.
Just a sad, sad way to start a week...

Any information/news about a fund being established to help with medical expenses, burial costs, etc?

My prayers go to the children. I also pray for the mother, her life will NEVER be the same.
I am a P.O. in 009 and was on the scene today and would like to
say thanks to the s.w.a.t that responded. They were the ones that delt first hand with the children and acted like true professionals.
I have been on the job for more
then a few yrs. and I dont thiink the stress of the job had anything to do with this situation. There is no reason to murder a child.
I prey again for the mother, she is now a member of the walking dead. There is no doctor or friend that can bring back her kids.

God bless the first officers in the house, I can only imagine how horrific a scene it was, especially if you are a father, the heartache must be overwhelming.

Use EAP, they are a useful resource and are very good at what they do, I have used them for on the job and off the job stuff. I found them very helpful.

My prayers were ascending as a tear hit my cheek.

May the Lord welcome them with open arms. May the Lord use this most unfortunate incident to motivate those of us who struggle and suffer to lean on the biggest family in the City of Chicago - the brothers and sisters of the Chicago Police Department.

Check off in 009 was very solemn today, for the officers and supervisors leaving on the 2nd watch and the officers and supervisors coming on for the 3rd watch. Normally there is a lot of laughter and kidding, but today it was just a lot of sad faces. The one question that I kept hearing was “why the kids?”------ only God knows for sure.

God loves us all, but more so the children because of their innocents. They are in his hands now and no one will ever harm them again. RIP children are prayers are with you, your family, and all the officers involved.

My deepest sympathy to all the family. Grandparents, parents, children, siblings, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, all are suffering a great pain this evening. May God show them peace, strength and mercy. There is a long hard road of grief, healing, recovery and forgiveness ahead.
Let's not forget how bad mental illness can be and how mad it can drive someone. You never see a benefit raising money for research, a bike rally, a telemarketer, 20 k run, attempting to find a cure for mental illness.
No one will ever convince me he was sane for any part of this. I pray God has mercy on him.
Immaculate Heart of Mary pray for us all.

Prayer of St. Michael the Archangel

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in the day of Battle; Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke Him, we humbly pray, and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, cast into Hell, Satan and all the other evil spirits, who prowl through the world, seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

"please lets assist this mother in anyway. Lets show when even one of our own does wrong, we do the honorable thing for the family. Prayer for them like they are your own children"

Truer words were never spoken- if you need help or things are starting to overwhelm you- ask for help! It's the hardest/bravest thing you can do- you have peer support- the EAp program and if you don't want to go to counseling- use your medical benefits! Talk to your partner, talk to your friends.

Questions, Answers? There are none. This is a tragedy in all senses of the word. An officer that needed help. Innocent children gunned down, and a mother that has to live with unspeakable grief. May the Good Lord hold all of them in their hearts.

This is a time for solemn prayer. A time for the thin blue line, to help, and heal the family that remains.

May God guide all involved to a place where there is some resolution.

Thank you SWAT as always for doing a great job. Cops and Heroes always.

Hug your children, love your family and "ask" for help, if needed.

Peace to all.
