What GPS Tracks

According to a few letter writers, it tracks everything:
  • Engine on or off
  • Idling in place
  • Parked
  • Speed
  • Emergency Equipment activation
It's an every 15 second ping system and it's accurate to within a dozen feet or so. Be careful out there.

Unless they;ve changed it from the SOS design, it is a complete sham, its only used for discipline! If they were able to access the location immediately for officer safety then I'm all for it, but they will only use it to track an officer's activity, how long an officer is on a job etc. This may come into play with the new rating system, watch out. How an officer uses his/her time efficiently/effectively.

If they use it in the name of officer safety, then they need to prove that it has that capability.

A big warning for the violent crimes detective.

Some "may" in the last stopped at their home for a few hours of sleep when working 24 or even 48 hours straight on a serious violent crime, especially when an offender is in custody and your trying to beat the new 48 hour rule.

Don't think for a second that your OT slip isn't going to be reviewed by IAD and compared to your assigned vehicle's GPS.

This not a thought that came to me, it was information told straight to me from an Auditing and Internal Control assigned officer.

BE FOREWARNED: Don't be called on the carpet for being on overtime and having the car "Pinged" at your residence. Sleep in the car in the parking lot if you need to refresh for a short bit.

We are now in an era of "no secret is safe" anymore.

The City's budget is hurting and anybody who think that they are rushing to put GPS systems in detective cars purely for your safety, well have another glass of Koolaide.

And I know some cops are going to respond with BS about dicks taking a short nap while working. Let me say ahead of time, until you get stuck working long cases, media intense cases, police shootings or murders....STFU!

As a Detective myself, there are days you come to work with little or no sleep, from one of your children sick to other family emergencies. I rather have a detective take a small nap when "forced" to work long hours on a case then have one smash up a squad and die because they were too sleepy.

A FRIENDLY WARNING TO ALL

1. The GPS system is a database.

2. The PCAD system is a database.

3. Any database can be queried.

It's been mentioned at various times that the CPD doesn't have the man power to check what every car is up to.

They don't NEED man power! All they need is one programmer to write a script with the proper criteria.

Within a matter of minutes, if it takes that long, a properly written script can identify each and ever anomaly for ever car in the city.

I don't know and can't say if the department will implement such an automated process, but it certainly is possible.

Don't let your guard down for one minute!

Engine on or off

Parked
Speed

Emergency Equipment activation

Also SCC it tracks a passenger in the passenger seat via airbag on sensor, when you reverse, it can be set to track everytime a door is opened and closed, it tracks when brakes were applied like during an accident, if turn signals were activated! The most advanced system for the most stone aged dept with junk cars! $1,000 sysytem in a $400 rent-a-wreck car! Are you shitting me? Who will be passing daley and/or the alderthieves the "contract rebates"? In the ever present sealed envelope?

At TRU the old style GPS Trackers are being removed and a different model is being installed. As of now no one seems to know or is willing to tell us what the difference is. Reportedly the new system costs less to monitor and operate, so it may have fewwer bells and whisles.

I just found out from a reputable source that the new GPS has many more abilities than they are letting us know about.

They can record sound too, so your days of speaking freely in the squad (or cruiser if you prefer) with a trusted partner are over.

Some test vehicles are also equipped with sensors on the seats. This lets them know if there are passengers/prisoners in the vehicles. The sensors are used to record the frequency, strength and pungence of your and your partner's flatulence. The recordings will document that you did indeed rip one publicly and the appropriate disciplinary actions will be taken.

Just wanted to give you a heads up. Knowledge is power.

Holy Ping Me Batman!!!

We are all going to have to deal with technology running a muck.

Instead of wasting money on tracking cops perhaps it might be more worth while to track criminals?

Get my DNA? Why? Unless you think I am committing crimes and you want to prosecute me. Or if I am a suspect, can't you get the DNA anyway? You say its for my safety? Why? Should I rape someone? Or maybe to identify my remains after a terrorist attack?

Folks big brother is breathing down our necks. We as police officers are the front line of government and we all share an occupation that will be the first to notice slight shifts toward an Orwellian World Order.

Employers will argue that they pay us to work and so our thoughts should be focused on our jobs. They will use the excuse that we must interact with others to share our thoughts in a collective network for the purposes of problem solving and information sharing. They will hook us up to a computer and we will have to share our personal thoughts with a computer. A computer recording everything your thinking and know.

In our life times, this will happen.

Our technology as helpful to mankind as it has been will be perverted and misused for ultimate power and that is to control human thought- its too tempting not to be abused. If not in America first, it will happen somewhere in the world.

Your children's FREEDOM of mind and spirit is soon to end. Their personal thoughts will no longer be theirs but shared with a computer recording and monitoring every thought. You will first see this technology emerging to help the mentally ill and criminally insane. It will seem like a good idea until they discover a way to us the technology on normal people to communicate better and faster, the shift will move to everyday use on normal free thinking people and as the technique improves our guard will be down not suspecting that we are slowing surrendering our personal freedom to this new world order.

Human behaviors will have to be controlled, illegal thoughts and behaviors will be punished in order to conform with society. Thought police will be used to monitor thoughts and the establishment of the order to began human control.

The government or power in control will say that this is necessary for your safety and security. The terrorists and criminals are out there to do us harm. The Austrian paperhanger Adolf Hitler used fear to control and gain power, he used his power over an entire country for the purpose of ruling the world. The next Hitler will take control of the world using a super computer using key strokes.

God help us all.

As far as the accuracy of GPS. I have a $800 system in my boat which I use for navigation purposes. The device displays the accuracy of the present signlas in feet. I have obtained accuracy to within five feet, but keep in mind this is in open water with unubstructed views of the sky.

There is less accuracy in on land conditions do to buildings trees ect.

What the powers that be haven't told you though is that the GPS can only track the car if assigned to a Unit. In other words, if you sign on a PDT and put the unit in the proper space when signing in, the GPS can now track that unit. If you don't have a PDT, which many of us don't, they can't activate the GPS.

GPS... do any of us really care?

My point is this. The vast majority of us do our jobs. Go ahead, track me. It's their car, I'm on their time abidable to their rules. Track me.

But, mind you J-Fed THIS is what you'll be tracking across the City. Travelling at posted limits to respond to ALL calls for service. And when BabyDaddy is whompin' on Shenaynay on the street & every POS on the street is calling it in, I will be responding in the same manner. And when I arrive and she is nothing more than a bloody mass on the ground you can pull my 'pings' and I will justify my actions in that I responded in a timely manner with my emergency equipment activated, following the G.O.'s and Rules of the Road. I've done nothing wrong. Watch your crime rate soar even higher than before.

Traffic stops? HA!! It's a rarity for most anymore, watch it come to a screeching halt.

Someone called bullshit on the one posters' comment (then it's own thread) about J-Fed on a rampage about us. I wonder exactly how off-target it really was. The creepy (and pudgy) lil man has got to be about ready to pop a blood vessel when he sees no matter what he tries to do to us we still win.

Keep fuckin' with us J-Fed. You've been poking at the lion thru the cage bars - SCC & SLC have unlocked the door... We're coming for you lil man... can you feel it? How many nights do you wake in a cold sweat, awakened by the nightmare you have created.

The City and 35th Street all think us mindless fools. Slowly, they are seeing the truth - don't fuck with the police, we are experts in that field and will continue to find ways to make your life a living fucking hell.

Bring on your GPS. We have no cars. We have no reliable computers. We have radios that don't make it through a tour of duty. You may think we are a bunch of morons - but you really need to take another look. We are electricians, computer geeks, military, leaders, thinkers and doers. You can't beat us Fed Boy. We are smarter than you & know how to get things done. You are a temporary boil on our asses. We were here before you & despite your best efforts - we will be here AFTER you.

We know how to use the 'system' set in place to work to our advantage. THAT is something you never expected.

You wanna GPS us? Knock yourself out. Watch the crimes rates hit never before highs. Whatcha gonna tell Dicky when he reams you a new asshole?

Do yourself a favor. Stop looking for ways to enrage your officers. Stop looking for ways to fuck with officers who want nothing more than go to work and be the 'police' again. Take the cuffs off your department. Show some faith in us. And we will show you what it really means to be CPD.
