- [Channel 2 Jay Levine] No one in Chicago could believe the original ruling by a rookie Iowa court judge, who sentenced the four-year Chicago cop to five years in prison. Mette's supporters included everyone from Mayor Richard M. Daley to Sen. Barack Obama to State's Attorney Devine to Police Supt Jody Weis.
Devine and Weis had to be shamed into writing letters. Daley wrote a letter that was conveniently kept under wraps for over a month just in case the Mette appeal went south. Obama, if we aren't mistaken, was approached by numerous family and fundraiser entities and refused to even write a letter.
We're glad Devine and Weis were susceptible to pressure. Daley has been an opportunist since birth. Levine claiming support from Obama is just plain crass, wrong, and diminishes the work of the Mette family and John Kass.
The Mette Defense Fund is promising a list of supporters to be released shortly. How about a list that would have "Dates of Support" in the margin so we could all spot the bandwagon jumpers?

Only my opinion. SCC, publishing the supporters from Mike's defense fund is good and dandy. However, there are hundreds of people who did not donate money, but helped Mike behind the scenes. If all these people who helped do not see their names, it would be an insult.

Can't you just be happy letters were written. I think it takes time to sort through facts and sign your name to a correspondence of this nature and timing can mean everything in a lengthly litigation sometimes.

I work in Narcotics and have seized on numerous occassions,large sums of currency
and these idiots end up giving it back to the shitheads.
Not only myself but countless numbers of times several officers have made large seizures and they always end up giving it back.
Even J.O. the Commander of Narcotics had a problem with these guys (particularly Paul) years ago where they went to blows and had to be split up.
They claim that if we can't prove that the money came from illicit means then we can't take it.
You pull over a car and find a trap with three hundred thousand dollars in cash in it are you going to send them on their way because there's no drugs or other contraband. No, we confiscate it and inventory it. What do these two geniuses do they give it back!
Why not file for the money and let the shit heads prove that the money is from legitimate means. Why should the burden be on us to prove that it is form illegal means.
Over and over throughout the years these dumb assess have given literally millions of dollars back to people who aren't even contesting the seizure. Most of these people are just hoping not to get locked up.
These ASA's are fucking useless and I hope that with the new administration coming in November they get weeded out and sent to juvy/traffic court where they can't do much harm.

Well, they strike again and this time it involves the search warrant that our brother Nate Taylor was murdered over.
Our Narcotics and Asset Forfeiture Unit worked very hard to draw up seizure warrants on the shit head's safety deposit box that he had and Paul and Tony once again refused to approve it. Having enough probable cause that he was in the dope business and money laundering these assholes still refused to approve the warrant becaused evidently it did not meet their threshold of what they would like to see in the case.
Furious at the situation CPD Bosses got involved and went over not only his head but Walt Hehner'a (their boss) head and got it approved.
Over a quarter of a million dollars ($250,000.00) in cash was recovered from the box.
GOOD JOB TO THE PERSISTENT CPD MEMBERS, CPD BOSSES AND WHAT EVER STATES ATTORNEY SUPERVISOR THAT OVERRULED PAUL/TONY'S DECISION AND THAT DOES NOT HAVE HIS HEAD UP HIS ASS!
We truly thank you for assisting us in this matter that is so dear to our hearts.
Whom ever wins the election in November, PLEASE, PLEASE get rid of these two political hacks who have cost not only our municipality and County millions of dollars but every Cook CounTy Agency that has to deal with these two weasels.

What a joke this guy is. He is as responsible for the economic problems as any other member of Congress, and maybe more. It all started for him when he was a lawyer litigating for ACORN, threatening banks if they did not provide unsecured mortgages to minorities. He then took more money in 3 YEARS in the Senate from Fannie Mae than any other Senator has in their entire tenure, with the exception of Chris Dodd - another Democrat. (He took more money than John Kerry, who has been in the Senate over 20 years!) Telling people that the bailout is what will help them is laughable. Maybe better economic insight and the ability to not be swayed by race from the guy who wants to be our President will help more

According to court records, in October of 2005, Mette and his brother visited a house party thrown by college students in Dubuque, Iowa. Upon leaving the party, one of the party’s organizers, Jake Gotthard, began harassing Mette for not paying an entry fee. After claiming to be hit by Mr. Gotthard several times, Mette struck back with a powerful punch. When police officers arrived at the scene, they found Gotthard on the ground with bruises and lacerations on his face and Mette with bruised knuckles and a blood-stained shirt.
Mette claimed self-defense during the trial but Dubuque County Judge Monica Ackley found him guilty of assault with serious bodily harm. He has been sentenced to serve five years in prison.
Our law enforcement plays an important role in keeping our communities safe, and most of our men and women serve their communities with great care and pride. Any potential mishandling of justice in this case should be taken seriously. I agree that Mr. Mette should be afforded all legally-required due process rights in appealing his conviction if he feels that Judge Ackley incorrectly applied the law in the case. When you're counting people that supported Mike, don't forgot all the Michigan troopers, sheriffs,conservation officers, fire fighters, police officers, etc that sat around station tables writing letters to governors, congress, and all suggested by SCC. Captain McCory was one of the only remaining "real" captains left on this job. He has more knowledge and class than most of the current exempts. He rewarded workers and had no use for dogs. It's apparent which category this poster fits into. Referring to him as senile is laughable, thanks for that.

To all you folks who say Mike should sue for wrongful imprisonment: He has no cause of action unless there is gross prosecutorial misconduct. That conduct must be proved.

What a joke this guy is. He is as responsible for the economic problems as any other member of Congress, and maybe more. It all started for him when he was a lawyer litigating for ACORN, threatening banks if they did not provide unsecured mortgages to minorities. He then took more money in 3 YEARS in the Senate from Fannie Mae than any other Senator has in their entire tenure, with the exception of Chris Dodd - another Democrat. (He took more money than John Kerry, who has been in the Senate over 20 years!) Telling people that the bailout is what will help them is laughable. Maybe better economic insight and the ability to not be swayed by race from the guy who wants to be our President will help more
