Mette Event

We were debating the wisdom of publishing anything about a celebration, but since the info is out there, we'll just sound a note of caution:
  • The event runs from noon until five pm (Bears game at noon - has anyone rented a big screen TV or three?) There are going to be media covering this event. We'd imagine that a number of Mike's supporters from the media might drop by and maybe a few persons who figure the fastest way to get a headline or byline is to highlight a copper or two acting dumb. Please, for the love of Mike, know when to say when, be responsible and don't do anything that could possibly rain on Mike's parade.
Mike and his family deserve the best possible showing by his CPD brethren.

I wish I could be there to show my support and happiness at the delayed justice. It's a long way from L.A.

I have concerns for the Mette family and their privacy. I hope officer Mike Mette can quietly continue on in his career after such a life changing event.

Might not be to well thought out. The marathon is sunday and it runs down Ashland. Is there going to be a problem with parking and traffic?

Don't give the media any fuel to make the dept or Mike look bad. They thrive on anything that goes wrong in the CPD (sadly, just like the PPD) and it's not just one person who suffers, it's the whole dept.

They don't want a feel good story because that doesn't sell papers or boost ratings. Nothing matters more to them than a juicy, dirty story, and the only story the media needs to tell is about Mike Mette and the terrible injustice he he was dealt but one he never deserved.

This is Mike's day. Celebrate his freedom and enjoy, but as SCC has already said, please be responsible.

Have fun at party, and you all be safe out there.

To Mike: Welcome back. May God watch over you on your return to duty.

To SCC: The entity that kept the drive alive and focused and never lets the media forget about the injustices to police officers.

To John Kass: An Honorary State Policemen if I was ever allowed to present the award. Thanks for reporting the truth.

To The Blue Tornado: Thanks for always having our back.

OK boys and girls, let's not fuck up! Get a ride or a cab, no fights, no bullshit, don't mouth off to the media, etc. This advice goes for you too, Mike - if you want to really tie one on (I know I would), do it at your house or your buddy's house, keep it private. Keep it cool at this party. Right now your a "good guy", don't blow it!
This event will be closely monitored, count on it.

I'll be there after the marathon detail. Hopefully before 1700 hours because it's supposed to be upper 70's and humid. It might get ugly again.

I hope the Mette family and friends understand that a lot of coppers will be working at the marathon and we will be there when we are released. God bless.

Congrads Mike. Welcome Home!!! Now after the party, go get your job back with back pay and file a big ole lawsuit on a certain couple Iowa employees. Send a msg, low and clear.

All that money from skyway deal and now the midway airport deal and still no contract and when we do get one 1-3 late as always, it will be for table scraps. Mayor Daley, you sir are an asshole. Public safety always dead last on your agenda.

10/09/2008 02:24:00 AM

Don't worry. Only about 20 people are expected. And hey, didn't alcohol help get Mike into this mess? Try something really brave and unexpected. Invite the media to the party and make it 100% dry. That would get some positive P.R. that we sorely need. FLOP planning during a marathon is stupid as usual.

How about the FOP hall. Our dues pay for the building and the FOP I am sure would be more than happy to host such an event. They have the projectors to display the game.

The FOP hall would be good place, we can call it a "meeting" in regards to our contract negotiation. It would be the best time to get alot of our members together for a common good and celebrat the release of Mette and possibly discuss contractual desires with more of our members.

O.T.
I just got back from the Chicago Police Memorial at Soldier Field.
Near the fountain honoring our fallen officers they have set up a large stage for the Chicago Country Music Festival this weekend.

I am sorry, but I thought this area was intended as a tribute to our Officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

Can you imagine if the Taylor Family or the Francis Family chose this weekend to visit the Memorial and they ended up having to crawl around a bunch of drunks puking and pissing on our Memorial.

Thanks to the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation for ensuring that they pay themselves large salaries while failing to protect the dignity of the Memorial.

That is all.

Michael wrote me many letters from prison. What shocked me was reading his words. At times, you coudl pick up the frustration, but never anger. It was always hope, faith, and strength. The ironic thing being it reminded me of what our stars in this city are all about...

I shall hope that if one of you can spend almost a year in prison & all that he went through that surely all of you can set things aside to come together to show the strength of many more stars.

FYI - The El does not run anywhere near the FOP. You've probably never been there. AND, for all the money it blows, the FOP does not even have one decent TV.

Give da kid a Hamm's and all will be right wit da world !!! But all kidding a side it is a wonderful thing to have this young lad back in our midst ... It's a shame that he to endure this type of injustice ... we are the cities punching bags my brother's and sister's in blue ... this is not the first person to be wrongly accused and rest assured he won't be the last ... Our Vision of what America was, is, and will be is about to come to a crashing halt with the next President ... no matter who get's elected ... Our Mayor did not find the time to postpone his vacation to attend Nate Taylor's Funeral ... can't keep the Pritzker's waiting after all it was just a policeman who died in the line of duty .. That's all ... The solution to our crime problem and how to fix it is so simple that it is as plain as the nose on our faces ... but no one has the courage to address the problem ... so let's invent a few more units to make it look like we are addressing the problem ... well enough of the soapbox... Welcome back Mike Mette ... God Bless you and your family ... Semper Fidelis ...

The Green Line and the Pink Line trains run to Lake and Ashland. It's a two block walk to the FOP Hall from there.

It's a nice little sober-up walk and you can even pee on the stairs like everyone else.

Yeah, welcoming the guy home was supposed to be a GOOD thing. So what if civilians wanted to go. Oh yeah, I forgot, we don't need civilian support.. they all love us enough as it is. The guy got fucked by IOWA...not by Chicago. Nobody is looking to screw him or his soon to be reinstated career. Welcome home Mike! You were missed and not a day went by when most of us didn't think about ya or say a prayer for your safe and rapid return! Now we should say a few prayers of thanks that you're back and going to be going back to work! SCC- not to be too down on ya, but probably should have let out a few more details. This poor guy needed a better welcome home.
