Mayor Daley proposed Wednesday a $12 million subsidy for a new hotel on the block. The proposal, introduced to the City Council, calls for a 354-room Loews hotel.
The $12 million joins $42.4 million the city already has committed to Block 37 from its Central Loop tax-increment financing district.
$12 million plus $42.4 million in subsidies. And we're working on our seventeenth month without a contract. We're just saying.

Raises? How about pay cuts? Or a pay rate by how much work you do. With so many dogs on the job how can you argue for more money? The city should start requiring a yearly fee on duty weapons too. Make registration a yearly requirement.

Racism is alive and well in America. A man was just elected to the highest office in the land due to the color of his skin. If our President elect was a white man he would not have been considered electable. His woeful lack of experience and checkered past would have immediately disqualified him from further consideration and rightfully so. Honestly would any person, white or black, have voted for someone who stonewalled any investigation of his background? If a Republican outspent his opponent in the same fashion would he not be accused of “buying the election? Would the press have made a darling of any other candidate if they had the associations of BHO? Would any other candidate have been trusted to hold the nation’s check book after advocating the practices that created them mortgage crisis? Would the media have let a white man (democrat or republican) violate the law by accepting donations from overseas? If you have any doubt that the true nature of this man is bitter, angry and hateful towards (white) America, I suggest you read it in his own words in his book “Dreams of my father”. The average liberal voted for this man on the prima fascia evidence made available by his handlers and the media in a complete persona created to generate votes. The true BHO is a far cry from the warm fuzzy guy sold to you via David Axelrod and 700 million in advertising.
The problem however is not the color of the candidate but his character. No one doubts the Barack is an educated and intelligent man. That does not negate that his true nature has been carefully concealed by design. Everyone who sees his election as a culmination of Dr. King’s dream is ignorant of MLK’s most famous words that state in essence “do not judge a man by the color of his skin, but by the content of his character”. Obama was elected precisely because the color of his skin. I understand how voting for him would be irresistible to most African Americans. They must feel that this is their best chance at getting a foot in the door. . It’s just a shame that the first black man that was seriously considered for President was such a poor choice.
The above statements aren’t really sour grapes, although I could never have brought myself to vote for Obama, I am happy he was elected. As his mentor Rev.Wright would say, “America’s chickens have come home to roost.” Obama was smart enough to realize that the majority of people will believe anything as long as you tell them with a straight face and a pleasant speaking voice. He is already beginning the process of lowering the expectations of all of those he lied to with his lofty rhetoric. How dirty the American public will feel when they realize that the messiah was just bullshitting them so he could get in their pants. The true silver lining in all of this mess…. BHO presidency will be the true catalyst to get a Reagan conservative (not a moron Neocon like Bush) back in the white house. The election of John McCain, although he is a much more honorable man would have just prolonged America’s agony. I just hope the Constitution can survive the reign of Comrade Obama and his massive ego.
By the way doesn’t anyone find his messianic complex creepy? I can’t remember any politician who ever took the stage at a victory rally that was not surrounded by his or her family and key campaign aides. Alas, it is all about him and only him (not you sheep) and any distraction might break the zombie like trance and reveal that the Emperor is naked.

I am sure that if there is a garbage collector strike, somewhere in city hall is a plan to sell off the city trucks to Waste Management for next to nothing, paint them and have them pick up the city trash, for a hefty fee(tax) on the homeowners.

Has anyone heard the bullshit the city pulled the day after the election?
My R.D.O. was canceled for Tuesday 04 Nov and my hours were a 12 hour shift from 1800-0600. At roll call Tuesday night the W/C read from the C.O. book and stated that anyone in D.O.G. 6 or 7 on the second watch were required to call the W/C between 0500 and 0530 Weds morning to see if they were required to work. I worked til 0230 and got to bed around 0300. I set my alarm and called my district at 0530 just as the order had said. The desk officer said we weren't going to be utilized.
My next work day I filled out a time due slip for the required call back and was told by the timekeeper that the city won't pay for that and that a grievance needs to be filed. A grievance was filed but this is a crock of shit. That order was clearly a required call back and we should be compensated as such. The fact that the city is making us file a grievance to get what is provided to us under the contract is ridiculous.
Has anyone else gotten the runaround ?
